Introduction
• One of the most famous and easiest activities that
people resort to enjoy, whether to spend time with
friends or even to rest after a long day, is watching
movies and in our current time we can watch
millions of movies and series from all over the
world through applications that we can download
on our smart devices. One of the most popular
applications that provide this service is Netflix,
which is an American company founded by Red
Hastings and Mark Randolph in 1997, Netflix
produces many films and series in addition to
making it accessible to all people (Allen, et al,
2014). This article will give a background about this
company and the reasons that led it to become
one of the most popular applications in the world.
Body of report
• Netflix is one of many companies that provide
people with access to a large number of movies
and series through their application or website,
which depend on the monthly subscription
service that can be canceled at any time. In its
inception, it was a company to rent movies
through their own site, but in the late 1990s it
provided a monthly service that enables its
customers to rent an unlimited number of DVDs
(Allen, et al, 2014). In 2010, Netflix began
providing its services to display movies and series
on smart devices, which led to the increase in the
number of its subscribers from 12 million to
about 33 million subscribers(ibid). Canada was
the first country to which Netflix services
reached after America, despite this expansion
increasing pressure on Netflix, as it needed
changes in the content of its language, such as
translating series and movies, but it did not stop
and expanded to many countries by 2011(ibid).
Body of report
• Today, Netflix is the largest company of its kind in terms of
the number of subscribers, with nearly a quarter of a
million subscribers by 2020(Stoll, 2021). Despite the large
number of companies competing with Netflix since its
inception, Netflix has continued to progress, increasing the
number of its subscribers significantly year after year (Oat,
2013). Perhaps this is a result of its distinctive services, for
example, Netflix allows family or friends to share one
account, and everyone has his own page that can add
programs without the need to add them to all
individuals(ibid). In addition to the ability to download and
watch programs without the need for a network.
Moreover, it is not limited to a specific age or a specific
type of programs, it provides programs suitable for all
ages, such as educational and documentary films in
addition to entertainment programs as series and others,
providing a translation service to provide a better
experience for international subscribers(ibid). There are
many other features, all with a monthly subscription at an
affordable price.
Conclusion
• This article provides background about
Netflix and its services that have led to the
continued success of this company for
more than 20 years. Now Netflix enjoys a
large number of subscribers who benefit
from the services provided to them in a
simple and clear way from anywhere and in
any language (Oat, 2013). Many people
around the world are now able to watch
various kinds of entertainment and
educational programs by subscribing to this
site and making use of it on a monthly
basis.
