- ETAD 803 Assignment 1: Instructional Message Design Using Text
- Greetings! This presentation will take you through the steps of building an e-Portfolio to showcase your learning or teaching materials. Google Sites is one of several platforms that work well for building e-Portfolios. Others include Wordpress, Wix, and Weebly.
- You must have a Google Account before you can set up a Google Site. Use an existing Google Account if you have one, or create a new one if necessary. More directions are available on each of these sites if you need more assistance.
- Assets that you want to share on your Google Site need to be uploaded to Google Drive first. Now that you have a Google Account, you can use Google Drive. Files such as Word documents, Powerpoint files, or images might make good additions to your e-Portfolio. Don’t worry if you forget something, as you can repeat this later if you have more files to share. If you are a Mac user, use Control-click instead of Right-clicking.
- The Google Site editor will open in a new window after you select “in new Sites.”

- You may wish to have multiples pages for your e-portfolio that show, as examples, “Lesson Plans,” “Unit Plans,” “Assessments,” etc.
- The steps of adding an additional page can be repeated as necessary until you have all of the pages that you need.
- Adding text boxes is necessary to provide annotations, context, and reflective statements for the files you add to your portfolio.
- Explore the button options available to see how you can edit the font style, appearance, or position of an element on the page.
- The files you choose to add could be Word documents, Powerpoint files, images, or anything else that Google Drive will allow you to store.
- The files you previously added to your Google Drive should appear within the picker. Explore the button options available to see how you can edit the size of an element or its position on a page.
- Keep building and editing your portfolio until it contains all of the pieces you desire. Move onto Part IV when satisfied.
- Your site’s URL will begin with https://sites.google.com/view/... which you can see within the “Site location” field, and you add an addendum to create a unique URL, such as https://sites.google.com/view/myeportfolio. You may use lowercase letters, numbers, or dashes within your URL. A red warning message will appear if someone else has already taken that URL.
- You may have to enable pop-ups for your site to open properly in a new window.
- Returning to the editor will allow you to make any changes or unpublish your site.
