2. What are LEDS?
• LEDs (light–emitting diodes), are
semiconductor devices that produce
visible light when an electrical
current is passed through them.
• Solid State Lighting (SSL), organic
light–emitting diodes (OLEDs) and
light–emitting polymers (LEPs) are
different types of LEDs

3. How is LED lighting different than
other light sources, such as
incandescent and CFL?
• LED lighting differs from incandescent and
compact fluorescent lighting in several ways.
When designed well, LED lighting can be more
efficient, durable, versatile and longer lasting.
• LED lighting products use light emitting diodes
to produce light very efficiently. An electrical
current passed through semiconductor material
illuminates the tiny light sources we call LEDs.
The heat produced is absorbed into a heat sink.

4. • Common LED colors include amber, red,
green, and blue. There is actually no such
thing as a “white” LED.
• To get white light the kind we use for lighting
our homes and offices, different color LEDs
are mixed or covered with a phosphor
material that converts the color of the light.
• The phosphor is the yellow material you can
see on some LED products. Colored LEDs are
widely used as signal lights and indicator
lights, like the power button on a computer.

7. Watts of electricity used
(equivalent to 60 watt

LEDs use less power
(watts) per unit of light
generated
(lumens). LEDs help
reduce greenhouse gas
emissions from power
plants and lower
electric bills

28. Benefits of LED Lighting
Energy Efficient
A standard 50W halogen lamp turns
90% of electricity used into heat with
only 10% into light. The benefit of LED
Lights are that they use only 15% of
the energy a standard halogen uses,
provide up to 85% of the light output
and create less heat making them so
cool to touch

29. Benefits of LED Lighting
Long Life Span
LED Lights have the benefit of a super
long life span of up to 80,000 hours
which means you can cut maintenance
costs as the lamps last up to 8-10
times longer than standard halogen
lamps making them an ideal
replacement.

30. Benefits of LED Lighting
Improved Durability
LED's have no filaments so can withstand
a greater intensity of vibration and shock
than standard lights making them durable
with less risk of breaking and need to
replace.
Compact Size
LED Light bulbs can be as small as 2mm
making them ideal for fitting into hard to
reach and compact areas.

31. Benefits of LED Lighting
Fast Switching
LED Lights will start at full brightness, instantly, every
time, therefore there is no need for backup lighting.
LED Lights are a benefit because they switch on and
off instantly making them ideal for flashing signs,
traffic signaling and automotive lights, compared to
standard compact fluorescent lights which fade in and
out or flicker.
Color
LED lights are offered in a variety of base colors such
as Red, Green, Blue and Amber. Because traditional
incandescent light bulbs use filters to produce colors,
they are extremely inefficient. LEDS can be blended
together to produce millions of color options.

32. Benefits of LED Lighting
Safety
Most LED lights operate at low voltage so are cool
to touch and much safer to handle during
installation and maintenance and can be exposed
to rain, snow and dust.
Environmentally Friendly
The benefit of LED Lights is that they are an eco-
friendly form of lighting as they do not contain
mercury or other harmful gasses or emit any
harmful UV rays. For example, a 13w LED light
emits 68% less CO2 than a standard 40w
incandescent bulb running 10 hours per day.
