It seems that no other era has seen such rapid transformation and progression in the marketing and public relations sector as we are seeing now. Technology changes and then strategies change. But for the most part, branding best practices remain the same. I thought the following ten quotes demonstrated that, no matter how many decades pass, there are still truths that should be noted and applied to your personal and business brand strategies.

Report chock full of very cool graphs and tables and useful information--in particular about the unconventional (shale) drilling industry in the state, but also about the conventional oil and gas industry in PA. Issued in 2014.
Published by the Pennsylvania Dept. of Environmental Protection, this is the first annual report from the DEP about the drilling industry in the state. The report celebrates the miracle of fracking shale in PA and the DEP's hard work to keep it safe. Along with the report the DEP has released a video starring some of the hard-working people for the Office of Oil and Gas Management. It is a FABULOUS video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27xMOiwvrLk&feature=youtu.be
This document summarizes and comments on several articles from a local Long Island publication called The Long Island Foghorn. The first article discusses how generations of Long Islanders have viewed the Pine Barrens region as unsuitable for farming or development, but it is actually teeming with diverse wildlife. Another article catches local politicians promoting abandoned development plans in the Pine Barrens region. Upcoming events are listed that relate to local environmental issues. One article discusses how motorboats pollute waterways with hydrocarbons more than all vehicles in Los Angeles. The document requests donations from readers to fund an investigative journalism project on the relationship between ecology, economics, and the future of Long Island.
The proposed Byhalia Pipeline would transport crude oil nearly 45 miles from Memphis to Marshall County, Mississippi. It would cross the active New Madrid Fault Line, posing risks of pipe failures that could contaminate the Memphis Sand Aquifer, which provides drinking water to the Memphis area. Past pipeline spills have caused environmental damage, health problems for residents, and cost issues during cleanup. The pipeline is opposed by environmental and community groups concerned with risks to water and climate change.
The document summarizes a 2015 oil spill that occurred along the California coast near Santa Barbara. An underground pipeline owned by Plains All American Pipeline ruptured, spilling over 100,000 gallons of crude oil. Some of the oil reached the Pacific Ocean and impacted local beaches and wildlife. Issues discussed include lack of oversight of the pipeline, effects on marine life, and the history of oil spills impacting the Santa Barbara coastline in the past.
Andy Freifeld, Temple University, “Landscape Design and Reuse Planning in Min...Michael Hewitt, GISP
Funding for mine land reclamation is difficult to acquire and, while the environmental benefits of reclamation are fully understood, the economic benefits of reclamation are just beginning to be appreciated. Innovations in landscape design and reuse planning can attract partnerships with lenders and investors and spur the economic development associated with reuse of abandoned mine lands. Strategies like energy development, carbon sequestration, and wetland banking can address environmental concerns, but should also preserve historical and cultural legacies in order to maximize economic gain. These environmental strategies are now being encouraged by State and Federal agencies, while the cultural legacies are more universally overlooked. This presentation will discuss the ways in which environmental design of reclamation projects could benefit both economically and environmentally by the inclusion of preservation and consideration of historical and cultural legacies of the sites, while still utilizing core environmental strategies.
This document summarizes a studio project exploring methods for designing in the coastal town of Leeville, Louisiana. The town is experiencing rapid land loss and the effects of climate change. Each student developed a fictional future scenario and method for Leeville through drawings, videos, and models. This intervention is meant to sustain Leeville's fishing industry and allow people to inhabit areas at risk of land loss.

Cameroon has a diverse population that practices several religions including Christianity, Islam, and traditional African beliefs. The diet consists of starchy foods like cassava and plantains eaten with spicy sauces. Today the economy relies on oil, agriculture, and fishing but faces issues of unemployment and poverty.
The urban development of Cardiff Bay underwent significant changes over the 20th century. In the 19th century, Cardiff Bay prospered as an industrial port due to its coal and iron resources. However, in the 20th century exports declined as overseas markets were lost in the wars and other countries produced steel cheaper. By the 1980s, the area was largely derelict with unemployment and empty buildings. To regenerate the area, the Cardiff Bay Development Corporation was created in 1987 and constructed a barrage to create a freshwater bay, attracting new housing, services, and tourism but flooding important tidal habitats.

Capstone Project: Luxury Handloom Saree Brand
As part of my college project, I applied my learning in brand strategy to create a comprehensive project for a luxury handloom saree brand. Key aspects of this project included:
- *Competitor Analysis:* Conducted in-depth competitor analysis to identify market position and differentiation opportunities.
- *Target Audience:* Defined and segmented the target audience to tailor brand messages effectively.
- *Brand Strategy:* Developed a detailed brand strategy to enhance market presence and appeal.
- *Brand Perception:* Analyzed and shaped the brand perception to align with luxury and heritage values.
- *Brand Ladder:* Created a brand ladder to outline the brand's core values, benefits, and attributes.
- *Brand Architecture:* Established a cohesive brand architecture to ensure consistency across all brand touchpoints.
This project helped me gain practical experience in brand strategy, from research and analysis to strategic planning and implementation.

“The oil is usually struck in thin strata
of sandstone, or oozes from between
laminae of slaty shale; it is usually
accompanied by sulphureted water. For
the most part, the oil is green, but heavy
black, brown, and heavy and light green
oils are found at no great distance from
one another. Some strata penetrated by
these tunnels yield much gas.”

“Oil is struggling to the
surface at every available
point, and running down the
rivers for miles and miles.”
- Prof. Benjamin Silliman Jr.
Yale University, 1863
“The first thing that attracts attention
is the ‘villainous smell’ of oil, the
enormous deposits of asphaltum, and
the oozing, bubbling, black, sluggish
rivulets of petroleum. These mineral
tar springs break forth from the base
[of Sulphur Mountain] almost to the
summit in a hundred places.”
