Harold Tagalog was assigned a task for his Biology 104 Genetics class to complete a matrix providing information on seminal findings and breakthroughs in genetics, including the date, discovery or invention, contributor, and impact. Some of the entries in the matrix include Barbara McClintock discovering transposable elements or "jumping genes" in 1940 and their role in species growth and evolution. Patrick Brown developed genomic mismatch scanning in 1993 to more quickly identify genes in families. Victor Dzau tested gene alterations on vein grafts in 1994 which helped make veins resistant to clogging after heart bypass surgery. The task is due by January 30, 2023.
