1. Characters in ‘Annabelle’
For our trailer to be appropriate, it must contain similar aspects
to real media products (trailers). As for this a recent horror film
which has came out is the film called ‘Annabelle’ which is based
around a doll and a couple who are faced against supernatural
elements.
I will now present my research into the types of characters
present in the film trailer for the film. The characters chosen are
stereotypical characters which are commonly seen in the horror
genre.
2. Female victim
Stereotypically the victims are commonly females in the horror genre
and this is present in the film ‘Annabelle’.
Mia
• Hair = She has blonde hair which the stereotypical hair colour for
victims, similarly shown in Scream and Paranormal activity. This is
commonly chose as the stereotype for blondes are that they are not
smart and easily clumsy so they are easy targets to be manipulated.
The colour blonde is also a bright colour which can attract others
and entice them.
• Age = She is of mid age and classed as a woman. This is also
common in horror films such as The Conjuring. A possible reason
could be that they are typically stressed individuals who make easy
targets and stereotypically females are weak and easy to fool.
3. Female victim
Mia
• Clothes = Multiple times we see Mia she is dressed in the colour
blue. This could have been chosen to reveal something about the
character’s personality traits. As the colour is blue, some possible
personality traits could be that she is weak, innocent and naive. The
colour blue is also the stereotypical favourite colour of the male and
as males are usually the villains in horror movies, the colour blue
could attract them.
• Make-up = The character wears quite minimal make-up which is
common in victims in the horror genre. A possible reason for this
could be that it reflects the mood and feeling of the character as they
feel bare and empty after what they have experienced.
4. Hero
When it comes to male characters, they are the dominant characters
which can cause them to be the strong hero or the frightening villain.
In this film, the two male characters have hero type qualities

• Hair = The male character has short neat hair which represents
that typically male characters are stern and understand the level of
danger that is present.
• Age = Similar to the female characters, the men are also mid age
which in contrast to female characters is an advantage to the male
character. This is because the male characters use their knowledge
and power to fight against the villain to become the hero.
5. Hero

• Clothes = The clothes that male stereotypically wear are usually
normal clothes for example their work clothes. This is used in
horror films so the realism remains in the film which is present in
this film.
I will take into consideration the types of characters and how they are
presented from this film when deciding on our characters.
