Q.1 what are differences among journal’s research article, newspaper/magazine’s
articles and case study?

Ans

Journal Research Article

Journal research Article is specialized, scholarly publication
written by authorities in the field.

Magazine Research Article

Magazine research Article are commercial publication intended for a general, popular audience
for the purpose of informing and entertaining.

CASE STUDY

A detailed analysis focusing on a particular problem of an individual, group, or an organization.
A process or record of research into the development of a particular person, group, or situation
over a period of time:

Q.2 Explain briefly; article, journal, and database. Also write down at least five
journal’s names of your related area (marketing, HR, finance etc.) and names of
 any five databases.

Ans

ARTICLE

An article is a significant item published in a journal covered by Journal Citation Reports®.
Editorials, letters, news items, and meeting abstracts are usually not counted as articles because
they are not generally cited. The Articles column in the table you see on the Journal Summary
page or Journal page counts research articles, review articles, notes, and corrections/retractions.

                                                                                             2
[BUSINESS RESEARCH METHOD] MR. Abid Awan

Articles and Reviews are counted separately in the Journal Source Data section of the Journal
page.

JOURNAL

Journals are collection of articles that are published on a regular basis to report current research
within a discipline.

DATABASES

A database is a collection of information that is organized so that it can easily be accessed,
managed, and updated. In one view, databases can be classified according to types of content:
bibliographic, full-text, numeric, and images.

[BUSINESS RESEARCH METHOD] MR. Abid Awan

Q.3 What is difference among citation, reference, and bibliography?

Ans

Citation- means the act of citing, or a passage quoted, a commendation, to express favorable
opinion.

Reference-means the act of referring to an event, a note or other indication in a book, compare,
recommendation or testimonial as of character.

A bibliography is a collection of references. A reference would be one book or article, for
example. A bibliography would be a list of books and articles.

The difference between References and a Bibliography is that a reference has been cited in the
text, whereas a bibliography lists other useful sources, which haven't been cited. A typical
example of a bibliography would be the "Further Reading" sections typically found in
undergraduate textbooks

Q.4 What is impact factor? Also explain with example how journal’s impact
factor is calculated.

Ans

IMPACT FACTOR

The impact factor is one of these; it is a measure of the frequency with which the "average
article" in a journal has been cited in a particular year or period.

The impact factor of a journal is calculated by dividing the number of current year citations to
the source items published in that journal during the previous two years.

                                                                                           4
[BUSINESS RESEARCH METHOD] MR. Abid Awan

Example impact factor calculation for Journal of clinical immunoassay:

Journal of clinical immunoassay 1995 1996 1997
Citations to papers published in year 34 32 9
Number of papers published in year 71 72 68

Q.5

What are the parameters to check the credibility of a research article?

ANS

Quality: the aggregate of quality ratings for individual studies, predicated on the extent
to which bias was minimized in the study designs
Quantity: the number of studies, the sample size, the study design's statistical power to
detect meaningful effects, and magnitude of the effects found or the effect size
Consistency: for any given topic, the extent to which similar findings are reported using
       similar and different study designs

                                                                                           5
