• Deviation from norm or rationality
• Simplifying information processing
• Adaptive, helps in faster decision making
• May lead to irrational, biased and ineffective
decisions

• Most prevalent
• Interpret facts and situations to suite our
preconceived notions.
• Selective attention to facts and situations.
• Information contradicting our belief system is
ignored.
• Actively seek information supporting our view
of reality.
