Asthma is a long-term lung disease that causes inflammation and narrowing of the airways, resulting in chest tightness, shortness of breath, and coughing or wheezing. It is caused by allergens, irritants, infections, weather changes, and strong emotions, and affects both the respiratory and immune systems by making breathing difficult and causing the immune system to overreact. While asthma cannot be cured, medications like inhalers can help control it and reduce symptoms.
