The document contains a student's photography project documenting their experiments with different photography techniques to capture nature, movement, weather, and the passage of time over multiple images. The student took pictures of things like flowers, fire, wind turbines, sunsets, food, raindrops and a cookie being eaten to show the effects of time. They also experimented with black and white filters, time lapses, low and high angle shots, and zoom lenses. The overall project aimed to creatively document the natural world and how it changes over time through a series of photographs.

Vietnam’s Tech Boom A look inside Southeast Asia’s Silicon Valley.Hán Văn Thắng
More than four decades after choppers lifted the last U.S. troops back
across the world, Vietnam’s Da Nang Hi-Tech Park hums with
activity. The park, one of several established as part of Vietnam’s
2020 IT Master Plan, houses offices and factories for a growing number of
international IT and software companies, hardware manufacturers, and
infrastructure plants powering the central Vietnamese city at the heart of a
tech boom.
Today’s Vietnam—with a population of over 93.5 million and a median age
of 30.3 years old—is defined by a growing population of young coders,
engineers, entrepreneurs, and students driving economic growth and
technological innovation. For them, the country’s war-torn past is a history
lesson, not a memory.

2. I chose to do nature because I
wanted to capture the world
around us like flowers and things
that we don’t appreciate as much
as we should. I like taking pictures
of flowers because you get to see
the intricate detail of them,
especially when the sun is shining.
However, I like it when it rains and
the petals of flowers have little rain
droplets on them.
3. I find watching fire very interesting, watching a candle burn
which is very atmospheric. Also, incense burning is very
pretty especially the smoke that is produced and looks like
it is dancing such as in photo (1). When you light a match
on a black background you see all the intricate detail of the
flame, e.g. the blue flame and the yellow flame.
4. I wanted to capture movement, one
second in time that shows an object that is
moving. For example, I like photos of cars
moving on a busy street (1) because they
go blurry which shows movement. Also, I
like pictures of wind turbines moving
because they look like this (2 & 3) when
you take a photo of them.
5. I love weather especially the rain, the most
powerful photos are often the simplest
ones such as this photo (1) a raindrop
hanging off a leaf or a splash of rain hitting
a puddle. I really like sunsets because the
sky goes beautiful colours like in this photo
(2) where the colour of the sun has lit up
the clouds, sky and the water.
6. Food is a weird subject to pick and you don’t normally see photos of
food so I thought I’d be unique and do something different. Photos of
food can look very nice if you put them in a picturesque setting, for
example in this photo (1) the apple is on wet grass which gives the
photo a fantasy feel to it like it could be the apple in Snow White and
the seven dwarfs.
7. Nature – The denotations of his photograph
demonstrates a time lapse of five pictures that have
been taken over a certain amount of time to
symbolize movement and the passage of time. I think
the meaning behind the image is that everything
eventually comes to an end and when it does you
Fire – The image is of candles in glass bottles hanging in a tree. It
focuses on the first three candles in the foreground and the other
ones aren’t in focus because they are in the background. The
lighting is quote dull and the only really bright things in the image
are the candles. The image is in black and white which denotes
that the photographer has edited the image. Using encoding the
photographer focused in on the front candles to which denotes
that they wanted them to see the candles as a symbol that
represents something to them. The connotations of the image
would be that the guiding light, in the distance the candles are
blurred suggesting that that’s in the pas and there's always
something to look forward to – a brighter light.
want to remember the last few precious moments that you have before it’s gone forever.
It connects to my work because it comes under the nature and movement category. This
photograph is featured on a science website. The strengths of the photograph is the time
lapse editing which makes it look like the one image.
8. Movement – The clouds make the
image seem like it is a painting because
they look like fluid brush strokes. The
photographer used encoding to make
the image look like it was a certain
moment in time that the image was
taken in. This is because the windmills
would have been moving. The black
and white effect of the image makes
the photograph look more dramatic
and makes you not want to be there
because it gives off quite a sinister feel
to it. The clouds represent the
windmills moving and also highlights
the fact that they are moving out of
sync which gives makes the
photograph seem chromatic.
Weather – Paris is the city
of love and the reflection
of the Eiffel Tower gives
the impression that there
are two sides to a
relationship, they keep
each other upright and
rely on each other. The
denotations of the image
are that it has been taken
in Paris where it has just
recently rained which
could connote sadness
and regret. The fact that it is in black and white could
suggest that it was a while ago before digital SLRs were
invented or the photographer wanted us to decode
that it is supposed to look like an old photograph. The
reflection of the Eiffel Tower has been cleverly used as
the foreground of the image whereas the actual
sculpture is in the background which could highlight
the importance of the reflection and how it is essential
for it to be there.
9. Food – The denotations of this
image are four pears that are all
different shapes and sizes which
would suggest that everyone is
equal no matter what you look
like. The fact that the image is in
black and white could suggest
that the photographer is trying to
make the image look authentic
and arty. It gives off an arty
impression for example, you could
find it on an art poster or gallery.
The main subject of the
photograph are the four pears
that are lined up against a wall in
the foreground of the image. The stalks of the pears are all pointing to different directions
which could suggest that the pears are representing people who don’t want to be there,
are getting agitated and want to move on and do bigger and better things. In life people
are made to do things that they don’t want to do and this image could be an example of
that. I like the black and white effect that has been added to the image because it makes
things stand out more such as the shadows of the pears and the different shades and
shapes on the pears. In my opinion when you look at a black and white photograph you
see more than when you look at a normal image in colour.

11. I took these photos to experiment
with nature, e.g. I took photos of
trees which I liked because they
reminded me of perspective shots
which I like. I also like close ups, by
zooming in, of flowers because you
get to see the complex detail that
makes up a flower.
12. These photos show fire and smoke
and show that time has passed, e.g.
the match is this picture (1) is
completely on fire which shows that
time has passed. Also, in these
pictures (2 & 3)
13. I took these photos to
convey movement, I
especially like the
photos of the guitar
and metronome
because the strings and
silver strip of metal are
blurry which look cool. I
especially like this
photo (1) because, the
guitar is in focus but
the string that is
moving is blurry as well
as the background
which is out of focus.
14. I took these photos of St Peter and Paul’s church outside my
house because it makes a nice photograph and when it gets
dark the church lights come one which makes the photos and
look spooky and it makes it clear that time has passed. I like
taking day to night shots because I like how the light slowly
changes and how the clouds move – it’s very interesting. I
used a standard lens and kept the camera steady. I tilted the
camera upwards so I could see the whole of the church in the
photo. I didn’t edit them because I like them how they are.
15. I really like these
photos of rain
droplets of leaves,
especially these
photos (1 & 2)
because, they camera
is focused on the rain
droplets that are
hanging onto the
leaves and the
background are blurry
and out of focus.
16. I took these photos of a cookie being slowly eaten, as you move along the
photos a bite is taken out of the cookie until there is not cookie left which is
shown in the last photo. I like these series of photos because they clearly show
that time has passed.
17. I experimented with a black and white effect, this is my
favourite effect because it makes detailed features of photos
stand out. For example, on this photo (1) the flower tree trunk
really stand out against a dark background of leaves and
branches. On sky/cloud photos the white clouds really stand
out against a grey sky. Also, the effect makes it more dramatic,
e.g. This photo (2) looks very sinister like it could be used on a
horror poster or a establishing shot in a horror film.

18. I experimented with
my weather/outside
photos by creating a
time lapse. I did this
by cropping each
image so that only a
long strip of each
one was visible. This
created the effect
that I wanted and
made it clearly
visible that time had
passed between the
images. If I were to
do this again I would
keep taking photos
till the sun rose so
that I could take a 12
hour time lapse. I
couldn’t do that this
time around because
it was a school night.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TM7EJZ-8HWw
19. I experimented with a yellow filter which created a
summery effect. It would look nice in a woodland
setting with the dappled sunlight. The filter lens that I
used only had half of it tinted which was helpful
because I could clearly see the difference that it made. I
don’t like the photo of the clouds/sky because it looks
unnatural and I don’t think the colours go. Also, I like
the natural white/grey/colours of the sky.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7f8eAyFawCk
20. I used low angle shots to take these photos
by taking them with the camera
underneath the chosen object. I like low
angle shots of flowers because they include
the sky, especially in this photo (1) because
you can see the dappled sky mixed shining
through the spaces in the leaves. I prefer
low angle shots to high angle shots when
taking photos of hanging flowers or plants
because they make it more realistic and
they include the sky,

WiyQ
21. I took these photos by holding my
camera above the chosen object. I
learnt that high angles shots are good
for taking photos of flowers because
they enable you to take a photo of the
intricate detail of flowers. However, they
don’t include the sky, on a sunny day
the blue sky would enhance the photo
of a close up of a flower.
22. I experimented with the zoom lens
on my camera and I decided that I
like close up photos because the
object that the camera is focusing
on is very sharp and clear and the
background is blurry which makes a
cool effect on the photo.
This photo was taken with the lens zoomed
out at the furthest it will go. I did this
because I wanted to include as many plants
as possible and also so I could decide
whether I wanted to focus on zooming out
or in when taking photos.
