What is a conflict?
Let ask ourselves the following questions:
• How many times are we conflicting with our wives or
husbands ?
• How many times are we conflicting with our close friends?
• How many times are we conflicting with peoples we are
working together in offices?
• How many times are we conflicting with the heads of our
working institutions?

MEANING OF CONFLICT
Conflict is a disagreement or struggle between
two or more individuals or groups that arises from
incompatible goals, values, or interests.
It can take many forms, including verbal
arguments, physical alterations, or even wars
between nations.
Conflict can be destructive and harmful, but it can
also be productive and lead to positive change
when managed effectively.

TYPES OF CONLICTS
According to their sources of emergence
1 Relationship conflict: occur because of the
presence of strong negative emotions,
misconception or miscommunication or repetitive
negative behaviors.
2 Interest conflict: caused by competition over
perceived incompatible needs. Result when one or
more of the parts believe that in order to satisfy his
or her need and interests must sacrificed.
3 Data conflict: occur when people lack information
necessary to make wise decision, or misinformed or
interpreted information differently.

4 Structural conflicts: caused by external forces.
Example limited physical resources, time ( little
or much), and organizational changes.
5 Value conflicts: This caused by perceived or
actual incompatible belief systems. Values are
believes that people use to give meaning of
their lives. It explain what is good or bad , write
or wrong and just or unjust.

Conflict also categorized according to relation parties
(Either individually or grouped)
Intra-personal conflict: this in is the conflict within
individual ( individual him or her self). This can be
caused failure of prioritizing one of the important
issue to one self among more than one alternatives
an individual have.
Inter-personal conflict: this is conflict between
individual having different styles of commutation,
ambitions, political, religious views and different
cultural background.

Intra-group conflict: is conflict within the group of people
or within organization. This can arise from the individuals
differences or ambitions or from competition between dub-
groups.
Inter-group conflict: Conflict between groups of people.
Whenever people form groups, they tend to emphasize the
things that make their group "better than" or "different
from“ other groups. This happens in the fields of sport,
culture, religion and the workplace and can sometimes
change from healthy competition to destructive conflict.

SOURCES OF CONFLICTS
• 1. Differences in Goals and Objectives: Conflicts can arise
when individuals or departments have different goals and
objectives that are not aligned with the overall
organizational goals.
• 2. Scarce Resources: Conflicts can arise when there are
limited resources, such as funding, personnel, or
equipment, and individuals or departments compete for
these resources.
• 3. Communication Breakdown: Conflicts can arise when
there is a breakdown in communication between individuals
or departments, leading to misunderstandings,
misinterpretations, or lack of clarity.

• 4. Power Struggles: Conflicts can arise when there is a
struggle for power or influence within the organization,
leading to competition and conflict between individuals or
departments.
• 5. Organizational Change: Conflicts can arise when there
is a change in the organization's structure, policies, or
procedures, leading to resistance, confusion, or
uncertainty.
• 6. Personality Differences: Conflicts can arise when
individuals have different personalities, values, or beliefs
that clash with each other.
