Metrics should recognize development-focused research and scholars working across borders in the global South.

Her work examines the link between domestic violence and animal abuse, and how both people and pets are affected by violence in the home. Through her research, she hopes to create protocols for veterinarians to recognize signs of trauma in pets and treat animals that have experienced abuse or neglect. Catherine credits her veterinary and social sciences background from UQ with allowing her to conduct this unique research combining both fields.

Studying blood samples from people with HIV, they found the virus mutates to avoid antibodies called ADCC that are attacking it. This insight could help develop an effective HIV vaccine that induces antibodies difficult for the virus to escape from. With over 33 million people living with HIV worldwide, creating an HIV vaccine is critical for improving global health.

• The need to accelerate the transition to Open - operationalising and normalising open scholarship practices has proven challenging.

• The economic nature of challenges, either financial or relating to actors’ incentives, associated with the transition to open scholarship.
• Distortion of researcher behaviour due to over-reliance on traditional metrics.
• Underfunded and underdeveloped funder grant information systems. Poor adoption of PIDs and little to no interoperability with downstream stakeholders.
• Key contributors to the academic knowledge ecosystem being under-recognised
• Research being organised with ‘well defined’ rules that do not include ‘open’-related criteria.
The potential to improve open research evaluation practice as well as the requirements to implement the Openness Profile are addressed, including recommendations for stakeholders.

- 11. Common to all these themes are discovery, development and translation. We do cutting edge basic science including cell biology, immunology, biochemistry, genetics, microbiology and molecular science. This enables us to discover the origin and development of disease. Understanding the nature of human disease allows us to develop new drugs , accurate diagnostic tools, effective vaccines and other interventions which can be life saving. This in turn means that we can to take our discoveries into clinical research, and translate what we do from the laboratory to the bedside with the intention of improving people's lives.
