Basal cell carcinoma

1. Basal Cell Carcinoma
• 80%
• Fair skinned
• Sun exposed skin in any hair bearing area
• Genetic Disorders – XP, Gorlin’s Syndrome

2. Gross
• Reddish, tan to pink papules or nodules
• With or without ulceration (Rodent ulcer)
• Often with telangiectasia (prominent sub
epidermal vessels)

4. Microscopic
• Nests and nodules of tumour cells arranged in
dermis, but arising from the basal layer of
epidermis.
• Basaloid cells with scant cytoplasm, elongated
hyperchromatic nuclei.
• Peripheral palisading of nuclei.
• Peritumoral Clefting
• Myxoid stroma.
