The American Physical Society (APS) is the largest publisher of physics articles and uses a hybrid model of open access and subscriptions. It has 10 publications, including Physical Review Letters and Reviews of Modern Physics. APS allows authors to post final manuscripts online and reuse portions of their work. While subscriptions fund operations, APS is exploring new open access initiatives like SCOAP3 and making more content freely available online at Physics.APS.org. APS believes open access must be sustainable and reversible to subscriptions to ensure the long-term viability of its peer-reviewed journals.
