This document discusses perspectives on the origins of nonverbal communication (NVC). It explores whether NVC behaviors are innate or learned, and to what degree nature versus nurture influences them. Several studies provide evidence that some NVC behaviors like facial expressions of basic emotions may have innate, biological roots and be universally recognized across cultures, while other behaviors are more influenced by environmental and cultural factors.
