 Michael Erin, a former US Army captain, serves as a global
initiatives manager at Las Vegas Global Economic
Alliance (LVGEA). In his free time, Michael Erin likes to
read, and his favorite author is Pat Conroy.
For more than 45 years, Pat Conroy has published a
number of books in the Southern tradition, including his first
novel, The Boo, and The Death of Santini, his most recent
memoir. The latter offers the author’s reflection on one of
his previous works, The Great Santini, which director Lewis
John Carlino converted into an Oscar-nominated motion
picture in 1979, starring Robert Duvall. In addition, the plot
of his most successful work, The Prince of Tides, was
adapted for film in 1991 under the direction of Barbara
Streisand.
 Pat Conroy has garnered multiple literary
awards throughout his career, including the
2010 Elizabeth O’Neill Verner Governor’s
Award for the Arts for Lifetime Achievement
in South Carolina. He also won the F. Scott
Fitzgerald Award for Outstanding
Achievement in American Literature in
