Moctezuma was the Aztec ruler of Tenochtitlan, the capital city of the powerful Aztec empire. As ruler, Moctezuma held great religious importance to the Aztec people and lived in a large palace. Archaeological remains of Moctezuma's palace and the Aztec empire can still be found today after the Spanish conquered Mexico and overthrew Moctezuma's rule.
