This article will attempt to convince the reader that a blended learning approach, where an online course is supplemented by one or more classroom sessions along with several other potential delivery methods, has the greatest potential for a strong learning outcome and student satisfaction. This presentation will highlight some of the strategies that Charter Oak State College has adopted for translating traditional on-ground teaching methods to an online environment. In on-ground courses, faculty already know how to engage their students by way of “traditional” face-to-face methods. But when a course moves online, adapting “traditional” methods simply requires using those methods as a compass. Online education may be the future, but entering the future does not mean forgetting the past.
This presentation was part of a week long series promoting Universal Design for Learning. By using active learning strategies in the classroom, instructors can find ways of delving deeper into incorporating the 3 guiding princples of UDL.

دنیا کی تمام زبانوں میں ایک جگہ سے دوسری جگہ جانے والے کے لئے جو لفظ استعمال کیا جاتا ہے وہ اس لفظ سے مختلف ہوتا ہے جو اُس دوسری جگہ جاکر دوبارہ پہلی جگہ آنے والے کے لئے استعمال ہوتا ہے۔اگر ایک شخص نقطہ الف سے نقطہ ب تک سفر کرے تواُردو زبان میں اسے ایک مقام سے دوسرے مقام تک جانے والا کہتے ہیں۔لیکن اگر وہی شخص نقطہ الف سے نقطہ ب تک پہنچ کر دوبارہ نقطہ الف تک آئے تو اسے ایک مقام سے دوسرے مقام تک جانے والا نہیں بلکہ واپس آنے والا کہتے ہیں۔ اسی طرح عربی زبان میں ایک مقام سے دوسرے مقام تک جانے کو ’’نزول ‘‘ جبکہ دوسرے مقام سے لوٹ کر پہلے مقام تک آنے کو ’’رجوع ‘‘ کہتے ہیں۔حضرت عیسیٰ علیہ السلام کے متعلق یہ عقیدہ رکھا جاتا ہے کہ وہ زمین سے آسمان پر تشریف لے گئے ہیں اور اب قُربِ قیامت میں آسمان سے زمین پر تشریف لائیں گے۔ زبان و بیان کے مذکورہ بالا قواعد کی رُو سے حضرت عیسیٰ علیہ السلام کی آسمان سے زمین پر آمد کو اُردو زبان میں ’’واپسی‘‘ اور عربی زبان میں ’’رجوع ‘‘ کے لفظ سے ظاہر کیا جانا چاہئےتھا۔ لیکن اس کے برعکس احادیثِ نبوی میں جس جگہ بھی مسیؑح ابن مریم ؑ کی قربِ قیامت میں آمد کی خبر دی گئی ہے وہاں ’’رجوع ‘‘ کی بجائے ’’نزول ‘‘ کا لفظ استعمال کیا گیا ہے حالانکہ حضرت عیسیٰ علیہ السلام آسمان سے زمین پر محض آ نہیں رہے بلکہ واپس آرہے ہیں کیونکہ وہ آسمان پر زمین سے ہی گئے تھے۔
ایک مقام سے دوسرے مقام پر جاکر پھر اُسی مقام پر آنے کو رجوع یعنی واپسی کہنے کے قاعدہ کا ثبوت یوں تو عربی، اردو، انگریزی اور دیگر زبانوں کی لاتعداد مثالوں سے دیا جاسکتا ہے لیکن اسی نوعیت کی ایک مثال سے یہ بات نہ صرف زبان و بیان کے قواعد اور اُن کے استعمال بلکہ دینی پہلو سے بھی پایۂ ثبوت کو پہنچ جاتی ہے،جیسا کہ حضرت عمرؓ کے مندرجہ ذیل بیان سے ظاہر ہے کہ وہ رسول اللہ ﷺ کی وفات پر یہ نہیں کہہ رہے کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ موسیٰ علیہ السلام کی طرح اپنے رب
This is brief presentation dealing with the concept of Blended Learning (BL), the rational for using this approach. Four basic components of BL, and advantages for Ss and teachers who use this approach in language teaching combining F2F with online teaching.
Presented at the ELI 2015 conference. In an effort to improve the quantity and quality of online and blended courses taught at Purdue University North Central, a new program was put into place in fall 2014. Based on research in the value of peer mentoring in academic settings, a group of faculty mentors with extensive experience teaching with technology were paired with others who are just getting started. This presentation will describe the program structure, as well as the successes and challenges of the program from the faculty point of view, in order to assist other institutions in exploring similar models for improved faculty development.
Blended learning strategies vary according to the discipline, the year level, student characteristics and learning outcomes, and have a student-centred approach to the learning design. Blended learning can increase access and flexibility for learners, increase level of active learning, and achieve better student experiences and outcomes.

The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. The use of information technology tools in higher education has increased dramatically. Faculty in higher education settings are taking advantage of these tools to improve the learning experiences of students who are unable to come to campus but have also found that on-campus classroom based courses can also be improved by these technologies. Access to library and information services, web-based learning activities, and extended content discussions are becoming essential components of faculty efforts to improve teaching. Clearly, this expo is a testament to that fact. In my four years at USC, things have moved extremely fast that sometimes I can’t keep up.

Technology should not just enhance our current instructional approaches (ie. lecture on Power Point). Have to look back at our fundamental student learning goals for a specific course and brainstorm ways to use technology to enhance student learning. The technology cannot drive the teaching and learning. “ After all, technique is the differentiating force with all technologies” (Hamilton, 1999) People, institutions, companies and society at large, transform technology, any technology, by appropriating it, modifying it, by experimenting with it” (Castells, 2001)
This helps to focus and emphasize the pedagogical underpinnings of the technology application. I would argue that this is no different than what we should be doing with any other tool.

- In a traditional classroom, it’s fairly easy to tell when you are losing your students. Eyelids droop. Heads start to bob. And you have this funny feeling that the click-clacking of keyboards isn’t the result of copious note-taking. In an online classroom, it’s a little more difficult. Not only is it impossible to tell what students are doing on the other end, but the students have access to so many more distractions that it’s sometimes hard to keep them engaged in their learning.

Jobs says technology will amaze, but teachers are still at the epicenter (Newsweek, 2001). Distributed learning is much more than an online substitute for lectures and professors. Distributed learning extends the opportunities for interaction between faculty and student, incorporating simulations and visualizations, as well as collaborative learning. The “any time, anyplace” nature of this new set of electronic educational opportunities may well have its greatest impact on face-to-face education. Since distributed education can occur anywhere and at any time, these conditions can be modified on a number of dimensions. It will involve faculty to determine how these modifications will be made.
-In all my courses, I have focused on how to best foster the deep learning ideas and development of student thinking skills and use technology that addresses “bottlenecks.” -Technology enables many pedagogical strategies that were impossible or impractical
