Elizabethan England   Queen Elizabeth was the ruler of England  Peaceful time period, compared to her father’s rule who was King Henry VIII Celebrated the arts, music, theatre, science, and philosophy Due to her passion for it, citizens began to celebrate and appreciate dancing and theatre
Shakespeare   Began as an actor and later began to write plays and poetry Became very popular for his comedies during the time, even though he is more well known now for his tragedies Theatre Company: Lord Chamberlain’s Men  New Theatre: The Globe (Although it burned down when the straw roof caught fire, it was rebuilt in 1996 and is open to the public. I went and have pictures from the trip.)
Popularity   Shakespeare’s plays were popular for a variety of reasons, including: A large variety of audiences (including wealthy and poor) Fast-paced humor  Topical humor, yet universal themes Costumes Action scenes Poetic Speeches  (Overall, everyone could appreciate or find something they liked about his plays- rich, poor, educated, or common-class.)
