3. Conditional Formatting
in MS Excel
Excel’s conditional formatting lets you change the appearance of a cell based on its
value or another cell's value.
Steps of using Conditional Formatting:
1. Select the cells to which you want to apply conditional formatting.
2. On the Home tab, in the Styles group, click the Conditional Formatting button.
3. Choose the rule you want to apply or make new rule.
4. Puzzle game in Excel
This is activity where we are creating an interactive
game for elementary school students challenging them
to answer on questions from certain subject. If they
type in the correct answer a tile will reveal part of a
picture. If they type in the incorrect answer the part of
the picture will not be revealed.
6. Making a puzzle in MS Excel (1)
Steps:
1. Insert a Background Picture:

questions;
6. Adding Questions to Worksheet;

color.

We will present a very simple game for students in primary school. This game is ease to make using MS Excel. It’s a puzzle game suitable for evaluation and also preparation on students for the class. I’m sure that some of you know how to make this game.
We want to start our presentation with this game. We prepared several questions for you, which answers will reveal a picture, that I spouse you will recognize.
But I’m sure you already know that when we make this game for primary students we must use some suitable questions based on the subject for which we are preparing this game. So let’s start!
Now we will continue with our presentation. For making this puzzle we used Highlight cells rules to mark if the answer is correct or wrong, and New rule for resolving a puzzle.
If the answer is correct the cell with answer will color itself in green, and if the answer is wrong the cell will become red.
So, first of all we must have as many questions as the parts of puzzle. The questions we are electing are based on the subject in which we test students knowledge, or evaluate them or give an introduction to the following lesson.
Form Page Layout tab we choose Background and find the picture we need. Picture will appear tiled, repeating itself in the background. But we are choosing just first to format.
Changing Width and Height of columns we are actually setting the numbers of the puzzle parts and also the number of the questions.
We are adding fill to the entire worksheet by clicking in the top left hand corner of the worksheet and then choose fill color.
For the better look we can put frame to our puzzle.
Below the puzzle-picture we are choosing as many rows as questions, format them by merging cells and input questions.
It will be best if the answers are after every question.
Then the New formatting rule window will open. From the first list we suppose to chose the last rule: Use a formula to determinate which cells to format.
In the second submenu we should write a formula, i.e.(id est.) to the cell for the answer on first question we are giving true value.
Next click on Format… and another window will open. There suppose to choose Fill- No Color- OK.
This is formatting just for the first piece of the puzzle. On the same way we are formatting all pieces of the puzzle.
Maybe this is too easy for you, so to make it a little more interesting think of the questions which will entertain all of us, or maybe to teach us something new, and when you are ready - share with us. Also share it in dropbox.
We want to thank you for your attention and we hope that this was entertaining for all of you.
