The document discusses slow food and vegetarian diets as popular food movements in Italy that promote health. It notes that slow food focuses on local ingredients and replicating home cooking, while vegetarian diets avoid meat and other animal products for health, ethical, or environmental reasons. A vegan diet is described as the strictest form of vegetarianism that excludes all animal products including dairy and eggs.
The truth about the raw food diet - You'll mostly be eating raw fruits, vegetables, and grains. The idea is that heating food destroys its nutrients and natural enzymes, which is bad because enzymes boost digestion and fight chronic disease. In short: When you cook it, you kill it. Some fans of raw food diets believe cooking makes food toxic.

Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

1. FOOD
MOVEMENTS
Slow food and the vegetarian diet are the
topics that we’re going to show in this
presentation. They’re the most popular food
movements known in Italy.
In addition, they are the healthiest because
they’re the most complete from the
nutritional point of view.
2. • The food we eat gives our bodies
the "information" and materials
they need to function properly. If
we don't get the right information,
our metabolic processes suffer and
our health declines.
The nutrients in food enable the cells in our bodies to perform their necessary
functions. This quote from a popular textbook describes how the nutrients in food
are essential for our physical functioning.
Food acts as
medicine to
mantein, prevent
and treat disease.
Nutrients are the nourishing substances in food that are essential for the growth,
development and maintenance of body functions. Essential meaning that if a
nutrient is not present, aspects of function and therefore human health decline.
When nutrient intake does not regularly meet the nutrient needs dictated by the
cell activity, the metabolic processes slow down or even stop.
What does food do in our bodies?
• If we get too much food, or food that gives our
bodies the wrong instructions, we can become
overweight, undernourished, and at risk for
the development of diseases and conditions,
such as arthritis, diabetes, and heart disease.
Nutrients give our bodies instructions about how to function. In this
sense, food can be seen as a source of "information" for the body.
3. Against
Fast Food
• Nowadays the problem of fast food is
widespread all over the world. Fast food
restaurants are situated almost in ever
county and the most popular of them
are McDonald’s, Burger King’s, KFC
restaurants. There are many debates
about the pluses and minuses of fast
food, but in spite of them, that industry
is prospering.
• It’s late, it’s been a long day, you’re
starving and you’re too exhausted to
cook. So you looking for the better
choice and…let’s go to fast food! We
promise you, it’s really not.
Why the most part of population
prefer to have a meal in Fast
Food?
The Fast Food are the place
where the population mostly
have a meal. Why?
Cheap and easy fast food meals
are tempting, but are they really
worth it?
4. What advantages and disadvantages
does fast food have?
Pro Fast Food
• The advantages of fast food are lot,
probably the greatest one is that it
saves time. When a person doesn’t
have time enough for cooking it’s very
convenient to buy it already made.
Also the calories contained in fast
food dishes are not so harmful for
health if you eat them very rarely.
• Proponents of fast food ensure that
there foods are safe for human
consumption, but critics argue that
their effect are bad for health.
Versus Fast Food
• INGREDIENTS. Fast food contain a lot of calories, which can
make you overweight and cause obesity. It’s a serious problem in
USA in fact, as we can see, fast food is mostly popular there.
• LOW NUTRITIONAL VALUE. Fast food meals isn’t
recommended to keep a good health. In fact the food is loaded
with preservative, doesn’t contain vitamins, the preferred
cooking method is deep-fried (no the correct choice for your
health).
• LOW FOOD QUALITY. It’s doesn’t take an expert to see that
most fast food chains don’t use the highest quality of ingredients
(wilted lettuce, extra chewy chiken).
• FOOD PREPARATION. It’s called fast food for a reason. Most of
the meals you get aren’t cooked with thought or love. Many are
unwrapped from their frozen containers and thrown into a dirty
microwave. This saves time and money for business.
• DISGUSTING ANIMAL CONDITION. Many animals come from
factories-farms are kept in such a small place that they are forced
to stand and joint pain because of they confinement. To keep the
animals from getting sick in these conditions, they are pumped
full of antibiotics, which often end up in our food.
5. Slow Food
Restaurants
Exploiting and using local grown ingredients are
an alternative to Fast Food Restaurants.
Slow food also wants to reproduce, in a refined
way, home cuisine.
6. Why is it better to eat at Slow
Food Restaurants?
▶ Fresh Food & Flavor: When food is grown locally, crops are
harvested at peak ripeness. Food that’s shipped is usually
picked before its peak so it won’t spoil during transit, which
sacrifices some of the flavors. Nothing comes close to the
freshness you’ll find from locally grown foods!
▶ More Nutrition: The longer harvested food takes to get to
your table, the less nutritional value it has. Locally grown
food has a much shorter transit time, which means it has
more nutritional value than shipped, frozen food. The better
nutritional choice is always locally grown food.
▶ Helps The Local Economy: When you eat from locally-
sourced restaurants, you invest in the community. The money
goes to the local farmers who reinvest into your
neighborhood’s economy. You get to enjoy fresh, delicious,
and nutritional food while also supporting your neighbors.
▶ Local Foods Promote Safer Food Supplies: Compared to food
that’s shipped, there are fewer opportunities for your food to
be contaminated with local food. Shipped, frozen fruit, meat,
and veggies have to go through several places for washing,
shipping, and distribution, potentially exposing them to
unsafe conditions.
7. Which factors are most
important in your decision to
visit fast-food restaurants?
10. THE VEGETARIAN
DIET
A vegetarian does not eat foods that consist of, or have been produced from, any
part of the body of a living or dead animal. This includes meat, poultry, fish, shellfish
(Crustaceans , Molluscs), insects, by-products of slaughter (gelatine, isinglass and
animal rennet) or any food made with processing aids created from
these.
The Vegetarian Society defines a vegetarian as
follows: "A vegetarian is someone who lives on a diet
of grains, pulses, legumes, nuts, seeds, vegetables,
fruits, fungi, algae, yeast and/or some other non-
animal-based foods (e.g. salt) with, or without, dairy
products, honey and/or eggs. ‘’
The Choice of Vegetarianism
Kids or families may follow a vegetarian
diet for variety of reasons. Younger
vegetarians are usually part of a family
that eats vegetarian meals for health,
cultural, or other reasons. Older kids may
decide to become vegetarians because of
concern for animals, the environment, or
their own health.
11. Vegan lifestyle
Vegan lifestyle is a type of the vegetarian diet.
Veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as
far as is possible and practicable, all forms of
exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing
or any other purpose. A vegan diet contains only
plants – such as vegetables, grains, nuts and fruits –
and foods made from plants. Vegans don't eat foods
that come from animals, including dairy products and
eggs. People choose to be vegan for
health, ethical or
environmental
reasons. For
example, some
vegans feel that
one promotes the
meat industry by
consuming eggs
and dairy
products.
