To Whom It May Concern,
It is my pleasure to write this recommendation for Ms. Alexa Basile. Ms. Basile student taught ninth
grade Global History classes for six weeks at the High School for Health Professions (HSHP). Ms.
Basile responsibilities included three sections of Global History 1, with a total of 94 students. Alexa
came well prepared to her student teaching experience. The H.S. for Health Professions is a diverse
school, and Ms. Basile demonstrated the ability to plan appropriate instruction that supported student
progress in learning and was appropriate for the developmental level of her students. Alexa employed a
variety of strategies, lessons, and projects to balance the cultural, socioeconomic, developmental needs
of our students and effectively dealt with the wide variety of students who attend our school.
During this time Alexa planned and implemented the daily homework, quizzes and unit tests. Her units
were thoroughly prepared and implemented. Alexa was successful in demonstrating her awareness of
different learning styles and adequately adjusted assignments to meet the varied needs of students.
Furthermore, Ms. Basile adapted classroom climate needs for different classes as well as for individuals,
when needed. She was willing to come up with creative lessons that proved to be interesting and
educationally effective. Alexa successfully employed engaging activities. For example, Alexa’s
PowerPoint presentations were integral to her teaching as well as student learning, were compelling, and
exhibited high production values. Ms. Basile is adept at using computers and technology and her
experience in media has prepared her well for the 21st
century contemporary classroom.
On a practical level, all papers, quizzes and tests Ms. Basile assigned to the students were immediately
graded and returned to the students. In addition, she successfully set up and implemented classroom
systems to organize student work, daily attendance, grade papers and enter them into the grade book
located on the course website. Ms. Basile participated in keeping the course website up to date during
her student teaching. This allowed for students and parents to keep abreast of classroom activities,
homework, and additional background information that extended classroom learning. Alexa maintained
a level of efficiency that was fueled by her obvious work ethic and professional concern for her
students’ progress. Ms. Basile also participated in faculty meetings, department meetings and
professional development both in house and out of the school building.
Ms. Basile’s classroom management style developed into that of a veteran teacher. Her maturity in
dealing with the students was evident and, as a result, commanded real respect from the students. Ms.
Basile was friendly but authoritative and fair. She expected students to be on task at all times, participate
in discussions, activities, projects and assignments. When students made other choices, she was quick to
provide feedback and instruction of appropriate behavior. Alexa’s classroom rules applied equally to all
students while giving them the freedom to learn and explore.

Alexa possesses a positive and enthusiastic personality, exhibits professional behaviors, ethics and
values. She is dependable, conscientious and professional in her appearance and demeanor while
respecting the variety of cultures present within the school. She had a great rapport with students she
worked with in both formal and informal settings. Alexa was always ready with a smile and a kind
word; therefore the students were very comfortable going to her with questions regarding their
schoolwork. Ms. Basile did a great job helping those students who struggled with the subject,
volunteering her time to tutor students who were struggling, further evidencing her dedication to the
teaching profession. Alexa took the time to learn each student’s specific needs and helps them achieve
their goals in learning new things.
I am confident that Ms. Alexa Basile will be an asset to any graduate program. She is confident,
knowledgeable, and has the skills of a seasoned teacher. Alexa has blossomed into an exceptional
teacher and has earned my respect and highest recommendation. I believe that she will continue to grow
