The Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) was previously known as the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics. It was established in 1971 in Dhaka after moving from Pakistan. BIDS conducts policy-oriented research on development issues in Bangladesh and other developing countries. It generates socio-economic data, contributes to policy formulation, provides training, and evaluates development interventions. BIDS aims to disseminate research-based policy options and facilitate development planning through its four divisions which focus on macroeconomics, human resources, industry/infrastructure, and population studies.
