 The tower rises 300
meters tall (984 feet);
when it was
completed.
 It was twice as high as
the Washing Monument at
the time the tallest
structure in the world.
 Eiffel Tower would be tallest

would form the basis
for the construction
of the Eiffel Tower.
 He was also known
for the construction of
the statue of liberty’s iron
framework.
Why was EIFFELTOWER
built.???
 The Eiffel Tower was
built as an entrance arch
for World Exhibition

construction
technology.
 The Tower was
opened 6th May
1889.
Aesthetics
Aesthetics of EIFFEL
TOWER include
following main points.
1. STRUCTURE
2. USE OF GEOMETRY
3. DESIGN FEATURES
4. USE OF ARCHES
5. USE OF EIFFEL TOWER
STRUCTURE
 The structure of Eiffel
tower is a framework.
 The tower is built of
puddled iron (very pure
structural iron),
and weights 7300
metric tons. It is
extremely light.
 The four pillars
supporting the
tower are aligned to the
points of the compass.
Cont.…
 It stands on four lattice- grinder
piers that taper inwards
and join to form a
single large vertical
tower.
 The tower leans very slightly
in bright sunlight, as one
side is heated by the
sun and expands
slightly.
 Construction started
28 January 1887
 Completed 15 March 1889
USE OF
GEOMETRY
 Shapes of the Eiffel
Tower
The Eiffel Tower is very similar
to the geometric shape of a
four sided pyramid.
 At the base, there are four large
half circles, one on each side of
the tower.
 Throughout the structure,
there are hundreds of triangles and
parallelograms.
 The railings also form
perfect rectangles.
Cont.…
Triangles in the
Eiffel tower
The Eiffel Tower has
exactly 186 triangles in it.
 These triangles give this
massive structure great
strength.
 Each triangle has a
specific purpose to help
hold the 10,000 tons
in which this great
tower weighs.
DESIGN FEATURES
Design features
include:
 Elements used:
SHAPES, LINES
 The Eiffel tower
with its estimated
5 billion lights
shinning on it.
Cont.…
 In order to give the
appearance of
uniform colour the
paint used is graduated in tone, it
is lighter at the
bottom, getting
darker toward the
top.
 Periodically the colour of
the paint is changed; as of
2013 it is bronze
coloured.
USE OF ARCHES
 The Eiffel Tower has
four semi-circular
arches at the towers
base.
 The only non-structural elements
are the four decorative grillwork
arches.
 They served to make
the structure look more
substantial, and to make
a more impressive entrance to
the Exposition.
USE OF EIFFEL TOWER
Uses of Eiffel Tower are:
 Both radio and television stations
broadcast their signals from the
top of the Eiffel Tower..
 It’s the main tourist attraction of
PARIS.
 It offers educational tours of the
tower for children and
tourists.
Cont.…
The tower has three
platforms:
 A restaurant (extremely
expensive; reservations
absolutely necessary).
 The Jules Verne is on the
second platform.
 The top platform has a
bar, souvenir shop, and the
(recently restored) office of
Gustave Eiffel.
 From its platforms -
especially the topmost -
the view upon Paris is
superb. FIRST PLATFORM
