INT. HOUSE. LATE AFTERNOON/EARLY EVENING.
Montage: (camera)
Close up of tap dripping. Sound of tap carried out throughout
opening sequence.
In the kitchen of the house, the room is dimly lit by a
single lamp. Dishes are left in piles by the kitchen sink,
food is dried on. In the dining room, there are family photos
(mum incl) in which the frames are cracked, piece of tape
over mum’s face. We see a variety of papers scattered around
BRYNY 18 (describe BRYNY) There are multiple failed exams and
letters of concern written from the school.

INT. BRYNYS ROOM. EVENING.
Shows Bryny in bed, lights off, cluttered room.
CUT TO
Eye-level medium-close-up shot of BRYNY from end of bed.
Shows messages coming through from a mysterious guy, named
user456.
(TEXT MESSAGE)USER456
Everyday it just gets worse. I really
hope you are coping well. You’re so
young. I’m a bit older than you, and
I'm struggling everyday from this
awful grieving.”

BACK TO MEDIUM-CLOSE-UP OF BRYNY REACTION.
Interrupted typing because of dad shouting.
DAD (45) muffled shouting from
downstairs.
DAD
BRYNY. DINNER!
Show BRYNY rolling her eyes, sighing, pulls cover off and
leaves frame.
CUT TO
4 4
INT. DINING ROOM/KITCHEN. DARK WINTER EVENING. TIME SHOWS
7:00PM.
BRYNY enters dining room, and sits at the end of the table.
DAD enters with two pot noodles, places one in of BRYNY, and
sits at a the other end of long dining room table.
LONG SHOT of BRYNY and DAD sat at opposite ends of the table,
both looking at their phones checking for notifications.
Both put phones down, and meet eyes. There is tension in the
air.
Silence fills the room.
BRYNY(AWKWARDLY)
It’s chicken and mushroom, my
favourite.
DAD shuffles in his chair awkwardly not knowing what to say
to his daughter, and picks his phone up again. BRYNY tucks
her hair behind her ear and avoids his gaze.
DAD (ON PHONE)
Yeah.. nice.
The silence is brutal.
BRYNY
It was her favourite as well…
Martin looks up from phone.
DAD (INTERRUPTING)
Don’t.

BRYNY
It’ll be 9 months tomorrow. I-I-was
thinking we could visit her?
DAD
I don’t know Bry. I don’t know if i
want to do that.
short silence.
DAD
With you. It’s too hard.
BRYNY looks down at her noodles, eyes filling with tears.
BRYNY
Why wouldn‘t you? How can you be so
numb to not even want to go somewhere
with me? do you hate me that much?
DAD puts his head down, sighs, and doesn’t respond.
BRYNY
What happened to you?
BRYNY quickly jolts out of her chair and runs out the room.
Camera is on DAD, who is still looking down.
door of BRYNYS room slams in the distance.
DAD sobbing and crying with his head in hands at the table
alone.
CUT TO

EXT. GRAVEYARD. NEXT DAY (MIDDAY) - CLOUDY.
[BRYNY stands infront of the grave for a long moment, she is
completely still and an intense unwavering staring. She seems
to be fighting to control her anger/hurt/rage/ shock ]
BRYNY
come back. please.
her emotions soften slightly
BRYNY
I miss you.

I miss you so much it fucking hurts. I
miss everything. I miss your smile….
how you were always positive when
everything was so shit. I miss your
laugh. I miss how it used to fill the
house..
And now…
her mind wanders for a second before coming back to present.
BRYNY
We were so happy. I miss how happy we
were…and dad . I miss how you made him
laugh and how we used to make fun of
his cooking. I miss your weird exotic
salads and you making me toast every
morning for breakfast. I miss you
taking care of us……taking care of Dad.
He misses you too. I know.
PAUSE
He can’t…he doesn’t…he doesn’t speak
to me mum. It’s like he’s forgotten
I’m a person..that I exist.
He’s just completely gone.
sometimes I miss him more than I miss
you…He needs you. I need you.
So come back. Please.
Her phone dings. She looks at her phone..then looks up
apologetically.
Oh…Uhh….I found this…this…. “grief”
forum. So fucking weird I know…. But
its been good…….you can talk to other
people who’ve also …
[she almost breaks]
…lost someone…..I made a friend. He’s
nice….. Supportive. We talk everyday.
And I really need that right now.

Phone dings again. she smiles slightly before clutching her
phone tightly.
she places flowers down on grave.
BRYNY (WHISPERS)
Love you mum.
walks out of frame.

INT. KITCHEN. LATE EVENING.
Same kitchen table shot as before. Cyclical structure.
BRYNY is sat at the table alone, chewing on toast crusts.
DAD walks into kitchen slowly, with back hunched, and sits at
other end of table.
DAD sighs, and pulls out his phone from his pocket. Proceeds
to look at his phone.
BRYNY looks ups from her empty plate at her dad.
She lingers her stare for a second, and then gets up from her
seat.
She begins to slice some more bread, in the process of making
toast for her father.
BRYNY keeps looking back at him to see if he is looking at
her, which he is not. Eyes still drawn to his phone.
BRYNY’S phone keeps pinging with messages.
BRYNY looks down for a few seconds, looking disappointed,
when the silence is broken when the toast dings out of the
toaster, and BRYNY jumps slightly.
BRYNY walks over to her dad and places the plate in front of
him. DAD looks up at BRYNY for a second, nods his head
slightly, and looks back down at his phone.
BRYNY smiles a little, and returns to her seat at the other
end of the table.
Shot of the two of them head to toe at table.
BRYNY looks at her dad whilst he eats his first slice of
toast. Her phone still pinging whilst her dad is typing on
his phone.

I’m eating dinner with my daughter
now. She made me toast. I cannot even
say thank you. What is wrong with me?
why am I like this?
BRYNY reads message and her face changes.
She looks up at her dad.
BRYNY
Dad?
BRYNY points phone at dad to show messages.
DAD quickly looks up from phone and face drops.
DAD
Bry?
DAD and BRYNY both in shot looking at each other from across
tables.
Silence.
BLACK SCREEN.
