I. Objective:
A. Identify the main parts of the tongue.
B. Explain the functions of each part.
Values: Care of the tongue
II. Subject-Matter:
Parts of the tongue and Their Functions(Sense Organ-Unit1-PEOPLE
Reference.RBEC1.21,22,pp.38-39,Science and Health3,p24,Science3 for Better Health and
Environment.)
A. Science Concept-The tongue is the organ of taste.Its surface has taste buds.It can move in
different ways to mix the food with the saliva.
B. Process Stressed-Observing, Describing and Inferring
C. Science Vocabulary-taste buds , muscle, nerve ending
D. Materials: Picture, Mirror.
III.Procedure:
A. Health Inspection-Tongue
B. check-up of Assignments
C. Review-Parts of the nose and their functions
D. Lesson Proper
1. Motivation-What helps you tell the taste of the food you eat? What are the different parts
that sense different taste? (present a picture of a tongue then ask more questions about it?
2. Activity - Parts of the Tongue (picture bitter, Salty, sour, sweet. Hold your tongue out
before a mirror. What is its shape? Move it up and down. Move side words. Roll it. Can
you tongue do all these? Why?
3. Discuss/Analysis-The tongue is a muscle .It is attached to your mouth and throat. You
can move your tongue in different ways. The tongue is covered with mucous membrane.
The membrane has tiny bumps. Some of this tiny bumps contain taste buds which can
detect the four kinds of taste; sweet ,sour, salty, bitter
4. Concept Formation-The tongue is the organ of taste. Its surface has taste buds. It can
move in different ways to move food with the saliva.
5. .Application-Study the drawing and label its part. Then tell its functions.
IV. Evaluation;
Draw fruits or food that can give sweet, sour, bitter, and salty tastes.
V. Assignment: Be able to tell the parts of the skin and their functions tomorrow.
