We’ll also discuss ways different personalities can work together. We’ll talk a little about some productivity tools and software but the main focus is on understanding your work style.

His insight is that real world experience and hands-on practice matter most for education and entrepreneurship, more so than the theoretical learning of school. Formal education provides a foundation, but experience is the best teacher.

Modeling allows us to work with abstraction as tangible objects; it brings physicality to language, decisions, and conceptual relationships that make up and underpin the ecosystems we work with. It allows us to analyze and collaborate more efficiently, with less effort and distraction. It is especially valuable for:
- Discovering and defining “why” we should do something and “what” we should do before jumping into “how” we should do it
- Untangling complex concepts in order to explain something to yourself

- Grappling with abstract and quantitative data and their intersections

You are not your user - EdSurge Immersion 2019
“You are not your user” is a common adage in the world of product and design, and is particularly true when building products for K-12 schools. In the fall of 2019, I gave a talk at EdSurge Immersion on my favorite “you are not your user” insights from five years of working in edtech.
Dt
The student created an electronics storage box as part of a Memphis Project for their Design Technology class. They researched the Memphis style and incorporated colors and designs inspired by Memphis designs into their project. The student enjoyed the process of researching, designing, and creating their project, and learned about different tools, techniques, and colors. They reflected that the Design Technology class helped them learn important skills and that they would like to continue taking the class next year.
Cmp induction project
This document summarizes Chelsea Kierans' induction project for developing study skills at CERTA L2. It includes tasks such as research on optical art using web sources and images by artist Bridget Riley, idea generation for a poster individually and in a group, planning and scheduling, poster production, and evaluation. Chelsea found it challenging to find an appropriate background for the poster and to use Photoshop again after forgetting skills, but was able to solve these problems. Feedback from her tutor helped improve the poster. Chelsea learns best visually and kinesthetically by seeing examples and doing hands-on work.
Evaluation
Millie Southall completed a project on the theme of illusion. She created collage artworks of natural places that were edited using Adobe Aero to create an augmented reality effect. The goal was to show that there is more than meets the eye in natural settings. While the project provided an opportunity to develop graphic design skills, challenges included a lack of understanding of the initial brief and difficulties coordinating group work. In the future, Millie plans to improve her time management and ensure a full understanding of project requirements.

When the interior design team presented their restaurant design, professors said the engineering team's product concept of a self-reliant table did not fit and could make users feel isolated. The engineering team needs to reconsider their concept to better match the design. They will wait to receive the real product idea and may need to learn new technologies.

The majority of students enjoyed the online learning environment for this course. They appreciated the flexibility to work at their own pace and from home. A few students mentioned specific challenges with certain technical concepts but overall feedback was positive about the online format.
Presentation training session at HELCOM
This document summarizes a presentation training session that was held to discuss improving presentation skills. The session was divided into three parts: 1) an activity where participants defined characteristics of a good presentation by writing ideas on post-its, 2) a discussion of basic tips for preparing presentations such as considering the audience and telling a story with a clear beginning, middle, and end, and 3) examples of how to design presentation slides better by reducing clutter. There will be a follow up session focused on designing slides in PowerPoint.

A data warehouse is a central relational database that contains all measurements about a business or an organisation.
