Armenian culture developed from material and spiritual values created by the Armenian people over centuries. Armenian dance has its roots in the pre-Christian period, when pagan traditions reigned, and was used to depict the character of the Armenian people and their worldview. There are many traditional Armenian dances, including Kocharis, Yarkhushta, Trapar, Lorke, Ishxanac Par, and military dances that were performed before battles to inspire fighting spirit.
