From many helpful sources it is clear to see that from the top 100 in the billboard charts there is
a lot of Rap and R&B, this isn’t too great as we are planning on doing a house music video. The
songs that are currently popular are ‘Wild Thoughts’ By Rihanna, DJ Khaled and Bryson Tiller
which is in the genre of R&B, another song that is popular is ‘1-800-273-8255’ By Logic ft Alessia
Cara & Khaled which again is Hip Hop/Rap. The recording industries revenue came in from a lot of
revenue streams, 34% physical format sales, 50% digital revenues, 14% performance rights, and
2% synchronization revenues. In 2016 the global recorded music market grew by 5.9%, the fastest
growing year since the IFPI started tracking in 2016. However the music industry funds have
decreased by 40% in the last 15 years meaning that there are more illegal streaming of the music,
however with over 100 million legal streaming users globally, this makes us 50% of all global
revenues. Digital revenues grew by 17.7% to 7.8 Billion US Dollars which is guided by the
streaming growth in revenue by 60%, this is the largest growth in 8 years. For the first time
streaming has took up 50% of the total recorded music industry revenues. From the billboard
charts there a few house artists within the top 100. Donald Passman wrote a book called ‘All you
need know about the music business’. In this book he goes on to talk about how music videos in
the 60’s-70’s cost around $15,000-$50,000, However nowadays music videos cost a lot more at
around $20,000-$500,000. I think this has happened due to the inflation of money and also how
music gets a lot more funding these days.
From my research I can see that the house music fans are typically young with a sort of revolutionary side to them. They wear a
lot of bright colours and unique outfits. Some house artists that have a fan base like this are Martin Solvieg, R3HAB and Zedd.
These are artists that perform a lot at festivals where the audience would crowd in front of them with their hands in the air
jumping around etc. The house genre has an audience consisting of male and female of any ethnicity. The outfits I wear like I have
already mentioned are unique and bright, they wear a lot of summer clothing which you would be able to see at festivals etc.
Here are some examples of audiences at house festivals.
This is one of Zedd’s concerts as you can
see the audience is crowded in front of
him with lights and jumping in the air like
a typical house music concert. Here is the
audience for his concert:
This is a R3HAB concert as
you can see they are
jumping up to the music
with mass amount of lights.
As you can see the R3HAB
fans are wearing bright
green colours with hands in
the air:
At his Martin Solveig
concert you can see the
same things as the other
artists, bright colours and
large hyper crowds. The
audience at this concert
are bright coloured and are
young teens feeling
rebellious .
There are many ways that the house music genre lures in their audiences through their music videos. One way in which they do
this is by sometimes showing one of their concerts in their music videos bringing in a large audience as it would make the
audience want to go to one of their concerts once they see how good it looks. There is normally to main messages given out in
house music, the house songs normally give out a message/narrative about young love or about living your life to the full
potential. A song that gives a message about living your life to the full Is ‘The Nights’ By Avicci and a song that gives a message
about young love Is ‘Easy Love’ By sigala. All these songs are of the house genre and are one of the many songs that give these
messages. However some house artists influence hard-core partying such as the artist R3HAB where at his concerts there is
known to have a lot of drugs, I believe this is because his music influences the audience to enjoy themselves a lot and make the
most of life, which in fact makes their life quite dangerous.
