Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2. History of Horror
The first horror movie was a silent short film that lasted 2
minutes in 1896 “Le Manior du Diable’. Not only was it the
first ever horror but it was also the first ever vampire film.
Although the film lasted 2 minutes audiences loved it. The
director (George Mèliès) took pleasure in giving the public
more and more horrors to watch. In the 1950’s the horror
budget rose significantly, the public fascinations with
horrors soon lead to a series of supernatural themed
gruesome horror films. The Exorcist (1973) broke all the
records for horror films and still is, even today it is still said
to be on of the most feared horror films to ever be
watched by audiences across the globe.
Carrie originally a book wrote by Stephan King was then
turned into a film in 1976 the film is about a girl who has
demonic powers. Her mother is religious and locks her in a
closet with a crucifix on the door and tells her to pray
constantly, Carrie is bullied at school because of the way
she looks, she eventually gets asked to prom of one of the
popular kids and gets elected prom queen. Little does she
know that when she's up on the stage she's going to get a
bucket of pigs blood dropped over her head she then uses
her demonic powers to get her own back.
3. Iconography
• Clothes are often torn and dirty.
• If the killer is in the horror then they are some
times wearing things to disguise themselves for
example masks.
• Michael Myers in Halloween wears a boiler
suite and white mask.
• Weapons are often used such as bloody
knives, guns, clubs and general household
objects.
4. Setting
• Can be set daytime or night but the
action in the horror movies
traditionally occur at night.
• Often set in dark creepy places, for
example old abandoned buildings in the
middle of no-where, they tend to be
damaged and run down.
• The setting of the film creates a mood, if
someone was murdered
it wouldn't have the same impact on the
audience as if they were shot in the
nighttime.
• Examples of locations are; Old
mines, Derelict houses, Fields, House in
a normal
neighborhood, Forest, Sorority house, U
niversity grounds, Schools, Old farm
houses, Butchers, Lakes, The
countryside.
5. Characters
• Ghouls, Monsters, Zombies, Murd
erers, Psychiatric
patients, Mentally
disturbed, Convicts, and Animals.
• The dumb character that gets
killed at the very beginning to
provide entertainment.
• The clever character that figures
out all the clues and escapes
the clutches of the killer.
• Always a main character/ group
of characters that are hunted
down by the killer.
• The rescuer- who helps out.
• The girl who gets to the end and
defeats the killer.
6. Theme
• Social themes in the horror genre
are consistently similar there is
almost a cause of conflict between
the two character types.
• The general themes in horror
consist of: Slasher (Halloween
1978), Vampire (Van Helsing
2004), Zombie (Shaun of the Dead
1978), Demonic possession
(The Exorcist 1973), Alien mind
control (Alien 1986), Evil children
(The Orphanage
2007), Physiological horror
(Texas Chainsaw Massacre
2003), Animals Attacking Humans
(Jaws 1975), werewolves ( Trick 'r
Treat 2007) etc.
7. Narrative
• Horror is based upon conflict and
dilemma the main characters
endure. From the main set of
characters, several character types
are chosen the hero/heroin, the
evil monster, and the supporting
characters. Horror addresses the
viewer with the exception that the
viewer will identify the hero.
8. Style
In horror films music creates tension in
the film. For example in jeepers creepers
they play a song every time the killer.
These songs normally contain horns or
sting instruments when something is
going to happen, in jeepers creepers the
song comes on when there in the car and
there is a police car escorting them one
of the officers in the police car then hear
something on top of the car one gets
pulled out of the window and killed and
the other gets pulled through the roof of
the car and gets there head ripped off.
This kind of sound in horror films is
common and every time you hear this
sound you know something is going to
happen. A long deep tone in horror films
can indicate tension, stress or panic.
