key words: ( Refugee and Asylum seeker)
 Refugee:
A refugee is any person forced to flee their country
due to war, persecution, or because their home
government cannot (or will not) protect them. Often,
they’re unable to—or are too afraid to return home.
When a refugee flees, they’re registered with an
official agency, such as a government or the United
Nations. This allows them to gain access to state and
international aid and assistance.
 Asylum Seeker :
Asylum seekers are not officially designated refugees,
but they have appealed to achieve refugee status.
They’re in the process of leaving their country of
origin in order to escape war or persecution due to
their nationality, race, religion, or political affiliation.
 Where it all started???
 Why did the united states invade Afghanistan?
 The U.S.-led war in Afghanistan began in October 2001, in a bid to destroy Al Qaeda — the terrorist
organization behind the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks and oust its ruling ally, thali ban, which had rejected
U.S. demands to hand over Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.
 Weeks after al Qaeda attacked the united states on sept. 11, president George w. bush announced that
American forces had launched attacks against the terrorist group and Taliban targets in Afghanistan.
 “These carefully targeted actions are designed to disrupt the use of Afghanistan as a terrorist base of
operations, and to attack the military capability of the Taliban regime
 Mr. bush said the Taliban, which then governed most of Afghanistan, had rejected his demand to turn
over al Qaeda leaders who had planned the attacks from bases inside Afghanistan. he said he
intended to bring al Qaeda leaders to justice, adding, “and now the Taliban will pay a price.”
 In 2020, after more than 18 years, a civilian death toll reportedly in the tens of thousands, and the
deaths of more than 2,000 U.S. troops, the Trump administration negotiated a deal with the resurgent
Taliban that set a May 1, 2021,
 According to a 2020 study conducted under the auspices of the Watson Institute for International and
Public Affairs, the several wars initiated or participated in by the United States in its war against terror
have caused the displacement, conservatively calculated, of 37 million people in Afghanistan, Pakistan,
Iraq, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Somalia and the Philippines. 25 million people have returned home
following displacement
 In 2015, Germany and Sweden were the two most
popular countries for asylum-seekers from Syria,
Afghanistan, and Iraq. In Sweden, more than
35,000 asylum-seekers who arrived in 2015
registered as unaccompanied minors; 92% of them
were men and two thirds were Afghan.
 Between the end of 2019 and 2020, 416,630
asylum-seekers arrived in the European Union.
 In 2018, more than 138,000 people risked their
lives trying to reach Europe by sea; more than
2,000 of them drowned.
