This paper reviews the empirical evidence on smallholder farmers’ market participation focusing on cash/food crops and livestock in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) with special attention on the methodological approaches employed in this region in an attempt to x-ray these methods, identifying their advantages and limitations and possible means smallholder farmers would be able to transit from subsistence to commercialised agriculture capable of lifting them out of poverty trap that seems to have engulfed many rural SSA. This paper recommends interventions geared towards improving smallholder farmers’ organisation, producers’ association and ensuring appreciable reduction in transaction costs and also improving farmers’ access to productive assets and improved technologies capable of stimulating profitable smallholders’ market participation.

Introduction
Technology has and continues to change the way businesses are transacted over the world. Implementation of information management systems, security control systems, order placement systems and online payment systems are some few examples of how technology is impacting business processes. While technology remain to be used as a key to creating a competitive advantage over ones competitors some technology system are not the best to be used in any business setup. McDonalds is one of the biggest fast food restaurants in the USA and in the world (Mathur 2017).
The restaurant serves the biggest population in the USA and in majority of the countries they have opened branches. The interesting part of the company is how they have managed to create a strong relationship with customers establishing long lasting loyalty. Also the company is able to meet the ever changing customer demands through ensuring that they respond to customer complains on their social media platforms within the shortest time possible. By ensuring they offer quality to the customers the company management have opted to be part of service delivery in ensuring effectiveness in the supply chain.
Over the recent past the company has mean able to digitize its activities by ensuring that they have a central information system whereby all customers' information and orders are received. While this is a very good initiative it is important for the stakeholders to realize that information systems can fail any time either because of power failure, intrusion by malicious people or even a natural disaster. This calls for a change which can be achieved only through reviewing the existing systems. There are several considerations to make when making a decision of whether to change an information system or to maintain the current one. Some of these considerations are:
Flexibility
Can the system be able to cater the changing business environment and customer needs? If the system is unable to accommodate the developing and growing environmental demands then a change is necessary.
Time management
One of the very crucial aspects of information system is time management. Any implemented system should enable users to spend less time that they used to spend prior its implementation.
Accountability
Accountability results to integrity. Systems should ensure that they are accountable and cannot be manipulated to favor either managers or supervisors Reliable The system must be reliable in delivering the best with the working environment. This means it must be able to function as it is intended to.
In McDonalds there is an integrated information system which is integrated and is accessed from one point. This mean all orders from different locations are sent to this central location where they are analyzed and processed for delivery. As we discussed earlier this is ...

IT Strategy for CowWow
As part of IT Strategy research paper, I have selected Cow Wow case study for my Week 7 writing assignment. In it, I recommended that Cow Wow could improve its business by using IT tools as follows:
1) Implement an incentivized customer satisfaction survey online to better understand the customer's consumer demographic.
2) Create a more consistent and widespread social media presence for the firm to capitalize on their millennial market.
3) Utilize a more accurate inventory management system to not waste product and to avoid inventory shortages where the product is selling well.
Description of the Business
CowWow Cereal Milk product which was owned by Mr. Pouy and his main focus area are children of age 5-10 years old who regularly use these products. The article does not tell us much about how much money is being made per purchase or how many of the product are selling, so those numbers will be hypothetical. The only concrete information we do have is that Cow Wow's creator Mr. Pouy made an initial investment of $175,000 into the first 9000 crates of product and will invest another $100,000 to $200,000 depending on which of the three options he takes for the future of his company (Grossmann, 2014).
IT Strategy Proposal
Some of the IT initiatives that can be used as part of business growth for CowWow cereal milk are as follows:
1) Implement an incentive based customer satisfaction survey online to better understand the customer's consumer demographic.
2) Create a more consistent and widespread social media presence for the firm to capitalize on their millennial market.
3) Utilize a more accurate inventory management system to not waste product and to avoid inventory shortages where the product is selling well (Butler, Herlihy, & Keenan, 2005, p. 341).Incentive based customer satisfaction survey
As part of business strategy and considering input of IT role, Mr. Pouy can use incentive based customer satisfaction survey, where an online survey can be used in order to better understand the customer’s consumer demographic and see how well he can do marketing in the areas that are not seeing any business and focus more on places where he is getting surveys. An online portal from SurveyMonkey can be used in order to reach out to customer to understand their needs. Some of the major inputs for business could be whether the customers are interested in distribution center based supply or picking up based supply or even home delivery needs can be derived based on the inputs from this online customer satisfacti.

Impacts of the Balanced Scorecard on the Stakeholders and the Communication Plan
Stakeholders-the stakeholders’ portfolios are very safe because there is accountability which starts from the employees to the management. It is the responsibility of the organization to see that the deliveries reach the destination safe and secure from any damage or theft.
Communication Plan-the balanced scorecard makes the communication plan to be efficient and objective-oriented. Because all the stakeholders have the notion that the communication management system is integrated so that the system tracks deliveries and the transport system has twenty-four-hour monitoring.
Identify key trends, assumptions, and risks in the context of your final business model
Key Trends-the transport system in the United States of America has had the number of drivers reducing at an alarming rate which shows that the business of shipment is getting wider and broader challenges each year. Secondly, the GDP of the organization is not bad because it is increasing annually.
Assumptions-there is an assumption that goods in transit are exposed to all types of risks, and therefore the company needs to have an integrated communication plan to monitor the deliveries and track the transport and supply chain management.
Risks-first of all there is a significant risk in the future of fewer drivers willing to take up jobs because the number is reducing quickly. The risk is associated with drivers who demand increased salaries due to the higher demand for drivers in the market. Furthermore, there is a danger of slowed down economies in which case the organization is going to experience moderate financial gains and dividend payment to the stockholders.
Strategic Objectives regarding Shareholder Value Perspective
Market Share- The business should fight hard and smart to get its market share because the market is full of parameters and investors with different motives in which case the increased market share increases dividend payment for the shareholder. This strategy can be achievable through online presence which will increase orders and sales thereof.
Revenues and Costs- The organization should balance the Revenues and Costs so that at the very end, the budgeted operations of the organization can earn mass income. Thus, the organization has a mandate to reducing the cost of transportation and increasing revenue through the incorporation of technology and market modalities which can bring that change.

The scope of the project, measurable values of the new system, description of the latest strategies and recommending either continue or stop with project establishment; all concepts described below.
3 High-level overall business needs and desired outcomes
Business needs refer to the gaps found in the current business and its objectives. The most important driving factors in most enterprises are business or enterprise needs. We have so many different types of needs; some of them include talent, infrastructure, facilities, systems, applications, and many more. For Phoenix enterprise to succeed, it should focus on several business needs that can help it accelerate and speed up the achievement of its goals. Here are some examples of business needs that should be met for the enterprise to acquire the desired outcome.
Clients. The enterprise has a responsibility of satisfying customers by providing them with suitable and needed goods and services(Yeganeh, 2019). Despite maintaining and retaining customers, it is its responsibility of the company to bring in new clients to enhance the expansion and growth of the company hence the need for the company to locate and bring in the right customers for product purchase and maximizing profits. Through having the right audience, the enterprise will be able to build a scalable business that will lead to better results.
4 Retention of employees. Despite ensuring that the business has a continuous flow of clients, having consistent employees to work on the proposed project is a great deal. Creates the need for the enterprise to ensure that it has steady workers who can aid in carrying out general enterprise tasks, working on products to improve them, and giving customer services, care, and help. Doing these will reduce the business turnover hence easier to manage.
Marketing Phoenix enterprises should make sure that they are conversant with the essential roles of marketing in an organization. They should always work to ensure that any marketing strategy employed is always equated to profit; however difficult it may be for an excellent strategized plan, and planned advertisement budget for thriving both online and offline.
5 Scope of the project
The scope of this project is to help Phoenix Fine Electronics maximize and increase profits by increasing sales and also increasing the number of customers present. Companies achieved this by expanding business through investing and building other new business in different locations. For example, when Phoenix Fine Enterprises decides to initiate and implement its newly suggested project of investing in three separate stores of good five y ...

A Study on Formulation of Costing SystemProjects Kart
A Study on Formulation of Costing System. Modern business needs frequent cost information about business activities to plan accurately for the future, to control business results and to make a proper appraisal of the performance of persons working in the organization. The fulfillment of these goals requires details about the costs incurred and benefits (revenues) obtained which are provided by “cost accounting”.
Financial accounting is developed over the time to record, summarize and present the financial transactions or events, which can be expressed in terms of money. This function was primarily concerned with record-keeping leading to preparation of Profit and Loss Account and Balance Sheet. The information obtained through financial accounts is useful to the shareholders, creditors, financial analysts, labour union, government authorities etc. However, the information generated by financial accountancy for several purposes is not sufficient for decision making in many areas.

Background and Company overview
Shutterfly is an internet based company that offers its clients a chance to publish and create customized: prints, calendars, stationery, cards, photo books and photo-sharing websites among other services. It was founded in 1999 amidst the dotcom craze where a lot of companies of its kind were more interested in aggressively pursuing market share than maintaining a profit margin. The sudden interest in the internet had led to the establishment of many internet based companies with a hope of snatching a speculated demand that never really actualized. Shutterfly is one of the few companies that survived the dotcom bubble and it eventually went public in 2006. Its survival can be greatly attributed to implementation of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Material Resource Planning (MRP).
ERP and MRP
Enterprise resource planning is a process that applies software to integrate and manage all the vital departments and functions of a business into one generalized system so that every unit of the business is able to acquire information efficiently from all the other units. On the other hand, material resource planning is a computerized approach to inventory planning, corporate planning and manufacturing and supplier scheduling which provides the users with the correct timing and quantity for orders. It also generates new orders and reschedules existing orders, in order to meet client specifications. The MRP is change driven meaning that it constantly recalculates based on actual forecasts unlike traditional methods that rely on historical data of demand to react to existing problems. Using ERP AND MRP, Shutterfly was able to keep all the different service departments in touch with each other and by concentrating on actual information about the demand available, they managed to turn a profit instead of being drawn into the aggressive market grabbing frenzy.
Processes to plan for sudden and drastic changes in demand
Using MRP, a company is able to keep track of inventory at all times and therefore, they are able to anticipate by using forecasts based on facts what the demand of products would be which eliminates the risk of being caught unaware. Using ERP and MRP, a company can maintain a balanced inventory that allows it to experience as little loss as possible while taking advantage of any opportunities in the case of any sudden changes in demand without having to rely on speculation

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

1. “Department-wise Problems and Solutions”
Marketing (Principles: Customer-Centricity, Sustainability Solutions, Affordable
Offerings, and Superior Customer Experience)
1) Fostering Idea of Sustainability-based Consumption : Eating Freshly Grown
foods has high benefits to our bodies
As people in India are still not inclined towards healthy eating habits, it is an issue
before marketing department to create awareness and build health-consciousness
amongst the target audience. Running targeted online and offline campaigns focused on
creating awareness about the benefits of consuming fresh produce can immensely help
in fostering this idea
2) Threat from local vendors and app-based services offering fresh farm produce
Stiff competition from local vendors and digital app-based delivery service providers is a
threat for the business. Providing similar customization and pricing options as those
offered by the competitors while constantly improving the quality standards is the key
to win over the competition. Further, collaborations can also help to kill the competition
and grow in the marketplace
3) Falling number of subscriptions
Introducing reward-point system and loyalty programs is the solution in this case. Make
the customers feel appreciated with the complimentary offerings and other sales
promotion offers
4) Focus of Omni-Channel Marketing Activities (Offline + Online)
A judicious blend of online and offline channels to promote the product can help
consumers get a superior customer experience. Moreover, use of targeted sensitizing ads
rather than direct promotions is the key. Arrangement of exhibitions and sample
offerings can also create a strong demand of the products
IT and Business Analysis (Reduced TAT, Superior Quality, Internal Efficiency, and Cost
Minimisation)
1) The problem of 6 hours of Turnaround Time (TAT)
Manual labor for harvesting, packing and sorting takes another 2 hours, which can be
minimized using automated machines for accelerated sorting and packing. Companies
such as Fresh Plaza, Unisorting and Unitec provide semi-automatic and fully-automatic
machines to conduct the sorting and packing of items in a much reduced time, and can
pack 1000 pouches per hour. Moreover, tractors and mechanized harvesters can help in
quick harvesting of crops from the farmland, instead of spending an hour there.
2. 2) Quality Considerations
Fresh Grower needs to invest in setting up small refrigeration units wherever it intends
to operate. It can store a specific amount of farm produce according to what the Machine
Learning models recommend. The freshness of the vegetables and fruits will have to be
ensured and therefore, the refrigeration units must be equipped with IoT sensors to
track the ambient temperature, relative humidity, and the pressure inside the
refrigeration units. The sensors will transmit important real-time data to a backend
database over a 4G network once every hour. The backend system will keep a track of
the environment parameters and will alert whenever the parameters have an anomaly.
3) Inventory Management and Cost Considerations
Based on historical order data, the ML models will recommend how much farm produce
must be harvested the next day and how much should be stored as a buffer stock. This
will ensure that Fresh Growers store only minimal amount of farm produce in the
refrigerators for those orders that arrive at odd times during the day. The entire data on
environment parameters, available inventory, and payments will be stored in the
database and will be made available in the MIS Reporting Tool.
4) Elimination of Redundancies and Inefficiencies
MIS Reporting Tools will help to visualize which processes are taking unnecessary long
times and how lead times can be reduced. This will help eliminate the wastage of
inventory, overproduction and defects. Moreover, the Finance team will be able to see
how cash outflows and inflows look like. The Marketing team will be able to visualize
which channels have contributed to the new and repeat orders, and which platform they
are arriving from. The Urchin Tracing Module (UTM) in the URLs used to place the
orders will help in tracking of marketing campaigns. Therefore, the marketing team will
be able to bring efficiencies to its marketing campaigns and portfolio of channels to drive
omni-channel strategy.
Finance (Enhanced Profitability, Controlled Risk, Better Returns, and Revenue
Producing Accelerated Offerings)
1) Less Profit Margins
As per the information supplied in the case study, the company is generating on an
average 30 INR as its profit margins per household order (INR 200 - INR 170), which
seems to be too less. The company must try to reduce the dependency on farmers and
must try to figure out ways to integrate backwards in the supply chain in order to
control and reduce the cost.
2) High Risk of the Owner
3. As it‟s a self-financed organization (owner has invested Rs.10 Lakh from his savings
as initial capital), there is a chance of huge business losses to be borne by the owner
as he is bearing all the risk. There should be judicious mix of debt and equity into
the company to diversify the capital structure and minimize the risk for the owner of
the business. This would be even more helpful in case of the expansion of the
business.
3) Expansion of Subscription- based delivery to subscription-based order
In order to increase the business sales revenue, the company must expand the scope
of its subscription-based delivery to subscription-based order selection. This will help
consumers to not only get additional services but also place regular customized
orders through apps with a click of a mouse.
HR (Motivation, Training, Development of Workforce, Stakeholder Management, and
Employer Branding)
1) Motivation of Field Workforce:
There are a lot of field workers involved in the procurement and delivery of fresh
produce. The efficiency of such workers plays a very important role in ensuring the
least turnaround time (TAT) in fulfilling the orders. Relevant motivational
techniques, majorly monetary incentives, need to be leveraged in keeping the
workforce interested in their respective jobs. Giving them timely performance-based
incentives and providing them with necessary capabilities play a pivotal role in
achieving the relevant targets.
2) Training and Development of Field Workers
Providing the field workers with required training and development from time-to-
time will help them in their career progression. A detailed plan of training and
development activities need to be chalked out and implemented to yield higher
productivity and lower TAT.
3) Changes in Selection Plan
The HR should focus on hiring contract labors/casual workers/temporary staff and
must frame their compensation strictly based on performance. This will not only help
in higher performance levels but will also help in cost savings for the company as a
whole.
4) Stakeholder Management
Another major concern for the HR department is the stakeholder management,
which includes relationship with suppliers and distributors of the company. As a
Business Partner, the company must bring in incentive plans for farmers, for
carrying out demand-based harvesting, so that their interests get aligned with that
of the company and it becomes a „Win-Win‟ strategy for both the parties. Not only
4. this, the HR must think to create new job positions on the field that can ensure
direct supervision over all the agricultural activities. This will bring in quality
control of the produce and will help the organization to achieve its USP on a
sustained basis.
5) Employer Branding: Last but not the least, the HR department must strictly
focus on establishing the brand equity of the company as an employer to retain
the workforce and build its goodwill in the market. This will not only help in
reputation management of the company but will also help to withstand stiff
competition from local suppliers and app-service providers. This can be done
through social media marketing, offline channels, testimonials, web presence
highlighting the sustainability goals of the company.
