This project has two parts to complete in order to obtain full credit. The final project for this course is the creation of a conceptual model for an integrated afterschool childhood prevention, education, or intervention program (Boys and Girls Club, for example). The program serves a wide range of age groups (ages 4 through 17) and demographic backgrounds. Students should design a program that can appropriately address the needs of the various learners. Students also have the opportunity to review an organization’s objectives and goals and the key functional areas within the organization. Design a practical, doable program evaluation or policy analysis. Write your plan as if you were writing it to submit to a program manager in either a public sector or non-profit organization. Remember: you do NOT actually have to perform the evaluation. You merely have to design a plan for it. Your plan document should be approximately 15 to 20 pages in length.

Guidelines for Preparing a Practical, Implementable Program Evaluation Design
The evaluation design is expected to include the following features:
1. It needs to be practical, that is, suited to the program that is being targeted for the evaluation. There are always constraints on designing and conducting actual program evaluations, and your design should be sensitive to the organizational, measurement, cost and time constraints that are part of the evaluation background.
No one research design, or measurement methodology or program structure will fit a variety of evaluation settings. You will need to adapt the tools learned in the course to fit the situation you have focused on.
2. It needs to exhibit characteristics that make it a quality evaluation design. We will discuss and you will read about different criteria for recognizing high quality evaluations.
One criterion we will discuss is defensibility. Essentially, a defensible evaluation (and an evaluation design) is one that withstands criticism. Criticism can be directed at different points in the evaluation process.
The most obvious target of criticism is the methodology of the evaluation. Issues like the appropriateness of the evaluation design(s), the nature (and existence) of comparison groups, the measures used, the statistics used (if appropriate), the interpretation of the analyses are all examples of targets for methodological criticism.
There are other targets for criticism that are less obvious. They include the accuracy of the program logic model, the appropriateness of the evaluation questions that guide the program evaluation, the readability of the report when it is written, the dissemination of the results, including the realism and appropriateness of the recommendations,.

Project Overview and Timeline
The Individual Project Assignments in this course are designed to provide you with a
practical understanding of project management activities in a health care organization.
In each of these three Assignments you have the option of interviewing an individual
who has managed real-life projects about selected aspects related to project
management, or you may choose to write a scholarly paper in which you draw insights
from published articles describing organizations’ experiences in health care information
technology projects. Either of these experiences will help you develop a first-hand
understanding of project management challenges and strategies within one or more
organizations.
The Individual Project Assignments are woven throughout the course and aligned with
course content. For each experience, the completion of a written Assignment aligned to
one of the following experiences is required:
Interview: Interview an individual with project management experience in an
organization of your choosing about one or more designated topics.
OR
Scholarly Paper: Examine a minimum of three organizations that have published
descriptions about a health care information technology project.
Tips and Guidelines
Interview
As you conduct an interview, note your observations, thoughts, and insights regarding
the individual’s roles and functions and how they are carried out. For each individual
interview, address the questions provided in the Topics and Questions section (in Week
2, Week 5, and Week 7) of this document. Keep in mind, though, that responses to the
questions represent the minimum amount of information required in the paper. You are
encouraged to explore the questions fully with thought-provoking follow-up questions.
Your paper should include the individual’s responses to your questions, and—after
some reflection—your analysis of the interviewee’s responses. Write the first draft of
your paper immediately following the interview so all of the information is fresh in your
mind. As you write, reflect upon the topics covered in this course, and synthesize your
knowledge of those topics with what you discussed during the interview.

Course Description
(For students majoring in both science and nonscience disciplines.) A survey of the mechanisms of disease and their expression in major
organ systems of the human body. The goal is to use scientific reasoning to make informed decisions about matters related to human biology
and health. Topics include infections, cancer, heart disease, lung disease, diabetes, stroke, malnutrition, poisoning by environmental toxins,
stress, inflammation, disorders of the immune system, and aging. Emphasis is on analysis of factors that cause disruption of healthy body
functions, leading to disease, and on prevention of disease through control of risk factors and early detection. Students may receive credit for
only one of the following courses: BIOL 301 or BIOL 398H.
Course Introduction
Human Health and Disease is an upper-level science course. You will learn about the human body and its structural components and
mechanisms that help the body maintain optimal working order. We will explore the relationship between the body's structure (anatomy) and
function (physiology), learning how the body works when it is healthy and what happens when it is affected by a disease.
We will learn to distinguish between healthy and diseased function of the various levels of organization in the body starting from the smallest
living units?cells?and moving on to tissues, organs, and organ systems. We will discuss how the coordination of metabolic activities at each
level benefits the body and explore how all parts of the body work together to maintain a stable internal environment that allows the body to
function properly within set limits.
We will then discuss general categories of diseases caused by pathogens, genetic defects, and environmental factors, and learn how a single
disease agent affects not just one organ, but ultimately causes disruption in the body's homeostasis. We will also explore diagnostic

Students also have the opportunity to review an organization’s objectives and goals and the key functional areas within the organization. Design a practical, doable program evaluation or policy analysis. Write your plan as if you were writing it to submit to a program manager in either a public sector or non-profit organization. Remember: you do NOT actually have to perform the evaluation. You merely have to design a plan for it. Your plan document should be approximately 15 to 20 pages in length.
Proposal for your Analysis/Evaluation Plan
As part of Module 2, you are required to submit a one or two page proposal outlining the program or policy you wish to use as the basis for your analysis/evaluation plan. Guidelines for Preparing a Practical, Implementable Program Evaluation Design
The evaluation design is expected to include the following features:
1. It needs to be practical, that is, suited to the program that is being targeted for the evaluation. There are always constraints on designing and conducting actual program evaluations, and your design should be sensitive to the organizational, measurement, cost and time constraints that are part of the evaluation background.
No one research design, or measurement methodology or program structure will fit a variety of evaluation settings. You will need to adapt the tools learned in the course to fit the situation you have focused on.
2. It needs to exhibit characteristics that make it a quality evaluation design. We will discuss and you will read about different criteria for recognizing high quality evaluations.
One criterion we will discuss is defensibility. Essentially, a defensible evaluation (and an evaluation design) is one that withstands criticism. Criticism can be directed at different points in the evaluation process.
The most obvious target of criticism is the methodology of the evaluation. Issues like the appropriateness of the evaluation design(s), the nature (and existence) of comparison groups, the measures used, the statistics used (if appropriate), the interpretation of the analyses are all examples of targets for methodological criticism.
There are other targets for criticism that are less obvious. They include the accuracy of the program logic model, the appropriateness of the evaluation questions that guide the program evaluation, the readability of the report when it is written, the dissemination of the results, including the realism and appropriateness of the recommendations,.

Project Overview and Timeline
The Individual Project Assignments in this course are designed to provide you with a
practical understanding of project management activities in a health care organization.
In each of these three Assignments you have the option of interviewing an individual
who has managed real-life projects about selected aspects related to project
management, or you may choose to write a scholarly paper in which you draw insights
from published articles describing organizations’ experiences in health care information
technology projects. Either of these experiences will help you develop a first-hand
understanding of project management challenges and strategies within one or more
organizations.
The Individual Project Assignments are woven throughout the course and aligned with
course content. For each experience, the completion of a written Assignment aligned to
one of the following experiences is required:
Interview: Interview an individual with project management experience in an
organization of your choosing about one or more designated topics.
OR
Scholarly Paper: Examine a minimum of three organizations that have published
descriptions about a health care information technology project.
Tips and Guidelines
Interview
As you conduct an interview, note your observations, thoughts, and insights regarding
the individual’s roles and functions and how they are carried out. For each individual
interview, address the questions provided in the Topics and Questions section (in Week
2, Week 5, and Week 7) of this document. Keep in mind, though, that responses to the
questions represent the minimum amount of information required in the paper. You are
encouraged to explore the questions fully with thought-provoking follow-up questions.
Your paper should include the individual’s responses to your questions, and—after
some reflection—your analysis of the interviewee’s responses. Write the first draft of
your paper immediately following the interview so all of the information is fresh in your
mind. As you write, reflect upon the topics covered in this course, and synthesize your
knowledge of those topics with what you discussed during the interview.

Human Health and Disease is an upper-level science course. You will learn about the human body and its structural components and

· What constitutes American music? (The first thought that comes to my mind when I ask this question is that if there were a true American music, it would have to be that of the American Indians who were the original inhabitants of this part of the world. This is true but as we all know, the European settlers savagely repressed the Native Americans and so little of their music was absorbed into the Euro/American culture.)
It is impossible to answer this question without considering the effect of African traditions on our musical heritage. Consider this quote from the Czech composer Antonin Dvorak, who spent several years in the United States teaching and conducting concerts of his own music:
“I am now satisfied that the future music of this country must be founded upon what are called "negro melodies". This must be the real foundation of any serious and original school of composition to be developed in the United States."
He was correct of course but I doubt he could ever have imagined the direction and diversity that school of composition would take. The "negro melodies" he was referring to are Negro Spirituals, work songs, field "hollers" and other such styles that developed in the South during the years of slavery. These songs are a blend of European musical traditions and African influences and are unique to the United States. They are rooted in the African American experience of slavery and the continuing struggle for freedom but if you think they are primarily political in that sense or racially exclusive, consider another quote for Dvorak:
"In the Negro melodies of America I discover all that is needed for a great and noble school of music. They are pathetic, tender, passionate, melancholy, solemn, religious, bold, merry, gay or what you will. It is music that suits itself to any mood or any purpose. There is nothing in the whole age of composition that cannot be supplied with themes from this source."
These "Negro melodies"- Spirituals, work songs, ragtime and the blues- are in fact at the heart of what American music has become. Everything from popular songs to jazz to "rock and roll" owe something to the style and energy of these songs.

In the context of the nature versus nurture controversy, nature means one’s genetic inheritance of traits such as intelligence, physical characteristics, and personality tendencies (Vander Zanden, Crandell, & Crandell, 2009). Nurture means the influence of environment, including parenting, schooling, physical environment, culture, and other factors (Vander Zanden et al., 2009). In the past, social scientists and others argued which factor—nature or nurture —was responsible in a given situation, but it is more common today to ask either how much is due to nature versus nurture, or how they interact (Vander Zanden et al., 2009). Vander Zanden et al. (2009) therefore characterize the current nature versus nurture controversy as asking either how or how much, rather than which.
While there are many theories that address the nature-nurture controversy, behaviorism most closely represents my view. If a person is raised in an environment that does not support educational activities, that person is unlikely to become a physicist, even if he or she was born with the intelligence traits of an Einstein. University, had been searching systematically for a way to participate in the growth of
retailing on the Internet. After considering a number of alternatives, he settled on the
idea of establishing an online bookstore.
Overview
Amazon.com was founded in Seattle, Washington in July 1994 with an initial
investment of $10,000 by Bezos. The entire first year of the venture’s existence was
devoted to development of infrastructure: designing the website, establishing relations
with distributors, developing software to manage book orders and deliveries, designing a
search engine, and developing the software to manage the cash flow of the venture. For
the most part, development efforts were performed by Bezos, himself.
Amazon.com opened for business on the Internet in July 1995, billing itself as
“Earth’s Biggest Bookstore.” The Company offers over 2.5 million titles, including most
of the 1.5 million of the English-language titles currently in print. By contrast, even the
largest traditional bookstore does not carry more than 175,000 titles in inventory.

This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in

This project has two parts to complete in order to obtain full credit. Part 1: Assessment Considerations Chart In this part of the Project, you will examine specific components of communication that are typically assessed when evaluating the communication skills of a child with autism. A communication assessment for a child with ASD often includes looking at: joint attention, symbol use, communicative intent, expressive and receptive language, and social skills. You will analyze the purpose of assessing each of these components of communication, as well as both formal and informal assessment tools and techniques that can be utilized when evaluating these specific components.
