3. Introduction
Big bazaar is a chain of departmental stores in india
currently with 219 outlets.
It is owned by pantaloon retail India limited, future
group. It works on the same economy model as
wallmart and has been successful in many Indian
cities and town.
It is the fastest growing chain of departmental stores
and aims at having 350 departmental stores by 2010.
Big bazaar is the destination where you get products
available at prices lower than mrp. Setting a new level
of standard in price, convenience and quality.
4. HRM IN BIG BAZAAR
The HR department of big bazaar is very dynamic.
Employees are the biggest strength of big bazaar and
asset of any organization and the HR department
realizes it very well.
They take utmost care to select, train, motivate and
retain all the employees.
They have continuous development programs for all
the employees.
There are two shift for the employees. The first shift is
from 10 am in the morning to 7.30 in the evening.
At the second shift is from 12.30 in the afternoon and
closes at the time of store closing.
5. Strategies:
3-C Theory
Big Bazaar follows 3-C theory, Change and Confidence among
the population is leading to rise in Consumption, through better
employment and income.
Big Bazaar has divided India into three segments:
India one: The Consuming class which includes upper middle
and lower middle class (14% of India's population).
India two: The Serving class which includes people like drivers,
household helps, office persons, liftmen, and washermen (55% of
India's population) and
India three: The Struggling class (31% of India's population).
6. Selection process:
Executive level interviews are held at Gurgaon Big
Bazaar ( corporate Head Office).
And Sales employee’s selection is done through:
Personal interviews in three stages by the
respective :
HR manager of the store.
Departmental manager.
Store manager.
After selection of the employees, they are kept on a
probationary period of 6 months.
7. Training and development of the employees:
There is an induction period of 7 days.
