Atapuerca Archaeological site located in Ibeas de Juarros (Burgos), Spain encloses the history of the last million years of human evolution in Europe. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2000. Excavations at the site began around 20 years ago and have uncovered important human fossil remains, including bones from 32 people dating back 300,000 years before Neanderthals, as well as fossils over 780,000 years old, the oldest European human fossils known.
