The maps show the relationship between child asthma hospitalization rates and toxic emissions by facilities in Chicago in 2002. Areas with higher hospitalization rates tended to be located near facilities that emitted more air pollutants. However, many factors can influence how air pollution affects health, and more research is needed to definitively connect specific emissions to hospitalization rates due to issues like wind patterns dispersing pollutants.

On 3rd March 2020, NASA released a satellite image of China which shows a drastic drop in the pollution in some Chinese regions, including Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Wuhan. The map shows the level of atmospheric NO2 in the areas before and after the Chinese government imposed quarantine.
It shows the NO2 level over two periods – January 1-20 when the pollution was higher and February 10-25 when the NO2 concentration has almost diminished. The pollution level in these regions generally drops during this time of the year due to Lunar New Year, but the decline has never been so stark. The emission reduction was first evident in and near Wuhan, but then eventually spread across the country.
The effect of air pollution was also observed during the SARS outbreak back in 2003. In China, the probability of the fatality rate was twice as higher in regions with poor quality air than those having good air quality.

ABSTRACT: This ecologic study notes that fetal death rates (FDR) during the Washington DC drinking water “lead crisis” (2000−2004) peaked in 2001 when water lead levels (WLLs) were highest, and were minimized in 2004 after public health interventions were implemented to protect pregnant women. Changes in the DC FDR vs neighboring Baltimore City were correlated to DC WLL (R2 = 0.72). Birth rates in DC also increased versus Baltimore City and versus the United States in 2004−2006, when consumers were protected from high WLLs. The increased births in DC neighborhoods comparing 2004 versus 2001 was correlated to the incidence of lead pipes (R2 = 0.60). DC birth rates from 1999 to 2007 correlated with proxies for maternal blood lead including the geometric mean blood lead in DC children (R2 = 0.68) and the incidence of lead poisoning in children under age 1.3 years (R2 = 0.64). After public health protections were removed in 2006, DC FDR spiked in 2007−2009 versus 2004−2006 (p < 0.05), in a manner consistent with high WLL health risks to consumers arising from partial lead service line replacements, and DC FDR dropped to historically low levels in 2010−2011 after consumers were protected and the PSLR program was terminated. Re-evaluation of a historic construction-related miscarriage cluster in the USA Today Building (1987− 1988), demonstrates that high WLLs from disturbed plumbing were a possible cause. Introduction
Despite being a rising like star in the global economy, China still has many issues needing to be addressed such as political freedom, health care incompetence, environment crisis, etc. Smog is a huge concern in recent years. It is both health-related and environment-related.
On December 8, 2015, Beijing's city government issued its first red alert for pollution. They closed schools and construction sites and restricted the number of cars on the road. Ten days later, the second red alert was issued as the air pollution continued to chock the city sky. The smog problem is not only in Beijing but also has spread over other major cities across the country.
The data set in my study is combined from three data sets (Table 1, 2 & 3) that are retrieved from the National Bureau of Statistics of China, which ensures the quality of the source and data itself. There are no missing values or bad records in the data set. The primary data sets are Ambient Air Quality in Major Cities, Main Pollutant Emission in Waste Gas in Main Cities and Pollutant Emission in Waste Water in Main Cities.
There are a total of 21 variables in the final data set. City name serves as index and year indicates the data collection period. The targeted variable is “Days of Air Quality equal or above Grade II”. Other variables are interests as well such as, “Volume of Consumption Soot Emission”, “Annual Average Concentration of PM10”, etc. First section of data is quantitative data of chemical concentrations and the Air quality. Second section is the measurements of the emission of gas waste and third section is the records of emission of water waste. The emission of water waste might seem little related to the air quality, but it is part of the environment pollution elements. It would be useful when we explore the data in Watson Analytics to confirm that.
Data exploration
To discover all the meanings of the data variables, data exploration of Watson Analytics not only covers all data aspects but also visualizes them. Some suggested questions are good starting point.
The first question examined the volume of consumption soot emission per city. Data visualization (Exploration Figure 1) shows that the City of Harbin has the highest volume of this emission then followed by the capital of China, Beijing. Nanjing is the lowest and similar to cities of Kunming and Fuzhou.
Next question provided the visualization of the living emissions of the cities (Exploration Figure 2). The cities of Shanghai, Chongqing and Guangzhou are the top three. According to the report from the United Nations, these three cities are among the top five most populated cities in China between the years of 2010 – 2015. Therefore, the data evidently shows the high living emissions.
Now, we would like to explore the details of Days of Air Quality equal or above Grade II compared by citie.

Estas diretrizes visam melhorar a qualidade dos cuidados pós-natais essenciais e de rotina prestados às mulheres e aos recém-nascidos, com o objetivo final de melhorar a saúde e o bem-estar materno e neonatal.
Uma “experiência pós-natal positiva” é um resultado importante para todas as mulheres que dão à luz e para os seus recém-nascidos, estabelecendo as bases para a melhoria da saúde e do bem-estar a curto e longo prazo. Uma experiência pós-natal positiva é definida como aquela em que as mulheres, pessoas que gestam, os recém-nascidos, os casais, os pais, os cuidadores e as famílias recebem informação consistente, garantia e apoio de profissionais de saúde motivados; e onde um sistema de saúde flexível e com recursos reconheça as necessidades das mulheres e dos bebês e respeite o seu contexto cultural.
Estas diretrizes consolidadas apresentam algumas recomendações novas e já bem fundamentadas sobre cuidados pós-natais de rotina para mulheres e neonatos que recebem cuidados no pós-parto em unidades de saúde ou na comunidade, independentemente dos recursos disponíveis.
É fornecido um conjunto abrangente de recomendações para cuidados durante o período puerperal, com ênfase nos cuidados essenciais que todas as mulheres e recém-nascidos devem receber, e com a devida atenção à qualidade dos cuidados; isto é, a entrega e a experiência do cuidado recebido. Estas diretrizes atualizam e ampliam as recomendações da OMS de 2014 sobre cuidados pós-natais da mãe e do recém-nascido e complementam as atuais diretrizes da OMS sobre a gestão de complicações pós-natais.
O estabelecimento da amamentação e o manejo das principais intercorrências é contemplada.

Overall life span (LS) was 1671.7±1721.6 days and cumulative 5YS reached 62.4%, 10 years – 50.4%, 20 years – 44.6%. 94 LCP lived more than 5 years without cancer (LS=2958.6±1723.6 days), 22 – more than 10 years (LS=5571±1841.8 days). 67 LCP died because of LC (LS=471.9±344 days). AT significantly improved 5YS (68% vs. 53.7%) (P=0.028 by log-rank test). Cox modeling displayed that 5YS of LCP significantly depended on: N0-N12, T3-4, blood cell circuit, cell ratio factors (ratio between cancer cells-CC and blood cells subpopulations), LC cell dynamics, recalcification time, heparin tolerance, prothrombin index, protein, AT, procedure type (P=0.000-0.031). Neural networks, genetic algorithm selection and bootstrap simulation revealed relationships between 5YS and N0-12 (rank=1), thrombocytes/CC (rank=2), segmented neutrophils/CC (3), eosinophils/CC (4), erythrocytes/CC (5), healthy cells/CC (6), lymphocytes/CC (7), stick neutrophils/CC (8), leucocytes/CC (9), monocytes/CC (10). Correct prediction of 5YS was 100% by neural networks computing (error=0.000; area under ROC curve=1.0).

These pollutants have many adverse impacts on the health of urban residents such as high rate of asthma, and respiratory issues. The maps show a widespread relationship between child asthma hospitalization rate and the location and amount of emission by facilities in the city of Chicago. So far, this negative impact of the pollution is not equally distributed across the city as we look a the hospitalization rate disparity across census tracks. Usually the population that live in proximity to the pollution sources, and most impacted are from lower social class; which raises the issue of environmental justice. Unfortunately, we can not make a definitive conclusion based on the visual inspection of the two maps. There are many factors that can affect chemical reaction of the pollutants such season, their direction and traveling extent can also be stirred by the wind. This makes it hard to clearly define the population that is vulnerable, thus more studies need to be conducted with the application of better methodology for us to give a final answer on the relationship between child asthma hospitalization rate and facilities emitting air pollutants in Chicago.
