WSO2Con EU 2016: Real-time Monitoring of API Architectures
Do you know the status of your platform? Do you know which service are down and which are online? Are you aware of how well your services are performing in real-time? Can you receive this information rapidly through a smart interface? Profesia’s customer can answer yes to all these questions. They developed a monitoring application based on WSO2 Data Analytics Server (WSO2 DAS) and REST services so that users will know the current state of a service. Through this mobile application, users can understand which services are online and which are offline and can also retrieve certain service information such as the URL, machine and last response time. They used WSO2 DAS to define the key performance indicator (KPI), the event and the preparation of the real-time-data. This solution is a must-have for all people that have an API architecture so that they can easily monitor their entire service-oriented architecture (SOA) platform and reap the benefits of doing so.

Infrastructure Monitoring with Postgres
The revolt against SQL continues at a steady but considerably slower pace. Bespoke database software seems to crop up daily in the name of performance or functionality. This talk will examine the ever growing field of monitoring systems and their respective databases, and look in depth as to how Postgres can be used in a number of these places. Systems of this nature are typically tasked with collecting and storing metrics from your infrastructure, drawing pretty graphs, and nagging you when things break.
Forms of data stored by these systems are nothing to be afraid of - they often include:
- Time series metrics - the history of a measurement over time, e.g. temperatures
- Logs - unstructured text emitted by applications, operating systems and hardware
- Events - schema-less but well structured notifications
An assertion of this talk is that for a majority of use cases, Postgres is more than capable of storing all of this data. We will attempt to replace numerous well known pieces of software with just one Postgres database. Of course we are told to use the right tool for the job, but having to learn and operate a single tool is a huge operational advantage.
We’ll get quite technical in this talk, take a look the data models and access patterns required, and how this can be fitted into the general purpose environment of Postgres. Additionally, it is always constructive to look at what can be problematic, and not just focus on the positives, and why many turn to other bespoke solutions.

EFL QA Status Report
The document summarizes the current state of quality assurance testing at Samsung Open Source Group and proposes next steps. It describes their use of compile-time testing, unit testing, and Jenkins for continuous integration. However, graphical testing is missing and unit test coverage is only 39.2%. The document recommends prioritizing graphical testing using Excatness, increasing unit test coverage 5-10% per release, adding pre-push continuous integration, and expanding the test matrix to cover more configurations. Overall progress on testing has been slow and motivation for writing new unit tests is needed.

Testing & continuous delivery
This document discusses software development best practices including unit testing, integration testing, continuous integration, and continuous delivery. Unit testing isolates and tests individual code units to verify they work as intended. Benefits include finding problems early and allowing refactoring without fear of regressions. Limitations are that tests only check for certain errors and require additional test code. Common unit testing tools include JUnit and Mock objects which simulate objects for testing. Integration testing combines modules tested individually. Continuous integration runs automated tests and builds on every code change. Continuous delivery fully automates the software delivery process.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
