Employment Policy Impact
Introduction When I woke up for middle school one Spring morning, my mom gave me news that
would forever change my life. She told me that my dad, a New York Police Department police officer,
had gotten into a car accident pursuing a perpetrator during a high speed chase. I didn t comprehend
the severity of her words until I visited him in the hospital a few days later and learned that he wouldn
t be able to walk properly, if at all, ever again. On the day I learned that my dad had a serious
disability, I would honor him and his sacrifice by fighting for people with disabilities, but I wasn t
quite sure how. Upon taking this Disability and Employment Policy, I began to understand the impact
that disability and employment policy would have on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the ADA, the ADAAA veers away from a focus on whether the individual seeking the law s protection

whether the covered entity has actually discriminated. The ADAAA also changes the way that the
statutory terms should be interpreted, indicating a substantial evolution of the legislation (Benfer,

In Zimbabwe We Don T Cry For Lion Analysis
In Zimbabwe, We Don t Cry for Lions Doctoral student in molecular and cellular biosciences at Wake
Forest University, Goodwell Nzou, in his opinion piece, In Zimbabwe, We Don t Cry for Lions,
effectively claims that Americans are not making a feasible claim when they are over expressing their
feeling about Cecil s death, when in fact lions are harmful and kill villagers. He supports this claim
asserting American are over exaggerating Cecil s death and are acting like this has never happened
before. Nzou uses rhetorical questions and sarcasm to appeal to pathos when stating, Did all those
Americans signing petitions understand that lions actually kill people? That all the talk about Cecil
being beloved or a local favorite was media hype? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author uses pathos to get people to feel sympathy for the family in the village who lost their son
when he got mauled by a lion. This quote greatly supports the author s purpose for writing this article.
Finally he supports this claim asserting people are too ignorant to make a feasible claim about the
situation. He uses diction and parallel structure to appeal to pathos when stating, Don t tell us what to
do with our animals when you allow your own mountain lions to be hunted to near extinction in the
eastern United States. Don t bemoan the clear cutting of our forest when you turn yours into concrete
jungles. The author uses parallel structure when repeating, Don t to emphasise his overall point. He
also uses diction to assert his claim when he uses the words, extinction, bemoan, and concrete jungles
. He specifically used these words to get us to feel the injustice about how the Americans are acting
about Cecil s death. Overall, Nzou combines his condemnatory and critical tone with these appeals to
effectively point out to the people who are crying about Cecil s death that lions are harmful to people
and killing lions happens all the time in the area. This article would be informative to the public who
are outraged about Cecil s death and

The Ethics And Integrity Of Two Research Articles
This assignment will analyze the ethics and integrity of two research articles. The first article, Social
Networking and Professional Ethics: Client Searches, Informed Consent, and Disclosure (Harris,
Robinson Kurpius, 2014). The second article, Child Rights as a Framework for Advancing
Professional Standards for Practice, Ethics, and Professional Development in School Psychology
(Nastasi and Naser, 2014). The standards and key portions of the American Psychological Association
(APA) Code of Ethics (2010) of each article will be identified. Issues of ethics and integrity as they
apply to scholarly research and practice will be discussed. In conclusion, new understanding and
insight gained from the two articles will be described.
First, the standards and key portions of the APA (2010) Code of Ethics identified by each article are
described. Both articles demonstrated the practice of scholarly writing by applying the APA (2010)
Code of Ethics. Specifically, APA (2010) sections 8.11 Plagiarism, 8.12 Publication Credit and 8.13
Duplicate Publication of Data were applied via APA formatting and style in the composing of the
articles.
Harris and Robinson Kurpius (2014) present specific references to the APA (2010) Code of Ethics.

How Did American Culture Change Over Time
Over the past several centuries the world has changed in a countless number of ways. From
colonialism to slavery, the industrial revolution to the World Wars, and the modern day technological
boom, America in particular has often been right in the middle of all of the transformations. Amongst
these changes certain movements also began to rise up especially in the arts, sciences, and politics.
One such movement, romanticism, emphasized emotions, abstract thought, and individual self. On the
other hand, an opposite movement known as neoclassicism, or sometimes just classicism, emphasized
a more old school approach to life. For example, things like reason and rationality, etiquette, and
science were mainly focused on. Moving into today modern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This includes healthcare, immigration, and basic human rights. After the most recent presidential
election many people that associate themselves with LBGTQ+ in any way have been sought out by
others wishing to cause them harm, or even kill them. Although it has been hundreds of years since
Lafayette s novel the times have unfortunately not changed much. The princess was afraid to come
forward and express her love for the Duke just like people who identify as gay or lesbian, among
many others, are today. In fact sometime after her publication of the Princess of Cleves it was
discovered that Lafayette was most likely writing about the rule under Louis XIV, but she stated
Henry II instead so she would not be caught and possible executed. It is in this way that even though
certain aspects of our society is changing the world today is still very much classicist, and stuck in
their traditional old school ways of life. Another example of this classicist view can be seen in Karl
Marx s writings on communism. Karl Marx if one of the biggest influencers on the modern world. His
writings shaped countless world events and people. One could argue he had profound effects on both
Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin with things coming to blow in the Cold War. Before the horrific events
like the Holocaust cast a shadow on the 20th century Marx was busy formulating

The Epic Of Beowulf As An Epic Hero
The whole earth is the tomb of heroic men and their story is not given only on stone over their clay but
abides everywhere without visible symbol woven into the stuff of other men s lives, said Perculus
(PR). You re born, you live a little, and then you die. There is no simpler way to sum up life. Often
times this is done through oral tales, paintings, and various other ways. For those whose lives were
truly something great, something memorable, their stories are transcripted into writings. Whether
these are simple biographies or symbolic fictional works, stories are often based on someone greater
than the writer. These epic heros are protagonists that fulfill their potential of greatness through using
their bravery, strength and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think they should be done because you ought to do them. In this story Arthur believed that people
should not help others because they are capable of doing so, but rather because it s the right thing to
do. In the interpretation of the classic King Arthur story, Arthur focused primarily on the lack of
humility in the world and how he (along with Merlyn) can fix it. In a more classic take on the King
Arthur story, Le Morte d Arthur offers a better insight on the physical traits that makes one an epic
hero. Upon the failure of a treaty between the Arthur and Mordred, an epic battle took place that
would decide the fate of the Christian both men stood upon. During this battle Arthur bravely led his
men into battle, single handedly defeating dozens of Mordred s knights. To conclude the battle Arthur
fought Mordred one on one, defeating him with a deadly blow to the chest beneath Mordred s shield.
Though Arthur was gravely wounded, he regretted nothing as he knew what he had done would better
future generations of people. Evil had been vanquished and Arthur was truly an epic hero. A hero is
someone who, in spite of weakness, doubt or not always knowing the answers, goes ahead and
overcomes anyway, said Christopher Reeve (CR). A countless number of people wish to be
remembered upon their death, however, very few are remembered much past their death. Those who
are though often did an enormous amount of significant things in

The Importance Of The Brady Doctrine
The Brady Doctrine governs all criminal trials which are a state, and federal in deterring prosecutorial
misconduct (Hall, 2015). I strongly agree with the importance of this doctrine. It allows constitutional
laws to uphold the disclosure of information without violating one s due process right. This piece of
philosophical evidence grants reasonable probability to be permissible in a court of law which might
exonerate a defendant. The Brady doctrine is a pretrial discovery rule that was established by the
United States Supreme Court in Brady v. Maryland in 1963 in favor of a defendant (Hall, 2015). The
doctrine required that prosecutors must turn over all exculpatory evidence to the defendant in a
criminal case in order to prove their innocence.

Critical Narrative And Story Telling Style
English 2201 helped me discover not only myself as a writer, but allowed me to go more in depth with
learning how to write in the field of my intended discipline. This is the first specific English class I
have taken that focused on the style of writing I will need to be familiar in the future with. Because of
that fact, I defiantly enjoyed this class. I feel like my knowledge and ability to navigate the writing
techniques of my major have improved and my in text citations skills have improved greatly. Overall
this course opened my eyes to the many different styles there are in the field of Communications,
which is my intended field of study, and how to use these styles correctly and efficiently. I learned an
array of new things with every paper and project we participated in. Our first project was a critical
narrative styled paper. Personally when it comes to writing, I prefer the critical narrative and story
telling style because I enjoy putting my creative mind to work. It is easier for me to write down
exactly what I am thinking, rather than writing research papers with sources to go off of. So, I
extremely enjoyed the first project. The main element I can take away from writing the Category 1:
Writing in the Field assignment was how to conduct a proper interview. I interviewed Marc Morriston,
who is the head of marketing at WNCT News here in Greenville. I conducted the interview based off
of what we learned in class and I ended up making connections that I can use in

Text Messaging Affecting Literacy
Outline
Introduction
Text messaging has become a very popular way to communicate for teenagers and it seems to be
altering the literacy of teens and also affecting the way they speak.
Text messaging has lead to many teenagers to become iliterate. With more teens resorting to texts and
emails to communicate with others the literacy is changing over time.
The impact that text messaging has on literacy of teens is important because the generations will
slowly become more reliant on the texting slang. As the literacy decreases due to the texts and emails
each generation will slowly create a new view of what literacy is.
Literacy is affected by different aspects of texting. The things that effect it include the access texting
gives you to autocorrect, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Teenagers use texting as their main way to communicate which forces away face to face talking and
the requirement of using the correct way to read write and speak.
The way teenagers speak such as saying acronyms in conversations and abbreviations for words out
loud is proof that the grammar used to text is affecting the words we use for communication.
Speaking to people of importance or even just a family friend would require you to have literacy skills
so that they can understand what you are saying but the generations to come may form a new thought
of the requirements of what literacy is.
Conclusion
It is becoming evident that the way teenagers read write and speak is being impacted by the
percentages rising of the numbers of text messages that are being sent by teens daily.
The use of autocorrect that allows teens to not have to know how to correctly spell, cyber slang, and
also the way texting creates a barrier from how they speak are all affecting the literacy that is needed

Tokyo A Dystopian
The film portrays Tokyo after the destruction caused by World War III. Tokyo has now turned into neo
Tokyo, a dystopian society built from the ruins. In just thirty years the government has managed to
help build the economy up, allowing the city to prosper. With all of this progress and prosperity, the
people have become self centered, making a social and economic gap. The gap has grown so
significant that the wealthy cling to what money they have and those on the bottom suffer with
nothing. There does not seem to be much help from city officials, as well. They only focus on their
own advancement, which causes problems for the citizens. Riots occur in the streets and gangs are
becoming more violent resulting in terrorizing the good citizens. ... Show more content on

Comparing The Hobbit And The Lord Of The Rings
How can an author write a story which appeals to a present day audience? Richard H. Tyre published
an article in 1978 that gives an answer to this very question. Tyre explains how most kids today
choose to read books like the Harry Potter series, The Lord of the Rings series, and even The Wizard
of Oz. An existing theory that Tyre came up with explains that each of these books, along with many
others, have one thing in common: 6 plot elements. Not only do these stories contain the same 6
elements but those elements are in the same order! Tyre states that (1) those who hunt for treasure, (2)
must go alone, (3) at night, (4) and when they find it, (5) they must leave some of their blood behind,
(6) and the treasure is never what they expected. (Tyre 2). J.R.R. Tolkien is the author of The Hobbit.
The Hobbit revolves around one hobbit in particular named Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo embarks on a
journey with 14 others to recover a treasure that is guarded by a dragon. Along the way Bilbo faces
many challenges that range from running into huge trolls, to taking part in fierce battles. Due to it s
main character hunting for treasure, facing most of the dangers alone, battling during the wee hours of
the night, eventually finding the treasure, after sweating/crying/and enduring injuries, just to have the
treasure revealed to him as not what he expected, J.R.R. Tolkien s The Hobbit is undoubtedly a perfect
example of Tyre s 6 plot elements.
For the first element those who hunt for

Advantages Of Nationalisation In Business
For years, nationalisation has been a prohibited subject within British economies and politics.
However, Jeremy Corbyn s economic project has been concentrated around nationalisation. One of
Corbyn s arguments has been that, national ownership of particular businesses can, promote long term
development of the economy, help to acquire a renovating infrastructure and also provide a quality
health and social care system. Furthermore, with the use of examples from around the world, Corbyn
attempts to illustrate that the state is an ineffective manager, and also indicate the positive
contributions of national ownership. Furthermore, in the UK, national state ownership has previously
been too centralised, with authority in the hands of a private and commercial elite, which promotes
Adam Smith s ideology. This is portrayed when he said, Avarice overrates the difference between
poverty and riches: ambition, that between a private and a public station... , demonstrating that
entrepreneurs drive economies and that their profits are a reward for their own risk, with this being the
Just World theory. In addition, the ideology of Freidrich A. Hayek is also supported by this, and is
illustrated when he said, The more the state plans the more difficult planning is for the individual ,
indicating that the state is exploiting and alienating the population of the UK. Therefore, to improve
national ownership in the UK, measures have to be taken in order to increase the democratic

A Proposal For A Legalization Of Abortion
Executive Summary The purpose of this policy paper is to address the egregious violation of rights
that Ireland has submitted it s citizens to by outlawing abortion procedures. This proposal calls
primarily for a decriminalization of abortion and for the government to examine the religiosity of both
Ireland s political administration and the cultural view of abortion. The 2013 Protection of Life During
Pregnancy Act fails to protect the maternal health of woman and is failing due to the vagueness in
language and inconsistency in implementation. That being said, the source of the problem lies in the
Eight Amendment of the Bunreacht na hÉireann, the Irish Constitution, that defends that a fetus is an

Women can experience serious, life threatening, and sometimes fatal complications during a

dangerous pregnancy constitutes as an act by of severe pain or suffering, whether physical or mental

by the The Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women, specifically
Article 16.1; The Right to Decide the Number and Spacing of Children (CEDAW). In December of
1985 Ireland acceded the Convention. Although Ireland did not ratify CEDAW and the document is
not legally binding, adhering to these human rights norms is an expectation that is on place on all the
UN Member States. By criminalizing abortion Ireland violates these basic human rights and infringes

abortion was prohibited. Recently in 2013, the Irish government sought to try and appease critiques of

The Great Influence Of Manual Work
1 INTRODUCTION The importance of the sense of touch can significantly be seen in jobs that are
often done manually. Workers such as hairdressers, bricklayers, carpenters, doctors, plumbers,
archaeologists and butchers all rely on the sense of touch to perform their jobs well. These professions
make high use of the kinesthetic and tactile abilities to perceive how their work is being done by using
the perception of texture, characteristics or properties of the material. The great influence of manual
work is quite noticeable in the day to day, and state of the art technology is being incorporated as a
result. Nowadays, many machines have taken the place of people to do processes and increase
production, which makes the sense of touch lose some of its dominance in daily work [1]. Haptics was
introduced in the twentieth century in the field of experimental psychology. Its main objective was the
understanding and manipulation of the sense of touch. Psychophysical experiments were conducted to
assist in the understanding of contact between human and machine. For example, advanced studies
showed that the tactile qualities of environmental structures are much more complex than visual.
Robotic systems meant an important step to unravel the puzzles on the sense of touch, such as
teleoperation and telepresence. These two were the main precursors for the revolution in the study of
haptics [2]. A new bridge between man and computer is being created from the improvement of
haptics

The National Institute Of Neurological Disorders And...
The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke defines dementia as: word for a group of
symptoms caused by disorders that affect the brain. It is not a specific disease. People with dementia
may not be able to think well enough to do normal activities, such as getting dressed or eating. They
may lose their ability to solve problems or control their emotions. Their personalities may change.
They may become agitated or see things that are not there. (Health, 2014).This essay is going to
discuss and explore what dementia is and the four main types of dementia which includes Alzheimer s
Disease, Vascular Dementia, Frontotemporal Dementia and Lewy Body Dementia. Then it explores
the physiology changes in different types and the signs and symptoms of dementia. This effect can
change the life of people having dementia to suffer in physical issues, social isolation and mental
illness. Next, it discusses how environmental changes and music therapy strategies work in dementia.
Lastly, the supports that Alzheimer s Australia and Emmy Monash Aged Care can provide. (Bleiler
2011). Dementia cannot be classified as one specific disease as it is associated with many different
types of diseases. Several different forms of dementia exist, with four of the most common including
Alzheimer s disease, Vascular Dementia, Frontotemporal Dementia and Lewy Body Dementia.
Alzheimer s disease named after a German physician, Alois Alzheimer, who first described it in 1906.

Parents In Finding Nemo
In Finding Nemo, the two characters the movie is about are very special. In a way, I can connect with
the character Nemo because our parents are similar. Marlin, Nemo s dad, is overprotective and doesn t
want to let his son go. Marlin has good reason to want to be overprotective as well though,
considering the tragic loss he went through at the beginning of the movie, losing his wife and all of his
kids except for one. I understand why Nemo is so upset about his dad not letting him do anything
because my parents have been stricter with me than some parents I know. I used to have a fairly early
curfew and they weren t ready to let me go completely. My mom is especially like this because when
she was younger both of her parents were kind of disconnected

Referring to Examples, Discuss the Factors That Cause...
There are many different factors that can cause power to shift between superpowers over time such as:
resources, population, and economics, military and cultural. Superpowers are define as: the capacity to
project dominating power and influence anyway in the world, sometimes in more than one region of
the globe at a time.
At the beginning of the twentieth century, the British Empire was the biggest global superpower. The
British became a superpower during this time due to colonial rule. From colonisation they gained
economically from the cheap raw materials. Maintaining colonial rule depended on military power.
But when Britain started to decolonise its Empires they lost the title of a superpower. This was due to :

China is an example of an emerging superpower; its economy has doubled in size every eight years
since 1980. Since 2000, China has been the largest recipient of overseas investment, and now foreign
owned companies . 60% of the world trade since 2004 has been as a result of Chinas industrialisation.
So here we can see that China has developed due to industrialisation, which has increased its power.
China use to be a low income country, so we can see from a low income country to an emerging
superpower how powers can shift over time due to many factors that influence the world. However
even though China is an emerging superpower, it has come with some cost to the environment for
example China has 16 of the top 20 most air polluted cities in the world. The polluted air was blamed
for over 4000 000 premature deaths in 2003.
Russia re emerging as a global power, due to its natural gas and is the second largest oil producer after
Saudi Arabia. Due to Chinese and Indian economies have led huge demand for energy and increased
global energy prices. Russia now sees itself as an energy superpower. So we can see that Russia is
trying to emerge as a superpower with the increasing need for energy. This can have an affect in
changing superpower, for example the USA depends largely on Russia for its energy and if Russia
stops supplying it to the US they will have problems, which many lead them into not being a
superpower anymore.

most people use everyday without knowing who created them. Everything that Jobs created, he did

believed in all of his products and innovations he sold to people, and had faith in the people he worked

Whilst Apple was in a state of decline, Jobs started up a new computer company called NeXT, and
purchased the computer graphics division of Lucasfilms, Pixar, from George Lucas for $10 million
and started making commercials. Jobs contracted a deal with Disney for five feature films, the first
Toy Story, was a hit and brought fame to Pixar when it was released in 1995 with Jobs as an executive
producer. When the Disney contract was running out Jobs and Michael Eisner (then CEO of Disney)
failed to negotiate a new contract with Disney while Pixar s marketing director Pamela Kerwin
believed that Jobs had the brains, energy, and chutzpah to protect Pixar s interest. He enabled us to
negotiate as equals, (2). With NeXT, Jobs perused computer perfection along with an obsession for
aesthetic perfection, focusing on every little detail of the computers appearance. Eventually, Jobs
obsession placed strain on the company s hardware department and NeXT stopped producing
computers and commenced a full transition to software development. Alan Deutschman emphasizes
that Jobs was described as a control freak , egomaniac , and fearsome tyrant (2). It was this obsession
with aesthetic perfection that Jobs carried over into Apple when he was brought back, and gave
Americans the famous iThings.

David Mamet is an American playwright born in 1947, having the additional titles as an essayist,
screenwriter, and film director. Mamet has written several plays, including Speed the Plow, China
Doll, The Shawl, and Faustus, and succeeded in a movie adaptation of his play Glengarry Glen Ross
in 1992. He grew up in Chicago, Illinois until he relocated outside the city, living with his parents that
later divorced until he moved. His sister Lynn admitted their home life was cruel, influencing anger to
be present in Mamet s work (Editors). In relation to his work, other themes of his work include:
relationships (deception, loyalty, etc.), success and failure, and speech mannerisms (persuasion and
alike). Other attributes of Mamet s work include intricate dialogue and characters with individualized
mannerisms; for example: Mamet believes that people speak what they are influenced by. Mamet was
influence most by Samuel Beckett, Harold Pinter, Lanford Wilson, and Bertolt Brecht, beginning his
unique use of dramatic language (Whatley 12).
As for his play American Buffalo, the following themes are present: business, loyalty, friendship, and
ethics. In 1972, the infamous Watergate Scandal occurred; the importance of this event can tie in with
American Buffalo s creation. President Nixon s time in office compelled him to resolve conflicts he
deemed just, however Americans lost their trust in Nixon after the Watergate Scandal happened. In the

Shell s sustainable development strategy takes a long term and short term approach which ensures that
economics, environment and social considerations are implemented within its decision making
process (Report2010, 2010).
This report will define sustainability, give an overview of sustainability, discuss Shell s strategic
approach to sustainability, review three sustainable issues, discuss theories and models used to
evaluate Shell s response to sustainability, recommend what Shell could do to become a sustainable
business and lastly will draw its conclusion.
Definition of Sustainability
The introduction of the term sustainable into the political language came about in a report titled The
limits to growth in 1972 by the Club of Rome. Club of Rome was an international association which
consisted of scientists, business executives, public officials and scholars. Sustainable is defined by the
writers as a model of output that represents a sustainable world system which does not have a dynamic
collapse. It is able to meet the basic material requirements that are needed by the environment
(Meadows et al, 1972).
However, the term sustainability has several definitions. One, being the ability of people and
organisations to preserve the remaining natural resources and use these resources wisely in order to
sustain an environmentally healthy future. The

Should The Federal Government Continue Funding Planned...
Should the Federal Government continue funding Planned Parenthood? Planned Parenthood is an
organization that has been around since at least 1921. Recently, it has been in the limelight due to the
on going Presidential debates leading up to the 2016 election. It appears that the Republicans want to
take away all federal funding to shut down the clinics where as the democrats believe that the
republicans are misguided in their claims. The Planned Parenthood Federation of America is a non
profit organization, funded by the Federal Government, in which it provides reproductive/maternal
health services among the United States as well as internationally, since 1952. In recent news
developments, there have been rumors that Planned Parenthood practices inhumane procedures when
aborting an unborn baby to harvest their organs and that a law should be passed to stop this. The
supporters for Planned Parenthood claim that these claims are unfounded and believe that Planned
Parenthood is a wonderful association that helps women and men all around the world. This issue has
caused a series of debates that have been going on for years, but Planned Parenthood still lives on.
This current debate whether Planned Parenthood should be funded by the Federal Government is a hot
issue in the current election. It has become, not only a nationwide issue, but also worldwide where
people from all around the world are able to put in their input on the argument. There are many people

Fracture Hematoma Research Paper
A fracture occurs when there is a break in a bone. It can usually be healed, so long as portions of the
blood supply, periosteum, and endosteum are still intact. A fractured bone undergoes repair through a
series of four steps.
The first step in bone fracture repair is the formation of a hematoma. When blood vessels within the
bone tear, they hemorrhage. This results in the formation of a clot at the site of the break. Thus, a
fracture hematoma is formed, stopping the flow of blood into the fracture site which, in turn, cause
swelling.
Capillaries then grow into the fracture hematoma, while phagocytes start to clean up the dead cells
within the injury site. The fracture hematoma becomes more organized into a procallus. Fibroblasts

The Hero s Journey in Modern Film Essay
Countless quest narratives ranging from modern texts all the way back to ancient texts have all
conformed to a certain archetypal structure. Christopher Vogler writes:
All stories consist of a few common structural elements found universally in myths, fairy tales,
dreams, and movies. They are known collectively as The Hero s Journey. Understanding these
elements and their use in modern writing is the object of our quest. Used wisely, these ancient tools of
the storytellers craft still have tremendous power to heal our people and make the world a better place
(xxvii).
Being one of the world s most popular art forms, it was inevitable that these archetypes would find
their way into film as well. In this essay I will argue that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However, since the hero is part of society, the journey is also one of personal development. On a more
psychological level, one could suggest that the hero s quest is symbolic of all personal conflict.
Conflict begins when a problem arises that must be dealt with. Most people, at first, refuse to come to
terms with whatever this problem may be, and attempt to ignore it. With enough mental determination
and/or aid from an outside source, however, one can bring themselves to cross the first threshold, and
begin their journey into the heart of the problem. For example, victims of rape or other types of abuse
must face what is haunting them in order for it to be exorcised properly.
In the beginning of any narrative that follows a monomythical structure, a reluctant hero is called to
adventure. In Pulp Fiction, this hero is Jules Winnfield. Jules is called to adventure when Marcellus
Wallace instructs him and Vincent to collect his briefcase from Brett s apartment. Interestingly
enough, this occurs before the film even begins, as we are first introduced to Jules and Vincent in
medias res as they make their way to the apartment. Usually the next stage is supernatural aid, where
the hero receives help with their journey by some otherworldly force, but Tarantino chooses to switch
this stage places with the first threshold. The first threshold is when the hero faces a threshold

Baroque Music And The Baroque Era
Baroque music began in Italy and it spread to all other parts of Europe. The musical characters in the
baroque era pursued interests in subjectivity of the observers and created a deep human feeling while

works done by Michelangelo. One of the pieces of art was campidoglio on the hill capitalino. The

Discrimination against African Americans in The Invisible Man
In the 1950s African Americans were treated unfairly and discriminated against. During the post civil
war time tensions were still high, the discrimination and separation between the blacks and whites was
still prevalent. Discrimination is portrayed through Jim Crow laws, which affected every African
American tremendously, the narrator s experience at the Battle Royal, and the narrator s transition
from the black college to New York and The Brotherhood. In the Invisible Man, Ellison utilizes
characterization to represent the division between whites and blacks in America in the 1950s.

Before the fighting the white women were presented as the forbidden fruit. The Battle Royal incident
showed the white women being paraded before the black boys as something to look at, to admire, and
to desire, but not to touch (Sistrunk Krakue 1). Sistrunk Krakue describes the white women in the
novel as royalty, like prized possessions, as if this was a once in a lifetime opportunity to see these
women. These women are presented as dreams because the description includes admiration, desire,
but something they can t actually attain. The white women show division of social classes because
they looked around with their impersonal eyes (Ellison 19). The eyes give away the fact that the
women don t even acknowledge anyone around them, they are just doing what they re order to do by
the wealthy white men. Sistrunk Krakue s idea of dreaminess and royalty of the white women places
them on an entirely different social platform, one that would be an impossible feat for a black boy.
This judgment of the white women further explains the disrespect that blacks receive in society and
how they re judged in most every facet of life.
Within Invisible Man, judgment of races is a commonplace in society, Ellison exemplifies this point
by starting the novel with a presentation of judgment between races. The town s privileged white men

The Catcher in the Rye Character Analysis of Holden Caufield
In J.D. Salinger s novel The Catcher in the Rye, the main character, Holden Caufield, describes in
detail the parts of his life and his environment that bother him the most. He faces these problems with
a kind of naivety that prevents him from fully understanding why it is that he is so depressed. His life
revolves around his problems, and he seems helpless in evading them. Among others, Holden finds
himself facing the issues of acceptance of death, growing up, and his own self destructiveness.
One of the hardships Holden must cope with is his inability to come to terms with death, in particular
that of his younger brother, Allie. Holden seems to have experienced a ... Show more content on

one of the few things he likes about life.
Yet another demon that Holden avoids is the process of having to grow up. Throughout the book, he
seems hesitant to develop any real ambitions or goals. He is a perpetual failure at school. He refuses to
associate himself with mature ways of living, and so isolates himself from anyone his own age or
older. This is all directly connected to Holden s picture perfect image of his childhood. He sees this
particular period of his life as his own personal paradise. He does not want to finalize the fact that he
has to concede it s innocence in the end. Towards the end of the book, Holden shows his desire for life
to remain as it was by saying, ...certain things should stay the way they are. You ought to be able to
stick them in one of those big glass cases and just leave them alone. Holden does not want to join a
world of phonies and greed, a world lacking in carelessness and irresponsibility. He won t, whether
consciously or not, accept the fact that he has no choice.

that time I was mad because I just loved to play and hated sitting but I understand why he did it.
The next season we improved a lot as a team because coach Specht made adjustments and fixed the
problems we had the year before. That s what makes him a great coach because he was willing to
adapt and be open minded to other ways of playing. Also he would ask the players what they thought
about things, that is something I really liked because the players see the game different than the
coaches. Before every game he would ask me what I thought about the lineup and what our game plan
should be in the game. If we were having a bad game or if things weren t going the right way, I would
be the first person he would come to find out what we need to fix. Having a coach that trusts a player
this much is rare most coaches don t listen to what the players have to say.
At the beginning of my senior high school season my family was given the awful news that my
mother had breast cancer and soccer was the only way for me to get it off my mind. I m just thankful
for my coaches and teammates for helping get through one of the toughest times in my life. Coach

Rock guitarists are turned into icons, legends, and heros for music lovers. They influence many kids

Guitar solos can help compliment the song and make the listener keep coming back for that 30 to 60

and many times they become the main figure. The best players have developed their own styles and

She told me that my dad, a New York Police Department police officer, had gotten into a car accident pursuing a perpetrator during a high speed chase. I didn t comprehend the severity of her words until I visited him in the hospital a few days later and learned that he wouldn t be able to walk properly, if at all, ever again. On the day I learned that my dad had a serious disability, I would honor him and his sacrifice by fighting for people with disabilities, but I wasn t quite sure how. Upon taking this Disability and Employment Policy, I began to understand the impact that disability and employment policy would have on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Zimbabwe We Don T Cry For Lion Analysis In Zimbabwe, We Don t Cry for Lions Doctoral student in molecular and cellular biosciences at Wake Forest University, Goodwell Nzou, in his opinion piece, In Zimbabwe, We Don t Cry for Lions, effectively claims that Americans are not making a feasible claim when they are over expressing their feeling about Cecil s death, when in fact lions are harmful and kill villagers. He supports this claim asserting American are over exaggerating Cecil s death and are acting like this has never happened before. Nzou uses rhetorical questions and sarcasm to appeal to pathos when stating, Did all those Americans signing petitions understand that lions actually kill people? That all the talk about Cecil being beloved or a local favorite was media hype? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author uses pathos to get people to feel sympathy for the family in the village who lost their son when he got mauled by a lion. This quote greatly supports the author s purpose for writing this article. Finally he supports this claim asserting people are too ignorant to make a feasible claim about the situation. He uses diction and parallel structure to appeal to pathos when stating, Don t tell us what to do with our animals when you allow your own mountain lions to be hunted to near extinction in the eastern United States. Don t bemoan the clear cutting of our forest when you turn yours into concrete jungles. The author uses parallel structure when repeating, Don t to emphasise his overall point. He also uses diction to assert his claim when he uses the words, extinction, bemoan, and concrete jungles . He specifically used these words to get us to feel the injustice about how the Americans are acting about Cecil s death. Overall, Nzou combines his condemnatory and critical tone with these appeals to effectively point out to the people who are crying about Cecil s death that lions are harmful to people and killing lions happens all the time in the area. This article would be informative to the public who are outraged about Cecil s death and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

From colonialism to slavery, the industrial revolution to the World Wars, and the modern day technological boom, America in particular has often been right in the middle of all of the transformations. Amongst these changes certain movements also began to rise up especially in the arts, sciences, and politics. One such movement, romanticism, emphasized emotions, abstract thought, and individual self. On the other hand, an opposite movement known as neoclassicism, or sometimes just classicism, emphasized a more old school approach to life. The princess was afraid to come forward and express her love for the Duke just like people who identify as gay or lesbian, among many others, are today. In fact sometime after her publication of the Princess of Cleves it was discovered that Lafayette was most likely writing about the rule under Louis XIV, but she stated Henry II instead so she would not be caught and possible executed. It is in this way that even though certain aspects of our society is changing the world today is still very much classicist, and stuck in their traditional old school ways of life. Another example of this classicist view can be seen in Karl Marx s writings on communism. Karl Marx if one of the biggest influencers on the modern world. I strongly agree with the importance of this doctrine. It allows constitutional laws to uphold the disclosure of information without violating one s due process right. This piece of philosophical evidence grants reasonable probability to be permissible in a court of law which might exonerate a defendant. The Brady doctrine is a pretrial discovery rule that was established by the United States Supreme Court in Brady v. Maryland in 1963 in favor of a defendant (Hall, 2015). Critical Narrative And Story Telling Style English 2201 helped me discover not only myself as a writer, but allowed me to go more in depth with learning how to write in the field of my intended discipline. This is the first specific English class I have taken that focused on the style of writing I will need to be familiar in the future with. Because of that fact, I defiantly enjoyed this class. I feel like my knowledge and ability to navigate the writing techniques of my major have improved and my in text citations skills have improved greatly. Overall this course opened my eyes to the many different styles there are in the field of Communications, which is my intended field of study, and how to use these styles correctly and efficiently. I learned an array of new things with every paper and project we participated in. Our first project was a critical narrative styled paper. Personally when it comes to writing, I prefer the critical narrative and story telling style because I enjoy putting my creative mind to work. It is easier for me to write down exactly what I am thinking, rather than writing research papers with sources to go off of. So, I extremely enjoyed the first project. The main element I can take away from writing the Category 1: Writing in the Field assignment was how to conduct a proper interview. • 15. Comparing The Hobbit And The Lord Of The Rings How can an author write a story which appeals to a present day audience? Richard H. Tyre published an article in 1978 that gives an answer to this very question. Tyre explains how most kids today choose to read books like the Harry Potter series, The Lord of the Rings series, and even The Wizard of Oz. An existing theory that Tyre came up with explains that each of these books, along with many others, have one thing in common: 6 plot elements. Not only do these stories contain the same 6 elements but those elements are in the same order! Tyre states that (1) those who hunt for treasure, (2) must go alone, (3) at night, (4) and when they find it, (5) they must leave some of their blood behind, (6) and the treasure is never what they expected. (Tyre 2). J.R.R. Tolkien is the author of The Hobbit. The Hobbit revolves around one hobbit in particular named Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo embarks on a journey with 14 others to recover a treasure that is guarded by a dragon. Along the way Bilbo faces many challenges that range from running into huge trolls, to taking part in fierce battles. Due to it s main character hunting for treasure, facing most of the dangers alone, battling during the wee hours of the night, eventually finding the treasure, after sweating/crying/and enduring injuries, just to have the treasure revealed to him as not what he expected, J.R.R. However, Jeremy Corbyn s economic project has been concentrated around nationalisation. One of Corbyn s arguments has been that, national ownership of particular businesses can, promote long term development of the economy, help to acquire a renovating infrastructure and also provide a quality health and social care system. Furthermore, with the use of examples from around the world, Corbyn attempts to illustrate that the state is an ineffective manager, and also indicate the positive contributions of national ownership. Furthermore, in the UK, national state ownership has previously been too centralised, with authority in the hands of a private and commercial elite, which promotes Adam Smith s ideology. This is portrayed when he said, Avarice overrates the difference between poverty and riches: ambition, that between a private and a public station... , demonstrating that entrepreneurs drive economies and that their profits are a reward for their own risk, with this being the Just World theory. In addition, the ideology of Freidrich A. • 18. The Great Influence Of Manual Work 1 INTRODUCTION The importance of the sense of touch can significantly be seen in jobs that are often done manually. Workers such as hairdressers, bricklayers, carpenters, doctors, plumbers, archaeologists and butchers all rely on the sense of touch to perform their jobs well. These professions make high use of the kinesthetic and tactile abilities to perceive how their work is being done by using the perception of texture, characteristics or properties of the material. The great influence of manual work is quite noticeable in the day to day, and state of the art technology is being incorporated as a result. Nowadays, many machines have taken the place of people to do processes and increase production, which makes the sense of touch lose some of its dominance in daily work [1]. Haptics was introduced in the twentieth century in the field of experimental psychology. Its main objective was the understanding and manipulation of the sense of touch. Psychophysical experiments were conducted to assist in the understanding of contact between human and machine. For example, advanced studies showed that the tactile qualities of environmental structures are much more complex than visual. Robotic systems meant an important step to unravel the puzzles on the sense of touch, such as teleoperation and telepresence. These two were the main precursors for the revolution in the study of haptics [2]. A new bridge between man and computer is being created from the improvement of haptics ... The first step in bone fracture repair is the formation of a hematoma. When blood vessels within the bone tear, they hemorrhage. This results in the formation of a clot at the site of the break. Thus, a fracture hematoma is formed, stopping the flow of blood into the fracture site which, in turn, cause swelling. On a more psychological level, one could suggest that the hero s quest is symbolic of all personal conflict. Conflict begins when a problem arises that must be dealt with. With enough mental determination and/or aid from an outside source, however, one can bring themselves to cross the first threshold, and begin their journey into the heart of the problem. For example, victims of rape or other types of abuse must face what is haunting them in order for it to be exorcised properly. Jules is called to adventure when Marcellus Wallace instructs him and Vincent to collect his briefcase from Brett s apartment. Interestingly enough, this occurs before the film even begins, as we are first introduced to Jules and Vincent in medias res as they make their way to the apartment. Usually the next stage is supernatural aid, where the hero receives help with their journey by some otherworldly force, but Tarantino chooses to switch this stage places with the first threshold. The first threshold is when the hero faces a threshold guardian, standing for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Discrimination Against African American Literature Robert Hinsberger Honors American Studies English Mrs. Ravenscraft April 17, 2017 Discrimination against African Americans in The Invisible Man In the 1950s African Americans were treated unfairly and discriminated against. During the post civil war time tensions were still high, the discrimination and separation between the blacks and whites was still prevalent. Discrimination is portrayed through Jim Crow laws, which affected every African American tremendously, the narrator s experience at the Battle Royal, and the narrator s transition from the black college to New York and The Brotherhood. In the Invisible Man, Ellison utilizes characterization to represent the division between whites and blacks in America in the 1950s. Ralph ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before the fighting the white women were presented as the forbidden fruit. The Battle Royal incident showed the white women being paraded before the black boys as something to look at, to admire, and to desire, but not to touch (Sistrunk Krakue 1). Sistrunk Krakue describes the white women in the novel as royalty, like prized possessions, as if this was a once in a lifetime opportunity to see these women. These women are presented as dreams because the description includes admiration, desire, but something they can t actually attain. The white women show division of social classes because they looked around with their impersonal eyes (Ellison 19). The eyes give away the fact that the women don t even acknowledge anyone around them, they are just doing what they re order to do by the wealthy white men. Sistrunk Krakue s idea of dreaminess and royalty of the white women places them on an entirely different social platform, one that would be an impossible feat for a black boy. This judgment of the white women further explains the disrespect that blacks receive in society and how they re judged in most every facet of life. Within Invisible Man, judgment of races is a commonplace in society, Ellison exemplifies this point by starting the novel with a presentation of judgment between races. The town s privileged white men invite the narrator to give his prestigious speech at their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Salinger s novel The Catcher in the Rye, the main character, Holden Caufield, describes in detail the parts of his life and his environment that bother him the most. He faces these problems with a kind of naivety that prevents him from fully understanding why it is that he is so depressed. His life revolves around his problems, and he seems helpless in evading them. Among others, Holden finds himself facing the issues of acceptance of death, growing up, and his own self destructiveness. In chapter twenty five, Holden, while walking along Fifth Avenue, begins to believe that he will not be able to get to the other side of the street each time he reaches the end of a block, as if he will just fall off. He talks aloud to Allie to help him get through the ordeal. Holden also continues to see Allie as one of the few things he likes about life. Yet another demon that Holden avoids is the process of having to grow up. Throughout the book, he seems hesitant to develop any real ambitions or goals. He is a perpetual failure at school. He refuses to associate himself with mature ways of living, and so isolates himself from anyone his own age or older. This is all directly connected to Holden s picture perfect image of his childhood. He sees this particular period of his life as his own personal paradise. He does not want to finalize the fact that he has to concede it s innocence in the end. Towards the end of the book, Holden shows his desire for life to remain as it was by saying, ...certain things should stay the way they are. You ought to be able to stick them in one of those big glass cases and just leave them alone. Holden does not want to join a world of phonies and greed, a world lacking in carelessness and irresponsibility. He won t, whether consciously or not, accept the fact that he has no choice. My sports career started when I was three years old so I have had many different coaches coaches, my favorite coach I have ever had was my high school soccer coach. He is different from all the coaches I have had and he s my favorite coach because of the relationship we built and because he believed in me from day one. My freshman year of high school Coach Specht was the assistant soccer coach, at tryouts he told me that I would have a bright future as a player and could possible play varsity as as a freshman. That year we had twelve seniors and it was there last chance to play in front of the fans at home. At that time I was mad because I just loved to play and hated sitting but I understand why he did it. The next season we improved a lot as a team because coach Specht made adjustments and fixed the problems we had the year before. That s what makes him a great coach because he was willing to adapt and be open minded to other ways of playing. Also he would ask the players what they thought about things, that is something I really liked because the players see the game different than the coaches. Before every game he would ask me what I thought about the lineup and what our game plan should be in the game. If we were having a bad game or if things weren t going the right way, I would be the first person he would come to find out what we need to fix. Having a coach that trusts a player this much is rare most coaches don t listen to what the players have to say. At the beginning of my senior high school season my family was given the awful news that my mother had breast cancer and soccer was the only way for me to get it off my mind. They influence many kids and adults to pick up the guitar and spend countless hours trying to replicate their favorite player. This is what makes guitar players so important and essential in a rock band and many times they become the main figure. The most common of his effects are the octave up and the kill switch. On lots of his solos he will turn on an octave pedal which means an octave up will be additionally added to whatever he is playing in that moment. These solos will consist of two or more octaves giving him a unique sparkly sound. Tom Morello will often use a kill switch in his playing meaning whenever the switch is engaged it cuts the sound.
