Sustainable Energy Storage in a Sustainable Manner
Aims & Objectives
Primary aims of this project are to:-
 Develop a sustainable method for renewable
energy storage.
 Implement independent energy sources to meet
domestic demand even in remote places.
 Develop an energy management system to use the
combination of renewable energy sources and store
energy efficiently.
Proposed Method of
Energy Storage
 Combination of energy sources
(solar, wind, hydro) will provide
power for appliances. Excess
power will be used to pump up
water from a lower water tank to
upper water tank and then that
water will be stored there.
 At the time of demand, stored
water will be let to fall from upper
tank to lower tank through a water
turbine which will generate
electricity.
 An energy management
controller will make sure that all
sources are being used efficiently
and no water is being wasted as
water level sensor has been
added with system.
Background
Most common renewable energy sources are sun, wind
and water. Conventional way of storing energy from these
sources in domestic level are batteries. Due to
environmental effects, size, short lifetime, high installation
and maintenance cost, it is important to develop a eco-friendly,
low cost, long life time energy storage way which
can be implemented in domestic level. Proposed energy
storage system is considered as such a method which has
long lifetime, low maintenance cost and able to fulfil the
demand at domestic level without any environmental effect.

School of Engineering, Medway
 Measures generated power from sources.
 Combines the power.
 Compares generated power with required power for appliances.
 Calculates left over power.
 Pumps up water if left over is enough to do so.
 During peak time let water to fall from top tank to bottom tank through
water turbine generator.
 Measures generated power from water turbine generator.
System keeps following the steps sequentially as long as it is in operation.
Advantages of Proposed Method
How Energy Management Controller works?
Main advantages of this energy storage method are :-
 Eco-friendly.
 Low installation cost.
 Very low maintenance cost.
 Longer lifetime of the system.
 Efficient method.
 Applicable for remote places.
 Less energy loss.
Conclusion
This project deals with energy storage method and
combination of renewable energy sources. A sustainable
way of energy storage has been proposed. A energy
management system has been developed to use
combination of energy sources efficiently.
Time shortage and lack of required laboratory facilities did
not allow this project to do the physical test of the system.
Some future works need to be carried out to test overall
project physically.
