15. THE PROPHET DANIEL
Lived about 600 years before YESHUA
He was a survivor of the Babylonian attack on Jerusalem as
prophesied by Jeremiah, in 606 B.C.
He was trained and appointed to serve in the palace of the
Babylonian king Nebuchadnezar.
THE KINGS HE SERVED, HAD SERIES OF DREAMS which he
interpreted.
Nebuchadnezar a dream concerning a succession of FOUR
KINGDOMS: the Babylonian, Medo-Persian, Greek and Roman
empires.

16. THEN IN CHAPTER 8, HE HIMSELF HAD A
STRANGE VISION:
• A VISION OF A TWO-HORNED RAM (VERSE 3)
•CONQUERED THE WEST AND NORTH AND SOUTH
•THEN A VISION OF A POWERFUL GOAT, CAME
CHARGING AGAINST THE TWO-HARMED RAM,
COMPLETELY DESTROYING THE RAM (V. 5-8)

17. Then AN INTERESTING STATEMENT proceeds,
which some Bible scholars call is the “interpreter’s
nightmare: (Daniel 8)
• 9 Out of one of them (THE HORNS OF THE GOAT) came another horn, which
started small but grew in power to the south and to the east and toward the
Beautiful Land. 10 It grew until it reached the host of the heavens, and it
threw some of the starry host down to the earth and trampled on
them. 11 It set itself up to be as great as the commander of the army of
the LORD; it took away the daily sacrifice from the LORD, and his sanctuary
was thrown down. 12 Because of rebellion, the LORD’s people[a] and the daily
sacrifice were given over to it. It prospered in everything it did, and truth
was thrown to the ground.
• 13 Then I heard a holy one speaking, and another holy one said to him, “How
long will it take for the vision to be fulfilled—the vision concerning the
daily sacrifice, the rebellion that causes desolation, the surrender of the
sanctuary and the trampling underfoot of the LORD’s people?”
• 14 He said to me, “It will take 2,300 evenings and
mornings (2,300 days); then the sanctuary will
be re-consecrated.”

does. He will destroy those who are mighty, the holy people. 25 He
will cause deceit to prosper, and he will consider himself superior.
When they feel secure, he will destroy many and take his stand
against the Prince of princes. Yet he will be destroyed, but not by
human power.
26 “THE VISION OF THE EVENINGS AND MORNINGS THAT HAS BEEN
GIVEN YOU IS TRUE, (MEANING THE 2,300 DAYS!!! VERSE 14) but
seal up the vision, FOR IT CONCERNS THE DISTANT FUTURE.”
27 I, Daniel, was worn out. I lay exhausted for several days. Then I got
up and went about the king’s business. I was appalled by the vision; it
was beyond understanding.”

Canal,[p] ‘Gabriel, interpret what that fellow has been
seeing.’
17 “As he approached where I was standing, I became
terrified and fell on my face. But he told me, ‘Son of
man, understand that the vision pertains to THE
TIME OF THE END.’

24. A preterist view held by many Reformers:
•… the period of 2300 days meant literal days
in the fulfillment which occurred during the
reign of Antiochus Epiphanes. This was the
period of APOSTASY or REBELLION which
began in 171 B.C. and ended in 164 B.C. with
the cleansing and restoration of the Temple
in Jerusalem by the revolt led by Judas
Maccabeus and his brothers. The period of
wholesale apostasy lasted 6 years and 110
days -- or EXACTLY 2300 days.
•Amazing, BUT IT STILL DOES NOT SPEAK OF
THE TIME OF THE END!! (Daniel 8:17)

25. THE MYSTERY OF THE 2,300 DAYS

• It is SEVEN SETS OF ANNUAL FEASTS, FROM THE START OF THE FIRST FEAST
OF THE FIRST YEAR TO THE SEVENTH (LAST) FEAST OF THE SEVENTH YEAR
• IT IS NOT SEVEN 360-DAY YEARS, BUT SEVEN SETS OF FEASTS COVERING
SEVEN YEARS!!!

26. A FUTURIST (END-TIME) VIEW:
• Beginning moment when the Grecian “goat” attacked and
pulverized the two-horned Persian “ram” -- till the END of
the vision, when the “sanctuary” would be cleansed or
restored, during the “TIME OF THE END” (Dan.8:17; also
8:13, and 5-7).
• The prophesied length or duration of this vision was to be
2300 “days” (v.13-14). Using the “day for a year” principle,
(2 PET. 3:8, PSALM 90:4) we have therefore 2300 YEARS of
fulfillment.
• Alexander the Great attacked and conquered the
assembled Persian army at the river Granicus in 334 B.C.,
storming across the river with fury, with only 30,000 troops,
devastating the Medo-Persians.
• Since the prophecy begins with this event, we must count or
add the 2300 years from that very date. LET’S SEE WHERE
IT ENDS!

RABBINIC INTERPRETATION BASED ON THE
ORIGINAL BIBLICAL HEBREW LANGUAGE USED:
DANIEL 9:13 “UNTIL WHEN will the vision to be fulfilled…?”
20 He said to me, “UNTIL the EVE of the MORN of 2300 (years from
the time that) v’nitzdak kodesh (the sanctuary will be cleansed).”
• Let us now begin our study on when this day shall be.
• The text of Daniel 8:13 begins with the word, “Until”. This word is
notably exclusive, in that it pinpoints an exact moment of time. The
word “until” does not include the endpoint of time. If we were to
say, “I will be working “until” the Sabbath (Shabbat)”, we are actually
saying that we will be doing our ordinary forms of labor up to the
moment that the Sabbath begins. It means, “through Friday up to
the eve of the Sabbath” or “one day before the Sabbath.” As this
verse is a prophetic verse where one day is recognized as one year,
we are talking about one day (year) before the completion of the
2300 years or 2299 years from the starting point of the prophecy.

29. THE SECOND WORD:
• The second word to understand is the word, “Erev” which is
translated as “eve.” This is the unit of time right before the event in
question. For example, “Erev Shabbat” is the Friday, ‘one (day)
before’ the Sabbath day (Shabbat). In the same light, “Erev
Sh’mita” is one (year) before the Sabbatical Year.” In this text, “erev
2300 years” is “one (year) before the 2300 years” from the starting
point of v’nitzdak kodesh.
• So now we have the following calculation, one year for
“Until” and one year for “erev” before the 2300 years are
complete. Or it could state, two years less than 2300 years or 2298
years from“v’nitzdak kodesh.” (CLEANSING OF THE SANCTUARY)
• For 2298 years the Jewish people will be unable to completely govern
their holy sites. The text does not state that the Jewish people will
exercise their right or their national option to govern the site of
their holy temple and the sacred tombs of their ancestors but
it does state that they now have the capacity to govern how these
sacred places will be treated with the respect and decorum that is
due them.

30. The RABBINIC Calculation for the 2300 Year
Prophecy of Daniel 8:13
• Daniel 8:13-14 – “I heard a holy one speaking.
And the holy one said to the anonymous one who was speaking,‘For
how long, this vision concerning the daily sacrifice and the mute
abomination, permitting the trampling of the holy and the host?’”…
“UNTIL the EVE of 2,300 DAYS…”
• Jewish Year of:
• 3410 (350 BCE) as the year that the Jewish people returned to the
Land of Israel and built and dedicated the House to
Hashem their God. This is the starting point for the
v’ntizdak kodesh (tsadaq qodesh)
• +2298 years in which the Jewish people were under Gentile
domination and powerless to control the desecration of
their holy sites.

21 while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I
had seen in the vision at the first, came to me in swift flight at
the time of the evening sacrifice.
22 He made me understand, speaking with me and saying, "O
Daniel, I have now come out to give you insight and
understanding.
23 At the beginning of your pleas for mercy a word went out,
and I have come to tell it to you, for you are greatly loved.
Therefore consider the word and understand the vision.

• 24"Seventy 'sevens' (OR “SEVENTY WEEKS”) are decreed for your
people and your holy city to finish transgression, to put an end to sin,
to atone for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal
up vision and prophecy and to anoint the most holy.
• 25"Know and understand this: From the issuing of the decree to
restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the
ruler, comes, there will be SEVEN 'SEVENS,' and SIXTY-TWO
'SEVENS.' It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of

• 26 After the sixty-two 'sevens,' the Anointed One will be cut off and
will have nothing. The people of the ruler who will come will destroy

middle of the 'seven' he will put an end to sacrifice and offering.

SEVEN SPEAK OF THE ENDTIMES?
•The Purpose of the 70 Weeks
The prophecy contains a statement concerning
God’s six-fold purpose in bringing these events to
pass. Verse 24 says this purpose is 1) “to finish
transgression,” 2) “to put an end to sin,” 3) “to
atone for wickedness,” 4) “to bring in everlasting

associated with judgment on an unbelieving world. As discussed, the
end of the 49th Shmitah year will fall on the eve of Yom Kippur
2015. It is Yom Teruah 2015 that will begin year 6,000 with the 7th
