Brian Springer from the Pennsylvania Game Commission brought a tranquilized 150-pound bear to a biology class to demonstrate bear identification procedures. The students observed as Mr. Springer tagged the bear's ear, tattooed its gums, and extracted a tooth to determine its age. One student helped with the ear tagging and another recorded the tooth extraction. The purpose was to help identify and track bears to estimate populations and monitor species health. The bear was then released back into the wild.
