RESPONSIBILITIES OF HEALTH
CARE WORKER HANDLING BMW
• BMW should be segregated at the point of generation by the person
who is generating
• BMW & General waste should not be mixed
• Storage time of BMW should be less than 48hrs
• No use of chlorinated plastic bags and gloves
• Pretreatment only for laboratory and chemical waste highly infectious
should be pretreated
• Provide bar code labels on all colour coded bags
• BMW bags not be filled more than 3 quarters
• Plastic bags never to be stapled but may be tied
• Measure the waste bag
