- #13 This drives a dichotomy in BI End users need to be able to analyse their information, their info is very different from others in the organisation, they will want to ask different questions, answer their own questions and draw their own conclusions However in general businesses want people to be on the same page How many people have come to meetings with different numbers , spend 20 mins arguing which is the right number instead of arguing about how to grow that number. “my spreadsheet is right” If everybody who has the same answers, the conversation goes much quicker, that has real value The problem – legacy BI is built around consistency. They are big and slow to develop but you get consistent metadata and you get consistent information. If no cache available, Birst will send query string to HANA– the query will be executed on Amazon or SAP cloud or appliance – and the result set will be sent back to Birst– where Birst will return result set to original requestor (API or front end report)

- #21 Kelloggs: massive organization with employees across globe. They are best known for Cereal, also do many other consumer products. With employees across multiple functions, serving customers across many different countries and cultures, Diversity Inclusion has become a company key tenant. They have found that business units and departments with a diverse set of employees are consistently top performing groups. Because of that, each General Manager / Department leader has an MBO for Diversity Inclusion that ties directly to their compensation. If they do not hit the Diversity Inclusion goals, they don’t get full bonus – and it’s likely the group will not perform at top level. However, with groups that reach into hundred employees easily, that is tough for a GM/VP to manage – they needed to rely on HR to help them hit these goals. To achieve this, Original situation: HR team had to generate 1500+ report on Diversity Inclusion from SAP – once a quarter From start to finish it took 3 people full-time, crunching data, for 3 weeks straight If you were GM – you needed this information, and you needed now to make hiring, promotion, termination, etc.. Within the quarter – the HR team would have to re-run all numbers again for that group – and it might take a week to get results back. GM’s were not getting information in enough time to make hiring, term, promotion decisions Some GMs were missing bonuses, some data was incorrect, and they possibly were incorrect in submitting these reports – which was required as a government contractor VP of HR needs a solution. Business need – Need to analyze Diversity Inclusions statistics across 21,000 employees - not as easy as it sounds – people change positions all the time “Where do you count a white female aged 34 who was in one division for Q1 and then in a different division for Q2, Q3, and then another one for Q4? You need to know exactly where she was in each time period. Technology Solution – people changing positions - > that requires a technology called a ‘slowly changing dimension.’ Don’t worry too much about the term, but know that it can only be handled by BI solutions that include a warehouse –and Birst handles it automatically for you. Business need – IT was incredibly busy with a full blown SAP upgrade. They didn’t have the resources to support HR to address the Diversity Inclusion analytics. HR team knew they needed BI – but had only business analyst in HR, and no IT support. They needed a solution that would meet their business needs, but would not require any software to be installed, no hardware to be maintained, and would not require It support in future. They needed something their business analyst could manage on their own. n Technology Solution –Birst 100% cloud based BI, requires no IT to set up (automated data modeling), no hardware or software (100% in cloud) – Because it is end-to-end – it also met the hard requirements like slowly changing dimensions. Birst’s automated warehouse did all the hard technical stuff for them – and was easy for them to deploy and maintain – in fact – they expanded the use cases (more on that in a second) Business need– during each quarter – there were constant request to HR from GMs from various departments in different regions. HR team had to manually re-run analytics to determine where that department was in their diversity inclusion goals. Some numbers were inaccurate due to people changing positions and it took too long to get response back to the business leaders. They needed that information at their finger tips at all times, so they could make critical personnel decisions Technology Solution – With Birst they turned 1500+ reports into 8 interactive dashboards – and gave Business Users access to these dashboards. The business users literally just logged in to Birst and see where they stand at that instant and can make critical decisions instantly. In-bound requests for help on such matters dropped 80% - giving back HR managers and Business analyst at least 10% of their time – on those requests. With the 1500 reports totally automated and lack of in-bound requests, the former 3 FTE -3 week death march – was reduced to 1 FTE part time over 1.5 weeks. This was all made possible with a set of technology capabilities that you won’t find in other systems. Only Birst delivers that solution. What does HR team do with this extra time? They decided to make HR more strategic – to make HR metrics driven and better match productivity, to compensation, to better identify and retain top performers. To help provide better service to their employees, How did they do this? They brought all of that data from various different sources into Birst – and deployed a single HR dashboard. This includes data from Successfactors for performance, SAP for compensation, Avaya for help desk, and spreadsheets and other data sources… They may capture data about their business in SAP , Avaya, and SuccessFactors -> but they drive improvement in business by Using Birst. They went from tactically using spreadsheets to report on Diversity requirements, to driving the business with strategic HR, and improved overall job satisfaction greatly amongst HR team.
