Hawkeye, whose real name is Clint Barton, was first introduced as a reluctant villain in Tales of Suspense #57 in 1964 before becoming a perennial member of the Avengers. He was born in Waverly, Iowa and lost his parents in a car accident at a young age, after which he and his brother ran away from their orphanage and joined the Carson Carnival of Travelling Wonders.
