AUTOMATED MANAGEMENT OF POTHOLE RELATED DISASTERS USING IMAGE PROCESSING AND ...ijcsit
Potholes though seem inconsequential, may cause accidents resulting in loss of human life. In this paper, we present an automated system to efficiently manage the potholes in a ward by deploying geotagging and image processing techniques that overcomes the drawbacks associated with the existing
survey-oriented systems. Image processing is used for identification of target pothole regions in the 2D
images using edge detection and morphological image processing operations. A method is developed to
accurately estimate the dimensions of the potholes from their images, analyze their area and depth, estimate the quantity of filling material required and therefore enabling pothole attendance on a priority basis. This will further enable the government official to have a fully automated system for e f f e c t i v e l y ma n a g i ng pothole related disasters.

Monitoring traffic in urban areas is an important task for intelligent transport applications to alleviate the traffic problems like traffic jams and long trip times. The traffic flow in urban areas is more complicated than the traffic flow in highway, due to the slow movement of vehicles and crowded traffic flows in urban areas. In this paper, a vehicle detection and classification system at intersections is proposed. The system consists of three main phases: vehicle detection, vehicle tracking and vehicle classification. In the vehicle detection, the background subtraction is utilized to detect the moving vehicles by employing mixture of Gaussians (MoGs) algorithm, and then the removal shadow algorithm is developed to improve the detection phase and eliminate the undesired detected region (shadows). After the vehicle detection phase, the vehicles are tracked until they reach the classification line. Then the vehicle dimensions are utilized to classify the vehicles into three classes (cars, bikes, and trucks). In this system, there are three counters; one counter for each class. When the vehicle is classified to a specific class, the class counter is incremented by one. The counting results can be used to estimate the traffic density at intersections, and adjust the timing of traffic light for the next light cycle. The system is applied to videos obtained by stationary cameras. The results obtained demonstrate the robustness and accuracy of the proposed system.
A computer vision-based lane detection technique using gradient threshold and...IJECEIAES
Automatic lane detection for driver assistance is a significant component in developing advanced driver assistance systems and high-level application frameworks since it contributes to driver and pedestrian safety on roads and highways. However, due to several limitations that lane detection systems must rectify, such as the uncertainties of lane patterns, perspective consequences, limited visibility of lane lines, dark spots, complex background, illuminance, and light reflections, it remains a challenging task. The proposed method employs vision-based technologies to determine the lane boundary lines. We devised a system for correctly identifying lane lines on a homogeneous road surface. Lane line detection relies heavily on the gradient and hue lightness saturation (HLS) thresholding which detects the lane line in binary images. The lanes are shown, and a sliding window searching method is used to estimate the color lane. The proposed system achieved 96% accuracy in detecting lane lines on the different roads, and its performance was assessed using data from several road image databases under various illumination circumstances.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Automatic road crack detection and characterization
1. AUTOMATIC ROAD CRACK DETECTION AND
CHARACTERIZATION
ABSTRACT
A fully integrated system for the automatic detection and characterization of cracks in
road flexible pavement surfaces, which does not require manually labeled samples, is
proposed to minimize the human subjectivity resulting from traditional visual surveys. The
first task addressed, i.e., crack detection, is based on a learning from samples paradigm,
where a subset of the available image database is automatically selected and used for
unsupervised training of the system. The second task deals with crack type characterization,
for which another classification system is constructed, to characterize the detected cracks'
connect components. Cracks are labeled according to the types defined in the Portuguese
Distress Catalog, with each different crack present in a given image receiving the appropriate
label. Moreover, a novel methodology for the assignment of crack severity levels is
introduced, computing an estimate for the width of each detected crack. Experimental crack
detection and characterization results are presented based on images captured during a visual
road pavement surface survey over Portuguese roads, with promising results. This is shown
by the quantitative evaluation methodology introduced for the evaluation of this type of
system, including a comparison with human experts' manual labeling results.
EXISTING SYSTEM
The Crack and Pothole in the roads is one of the major problems nowadays. People are
struggling to travel from one place to another. People feel lazy to complain to the government
about the issue. So for this purpose, we propose the automatic crack and Pothole detection
using the sensor and monitor on the Google map.
2. PROPOSED SYSTEM
In this paper we propose the automatic road crack and pothole detection using the
sensor and the information will be updated on the PC. The place where the crack will be
detected is monitored by using the Google map. If the crack has presented in the road by
using the sensor the information regarding the crack or pothole is updated on the PC and also
the information send the officials for the future recovery. By using this project, we reduce the
human effect to report about the problem.
