Journey s End Journey
20th Century Drama The name of this play is Journey s End, written by R. C. Sherriff.
Introduction
The name of this play is Journey s End, written by R. C. Sherriff. The play was first preformed on a
Sunday night in December 1928. By 1929 it was being shown at the Savoy Theatre where it ran
for two years.
Later I will be studying the characters of Stanhope and Osborne, and how they link in with the title
Journey s End , and I will also examine the idea of journeys. I will also study the impact the play
had, why it was so successful and journeys of the minor characters,
Hibbert, Raleigh and Trotter.
Journeys
The subtext of the play is about journeys, mental, physical and emotional. Each character in the play

It starts at the beginning of the play, with him complaining of neuralgia. Stanhope doesn t believe
that Hibbert really has neuralgia, but thinks he is using it as an excuse to get out of the front line.
Later, Hibbert tries to leave, to go see the doctor so he can go home, but Stanhope confronts
Hibbert who still tries to leave. Stanhope threatens to shoot Hibbert, who stands there and shows
courage by telling Stanhope to shoot him.
This is a turning point in Hibbert s journey. Stanhope has realized that Hibbert may not actually
have neuralgia, but may just be terrified of what may happen in the war. Stanhope tells Hibbert
that he is terrified of what may happen, and in that moment, Hibbert decides to stay, and to fight
on. That is the major event in Hibbert s journey. Hibbert s journey went from being scared to
showing courage and bravery by staying. His journey ends in the big German attack at the end of
the play.
Trotter s journey is simpler, and mostly revolves around food, and where his next meal is coming
from. Back home trotter is a keen gardener, and has grown a prize Hollyhock. His journey ends in
the big
German attack at the end of the play.
Raleigh s journey is, and has been, strongly influenced by Stanhope, and his presence in Raleigh s
life. Stanhope knew Raleigh before the war, as their fathers were friends. When he first arrives in
the trenches, at the beginning of the play, he is very enthusiastic about

Persuasive Essay On Legalizing Marijuana
For many years legislatures have been considering legalizing marijuana because of its ability to
treat a variety of medical issues. The National Institute on Drug Abuse explains that the main
component in marijuana plants is a chemical known as delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC. THC
in marijuana is what causes users to become high once they have smoked or ingested it. What most
people do not understand about marijuana is that THC is not the only component found in
marijuana. There are many other chemicals in weed that do not cause a high but rather they alter
the mind in a different way that helps with medical disorders of any kind. The most prominent
component that aids in treating medical disorders is a chemical known as cannabidiol, or CBD....

First discovered in the late 1980 s, the endocannabinoid system regulates the body s homeostasis, or
general state of balance, impacting such functions as mood, sleep, appetite, hormone regulation, and
pain and immune response. When a person s endocannabinoid system is thrown off balance, CBD
oil can be used to regulate the system and help with problems such as nausea, muscle pains,
insomnia, and much more. Because CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system there are
several diseases and disorders that doctors have concluded can be treated with the use of CBD.
One of the main disorders that has been taken over with the CBD industry is epilepsy in children.
The Epilepsy Foundation explains that evidence from small clinicals show that cannabidiol can

Symptoms And Treatment Of Urinary Tract Infection
Pyelonephritis is the inflammation of the kidney that is mostly caused by a bacterial infection,
which leads to scarring of the kidney. It is a form of a urinary tract infection (UTI) one instance
may lead to substantial renal damage, kidney failure, abscess formation, sepsis, septic shock, and
the failure of multiple organs. The infection typically begins in the urethra or bladder and travels up
into the kidneys, where it could potentially harm the organs and even the life of the infected
individual. Although bacteriausually reach the kidneyby rising from the lower urinary tract, it may
also reach the kidney through the bloodstream.
The incidence of pyelonephritis is approximately 12 13 cases yearly per 10,000 people in females ...

The fever is not always evident, but when it there is present, the infected individual s temperature
can exceed 103В°F (39.4В°C). Nausea and/or vomiting differ in terms of frequency and intensity,
and can range from nonexistent to severe. In fact, it is not uncommon for patients with
pyelonephritis to experience anorexia.
Signs of acute pyelonephritis typically develop over hours or over the duration of a day, but may
not occur simultaneously. The infection is considered complicated until confirmed otherwise if
either of these criteria are met:
Patient is male
Elderly
A child, or
Patient has had symptoms for more than 7 days
Antibiotic therapy is critical in the management of acute pyelonephritis and stops the progression of
infection. Urine culture and subsequent sensitivity testing should always be done, and empirical
treatment should be customized to the infecting uropathogen.

In Praise Of The F Word By Mary Sherry
A few students will either leave high school happy or upset for many reasons. According in the
story of In Praise of the F Word, by Mary Sherry, she believe that it s healthy fear of failure, which
mean students can fail. Also, she believes that if a student is misbehaving in class, to threatened
them by saying I will flunk you in the class. By threatening the students, she strongly believes that
they will straight up and they will do their work. In other words, students care about more in the
grades then the actually learning in class.
When students flunk in school, it looks imperfect on the school and many more of other reasons.
Now the students have to retake the classes, because they were either not doing the work or just
didn t care about school. It starts to show how some students prefer to drop out of school for
drugs and etc. If they feel like they re not smart for whatever reason, their excuses will be oh not
doing the work, because I don t understand. When they can ask for help or get a tutor that will be
willing work out the problems for them.
Therefore, students that choose to flunk in school is a bad thing. The reason why, because they
find so many excuses to fail when they can t try it out first before saying it s too hard. It won t
hurt them to ask for help instead of trying to run away from the issues. It all begins with
participating in class and study until you get it memorize. Sometimes it is difficult to get the hang

Case Study Of Hitachi, Ltd.
Hitachi, Ltd. follows the principle of Centralization as it is a Japanese firm and the Japanese are
very peculiar about the chain of commands or the levels of management that is to be followed in
an organization. But this is somehow changing because of the changing business dimensions all
around the world. So, as to remain in the market, it is required to respond and react accordingly
to the market and make some changes in the organization principles for easy global operations.
Autonomy in management basically means allowing a great deal of freedom to make choices
in the workplace. A manager who grants an employee autonomy generally outlines the goal of a
project but allows the employee to decide the best way to achieve that goal. So, in Hitachi, ltd.

The Fairy Queen by Henry Purcell

The Fairy Queen by Henry Purcell is an excellent representation of the Baroque era in its inordinate
application of all theatrical foundations, embroidered indications, and the selected focused
elucidation to return melodrama, emotional tension, enthusiasm, and sumptuousness for the
audience watching. Baroque musicis characterized through contrasts as dramatic elements, monody
and the advent of the basso continuo, and different instrumental sounds. Contrast is an essential
feature in the production of baroque arrangements. The alternations between bold and flamboyant
and soft, solo and ensemble, different instruments and timbres all constitute a key portion in various
baroque compositions. Composers similarly created more precise instrumental arrangements
regularly stipulating the instruments on a musical piece that ought to be executed instead of
allowing the performing musician to select. The Fairy Queen is a masque or semi operaby Henry

Sports Equality
The nine principles of sports governance each play an important role in the operations of sports
entities, but I believe the two most important policies are Solidarity and Transparency and
Communication. Solidarity, in relation to sports, refers to fair distribution of revenues so that
competitions are not one sided and all teams have the opportunity to recruit talented athletes.
The NFL and NBA do a very good job with solidarity. Both of these leagues have revenue sharing,
which helps improve competitive balance across the league. (Miller) If these two leagues didn t
have revenue sharing and no salary cap, all the best players would drift towards the larger market
teams because they generate more money. (Miller) In the NBA especially, the small market teams
wouldn t be able to develop their young players who have a chance to be stars because they
wouldn t be able to pay them... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, since the NBA has a salary cap and revenue sharing to make the league fair, each team
can develop their young players and pay them when the time comes. The MLB, on the other hand,
is lacking with respect to solidarity because they have little revenue sharing and no salary cap. The
big market teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers dominate the sport while the small market teams
lose their star players because they cannot match the salaries or generate the same amount of
revenue to keep quality players on the roster. I don t agree with the way the MLB is structured,
in big part because I am a fan of a small market team (Cleveland Indians) and we don t have the
type of money to pay our star players. When comparing the payrolls of the Dodgers and the
Indians, it simply isn t fair. The Dodgers are over $200 million and the Indians are way below $100

Essay On Domain Name Search
CAN I GET A DOMAIN?
The first thing that comes to mind when you start a business is to secure a domain name, which
establishes a unique identity online. But, you go online to buy one and discover your domain name
is not available.
The next step is to tweak or find related names by adding hyphens ( ), underscore (_). Domain name
search often leads to confusion because domain names are not case sensitive and some names can
be misrepresented if there is a space, punctuation or capitalization. Example, a therapist with a room
that chose therapistroom.com as an online presence can be misread as the rapist room, Who
Represents, a database of celebrities, Agents, Representatives and Agencies chose
whorepresents.com which can be misread as whore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When buying or registering a domain name, make sure you are the domain owner or
administrative contact, that is, registered under your name or company; If possible, add a
current phone number, a designated email address (such as contact@domain.com just to avoid
spammers) and a physical address or a P.O. Box. This makes it easier for users to verify your
credibility with an offline presence. There are several ways to verify a domain, but the fastest
way is whois.net. Also, be careful when choosing an expired domain name. Some are affected by
copyright or trademark infringement, some have a history of bad representation or ban from
Google searches for violating a Google term.
After buying a domain name, what next? Domain in simple term is a plot of land. When you
secure a domain name, you secure a digital plot of land on the internet. That security comes with
an identification label to prove ownership or control. That ownership acquired from a Domain
name Registrar (such as godaddy.com, domains.google.com) does not confer outright ownership
or legal ownership of the domain, but only an exclusive right of use for a particular period of time
(usually for 1 year, 2 years, 5 years or 10 years). After securing a domain name, you have to host it.
Hosting is to build a house on your digital plot of land. Without hosting or host name, you cannot
build and without a domain, you cannot host.

Pretty Little Liars Research Paper
The Division Between Art and Popularity in Television
The lines of traditional art have blurred over the years as new artistic movements have appeared
and transformed the notion of what is considered art. As these movements have revolutionized the
art world, popular culture has branched off from art, causing a shift; art is no longer a
representation of popular culture and visa versa. In contemporary society art doesn t exist to win
any popularity contests, it exists to please the viewer, and is often deemed art by highly acclaimed
art critics who don t speak from a popular culture standpoint. Art highly regarded by critics often
goes against the grain and makes a statement, while popular culture is dictated by what the general
public likes, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When this idea is utilized in television, a large divide appears between shows that display artistic
elements and series that become the newest popular sensation. This phenomenon is apparent
when comparing the HBO show Girls, with the ever popular ABC Family drama Pretty Little
Liars. Girls presents a complex, carefully detailed plot line along with characters who refuse to
abide by social norms. Pretty Little Liars on the other hand follows a generic and predicable
script, complete with plot holes and lackluster characters devoid of diversity. The fact that Pretty
Little Liars reigns more popular than Girls proves that aesthetic appeal is not valued in today s
cultural landscape, uncovering the separation between art and popularity in television. Girls and
Pretty Little Liars represent two different ends of the artistic spectrum; Girls is widely considered
to be art despite its lack of diversity, whereas Pretty Little Liars is more popular yet is associated
with low brow culture given

How do boys and girls experience school? Somewhat differently it seems, because their learning

Boys teachers should sound matter of fact, even excited. Chadwell s voice sounds much more
forceful as he explains. Chadwell continues. A boy s autonomic nervous system causes them to
be more alert when they re standing, moving, and the room temperature is around 69 degrees.
Stress in boys, he says, tends to increase blood flow to their brains, a process that helps them stay
focused. This won t work for girls, who are more focused seated in a warmer room around 75
degrees. Girls also respond to stress differently. When exposed to threat and confrontation, blood
goes to their guts, leaving them feeling nervous or anxious. Boys will rise to a risk and tend to
overestimate their abilities, he says. Teachers can help them by getting them to be more realistic
about results, he says. Girls at this age shy away from risk, which is exactly why lots of girls
programs began in the private sector. Teachers can help them learn to take risks in an atmosphere
where they feel confident about doing so. It s an aha! moment for many of the parents, who seem
to understand. These differences can be accommodated in the classroom, Chadwell adds. Single
gender programs are about maximizing the learning. Mar. 5, 2008 Although researchers have long
agreed that girls have superior language abilities than boys, until now no one has clearly provided
a biological basis that may account for their differences. Share This:

Merit Pay Essay
Legal Status of Merit Pay Inasmuch as implementing a merit pay system is not illegal, it can
cause legal concerns. As stated by Pullin (2013), the legal concerns will arise due to how a merit

The Political Terms Left And Right Were Devised During The...
The political terms left and right were devised during the French revolution to describe the seating
arrangement in the British parliament. Those who sat on the left were generally opposed the
monarchy and supported the revolutions, while those on the right supported the traditional
institutions of the British Empire. It was during the nineteen century that the word wing began
following the term left and right, usually with weary intent. Those considered left wing were
unorthodox in their religious or political view
A radical ideology of the left is defined as political positions or activities that accepts or supports
social equality, often in opposition to social hierarchy and social inequality. Often those of left
wing ideology involve in concern for those in society who are perceived at a disadvantage
relative to others and a belief that there are unjustified inequalities that need to be reduced or
abolished. They propose a view of human beings living together harmoniously without great
disparities in wealth or social classes. On the other hand, those of the right wing radical ideology
are political positions or activities that view some forms of social inequality as either inevitable,
natural, normal or desirable and typically defend this position based on natural law, economics or
traditions.

Simulation of Packet level dataset for Network Intrusion Detection
I. Introduction:
The Internet is a global public network and it is the Universal source of information. It has become
a popular medium for commercial activities. Millions of dollars of transactions occur daily in many
financial organizations through Internet. The internet along with digital technologies has taken
human life into much higher levels of sophistication and ease. The growth of Internet has brought
about great benefits to the modern society; meanwhile, the rapidly increasing connectivity and
accessibility to the Internet has posed a security threat. With the tremendous growth of network
based services and sensitive information on networks, network security is getting more and more
import than ever. The attacks on the Internet have become both more prolific and easier to
implement because of the ubiquity of the Internet and the pervasiveness of easy to use operating
systems and development environments.
Data is often the most valuable asset possessed by an organization and it is the main target of
intentional attacks. Data stored, processed, and transmitted by a computer system must be protected.
Business organizations use the internet as an important aspect of their business model. In addition
to using internet applications, such as the web and email, to generate revenue and communicate

Viral Genetic Variation Lab Analysis
Title: Viral Genetic Variation Accounts for a Third of Variability in 1 Set Point Viral Load
Introduction: The extent to the pathogenesis of the human immunodeficiency virus 1 (HIV 1), or
HIV , has been studied for years. It is of large consensus to the medical community that any strong
predictor of the time showing phenotypic characteristics of HIV from the original transmission of
the disease can be predicted through assessing and evaluating the set point viral load (SPVL).
Depending on the subsequent viremia in the blood, biologists and medical professionals can
strongly predict the severity of the infection and future clinical outcomes.
The severity of SPVL is strongly associated with the genotype of the virus and its heritability ...

Researchers used a large data set of HIV genome sequences of over 2028 selected participants in the
study. Cohorts were broken down by age, sex, and mode of transmission. Using the data results, the
heritability of SPLV was calculated using common methods, which included the Brownian motion
model, parametric bootstrapping, and the OU model.
Results: Based on the SPLV of the sample size used for the study, it was determined that there is
a strong correlation between viremia and the genetic makeup of the virus with viral loads ranging
from 20% to 30% with the cohorts in the study. Thus, up to 30% of the variation in viral load is
explained by the viral genetic variation. When looking at the cohorts CD4 (cells that the HIV virus
kills), the heritability cell count is 11%. This result shows that this percentage is determined by the
virus s genotype.
In addition, the hypothesis that inconsistencies of the varying heterogeneity of SPLV in different
studies were a result of differences in viral genetics, differences in the host s genetics, and
calculation error as a result of incorrect methods were examined. After an assessment of the results
of the study, and the different methods uses, it can be determined that the difference in SPLV
heritability is not a direct result of genetic differences between large populations. On the contrast, it
was confirmed that there is a significant variability in viral load of an

Comparing Invisible Man and Brave New World Essay
Comparing Invisible Man and Brave New World
Both Ellison s The Invisible Man and Aldous Huxley s Brave New World are political in nature,
and at this level, seem completely dissimilar. The Invisible Man attempts to illuminate the social
entrapment of Black Americans, while Brave New World cautions against an over reliance on
technology and the amorality it can potentially inspire. At a deeper level, however, both books are
also about the status of the individual in society, and it is here that there is a remarkable similarity
between the two novels.
In both The Invisible Man and Brave New World, we see men fighting against societies that devalue
their individuality and thereby lessen their sense of identity and self ... Show more content on

All novels are about certain minorities , says Ellison the individual is a minority. The universal
in the novel and isn t that what we re all clamoring for these days? is reached only through the
description of the specific man in a specific circumstance (Graham and Singh, 9). Huxley says
something along the same lines in the forward to the anniversary issue of Brave New World when
he says the theme of Brave New World is not the advancement of science as such; it is the
advancement of science as it affects human individuals (Huxley, 16). Both statements suggest that
Ellison and Huxley are more concerned about the state of the individual than the state of society,
and this is an important distinction for one of the more subtle points of both novels is that the
health of society is determined by the health of the individuals of which it is composed.
The sickness inherent in both societies becomes apparent early on. In Invisible Man, Ellison
erects a classed society in which a select group of people use the narrator for their own selfish
purposes, refusing to see the inherent individual worth beyond the color of his skin. One of our
first examples of this is when Mr. Norton, the wealthy supporter of the Institute the narrator attends,
describes how the students there are all building blocks in his destiny. I mean that upon you
depends the outcome of the years I have spent in helping your school, says Mr.

Calyx amp; Corolla is a young company that offers a very unique choice for customers who are

This report suggests both short term and long term strategies that align with Calyx and Corolla s

First of all, Calyx and Corolla should further stimulate sales during the peak period and increase

In order to achieve in the long run, Calyx and Corolla needs to change its organizational structure

My phone buzzed, it was a notification from my Crossword Puzzle app. They had just uploaded

Lysistrata And Aristophara
Although Aristophanes Lysistrata is a form of Old Comedy, which satirizes the life of the polis,
and Thomas Dekker s The Shoemaker s Holiday is a form of English renaissance comedy, both
plays evoke the comic process of role reversals or inversion. Inversion creates humor through the
mixing up of expected hierarchies by placing the lower caste members of society on top. Thus,
role reversals offer short term liberation by reimagining the way of life, which creates the
possibility to mediate polarized interests. For example, in Lysistrata, Aristophanes exploits the
status of women as social outsiders and inverts their role to construct an alternative model to civic
government. In The Shoemaker s Holiday, Simon Eyre, a shoemaker, becomes... Show more content

The carnival experience of women on top, for example, gives women a clearer picture of the
real power to which they are entitled. The power the women of Lysistrata are entitled to is one
of the civic, which is male dominated. Lysistrata announces that she will act as manager of the
public funds and will cease financing military operations on the grounds that the war is

Phedre illustrates the attitude of men toward women in the Age of Reason and political

stereotype of woman as a destructive force in nature, known as a femme fatale.
Phedre
The play, Phedre, by Jean Racine presents the attitude of men toward women in the Age of
Reason and political Absolutism. Political Absolutism, is a state which is governed by a ruling
class namely a monarch with complete authority; however, Age of Reason is often depicted by
rationalism within religion, society, philosophy and not by reason. The logic for men often
represents logic, order, and strength. However, women constitute the emotions of weakness and
disorder which is a negative connotation for women which existed in the Age of Reason and
political Absolutism. Jean succeeds in building her play based on the stereotype of woman as a
destructive force in nature, known as a femme fatale. Mainly, Racine uses quasi thinking in
influencing her characters such as Theseus and Hippolytus who represent logic and order, and
Phedre, the main character, which is driven by emotions and subsequently suffers from tragedies
because of her actions. Essentially, the play opens with the destruction of a family because of
Phedre s emotions. A secret loveaffair between Phedre and Theseus s son, Hippolytus, saw him

The Pay For Performance Plan
Abstract
The pay for performance plan has been implemented in many organizations as a motivational
strategy for workers. However, the plan remains a hard sell in public schools where teachers have
deliberately turned down its implementation. Although the incentive program boosts individual
performance, it undermines the effort of other staff members since; there is no universally accepted
criterion that is used to gauge teachers performance apart from student test scores. Apparently, the
lack of incorporation of teachers in formulating the incentive plan is assumed to contribute to its
failure. Survey findings show that teachers need non cash incentives such as promotions.
Pay for Performance Remains Controversial in Public Schools
Introduction
Pay for performance has become acceptable to many organizations; however, it remains a hard sell
in public school systems where teachers need to be paid based on the student s test scores. For
instance, in Minnesota, 60% of all pay increases are anchored in performance rather than the
automatic rise in seniority. Similarly, Denver designed an incentive program that awards teachers
with bonuses for excellent student performances and for receiving national teaching certificates.
The idea of ensuring that more effective teachers are paid more than less effective teachers has been
received ceremoniously in some states while the concept continues to generate controversies in
other states. For instance, in Cincinnati, teachers

Flaws Of Society In Northanger Abbey
In the novel, Northanger Abbey, Jane Austen introduces many events and key characters,
including the heroine Catherine Morland, to the reader to exploit the flaws of society during the
regency period. The main character of Northanger Abbey, Catherine Morland, ventures away from
her sheltered home in Fulleerton to a place called Bath, where many people gather every year to
partake in a multitude of social events. Accompanied by the Allen s, a wealthy married couple
quite fond off Catherine, Catherine is placed in a class not necessarily hers. Catherine is expected
to learn and comply with society and the unsaid laws that follow. During Catherine s journey she

Catherine attends her second ball she meets Henry Tilney and dances with him twice. After the

The Idea Of Intellectual Property
The idea of intellectual property has many correlations with the concept of the marketplace of idea.
According to a common argument, intellectual property rights spark innovation, creating positive
economic growth and benefits for all. Because the marketplace comparison is an economic one,
there is a tendency to tie intellectual propertywith the marketplace of ideas. The key argument
arises whether ideas intangible resources, can be protected as property using the same concepts and
social processes that protect tangible property. The concept of property stems from scarcity. Which
is, the basic economic problem that results from people having unlimited wants but limited
resources. Scarcity doesn t explicitly mean unattainable or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Humans are lazy. People prefer satisfying their needs and wants the easiest way that they can. The
question then becomes whether an individual should be given societal protection through an
artificial scarcity. Why is there such a large plea for these protections? One possibility might be
because individuals prefer to get something for nothing, however still push for maximum efficiency.
Intellectual property rights are monopolies, in the sense that they indirectly take away labor in
order to preserve energy flows.
Imagine what the future may be like in fifty years with continual technological advances and the
possibility of creating intelligent machines that can construct roads, plant and produce foods, and
even build homes. Eventually, individuals will have little to no contribution in these processes.
These technologies will eventually appear as perpetual motion because individuals will receive
something for spending little to no time or energy. If all of our wants and needs were readily
available, we would then start to question the use of a monetary exchange system. Now, what
would the incentive be for protecting intellectual property rights? There most likely wouldn t be
one and every inventor will create for the sole purpose of creating. This possible, future, scenario is
exactly where we are headed regarding intellectual property rights. Everybody wants to make the

Immanuel Kant, Rudolf Carnap And Mary Leng
Knowledge about such objects as numbers and shapes has been debated by scholars including
Immanuel Kant, Rudolf Carnap and Mary Leng. The ability to attain knowledge of something s
existence encompasses philosophical ideas from a priori and a posteriori truths to ideas about
universalism. Abstract ideas with concrete uses, such as shapes and numbers, are effective vehicles
for such a discussion. I believe that mathematical objects exist as a priori truths and because they
follow an axiomatic truththeory. The truth theory applied however, is unique to the metaphysical
object being discussed.
According to Kant (1788), all knowledge that states fact is either a priori (exists by definition) or a
posteriori (knowable by experience) and is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A statement such as 3+4=7 is considered a mathematical truth, as if the mathematical objects 3, 4
and 7 exist and facts can be made about them. (Note that nominalists would not agree that numbers
exist in this sense however, as nominalist theories are often motivated by empiricist standpoints,
which find no place for the existence of non spatiotemporal objects.) A potential problem with
this is that one finds that mathematics has a hierarchy of abstraction, resulting in a plethora of
more conceptual mathematical objects that become difficult to engage with. A given fact such
as Fermat s Last Theorem: No three positive integers a, b, and c can satisfy the equation a^n +
b^n = c^n for any integer value of n greater than two which requires 150 pages to prove and
consumed 7 years of Andrew Wiles life to do so. The concepts that unfold from such a proof can
be known because they are derived from the axioms of mathematics in logic , which was first fully
established in logicism in 1884 by Gottlob Frege (see Thinking About Mathematics by Stewart
Shapiro (2000), p.107 115). In this sense, all mathematical facts are justified, therefore knowledge
of them is possible. Mathematical objects exist therefore because of how coherent and well defined
it is. It doesn t make sense to say we know about something that doesn t exist. So mathematics must

A recently graduated accountant accepted a company wanting to go public as its first client. That

the IPO, the accountant provided tax advice on matters, such as sheltering money to the Cayman

another company that would significantly increase its worth. The auditor s opinion on the

v. Touche, the court used the primary benefit test, which became known as Ultramares. Ultramares
requires privity, the accountant has a fiduciary duty only to whom they performed work for or an
entity very close to privity. Ultramares requires four aspects for a nonclient; the accountant must be
aware of the name, purpose, extent, and that the client is aware of the nonclient s use. If Ultramares
was used by Prosser Bank and the shareholders, it would fail on several requirements, but primarily
due to the fact that privity is not present, and the parties existence was unknown to the accountant.
In the case of Tricontinental Industries, Ltd. v. PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, Tricontinental relied
on the Anicom, Inc. s financial statements audited by PWC, but PWC did not note in its opinion the
discrepancies it discovered during the audit, and Tricontinental entered into an Asset Purchase

Robots Will Be The Biggest Job
Robotic Technology is the most beneficial means to the future of industries because they will
create more jobs. John Tammy states Robots will ultimately be the biggest job creators simply
because aggressive automation will free us up to do new work by virtue of it erasing toil that
was once essential ( why Robots Will Be The Biggest Job Creators In World History par.3). This
quote shows that robots will be the biggest reason why lots of people have jobs because. Robots
will create a lot of jobs for employees that will free them from doing hard labor. When labor is
hard and it can cause employees to be exhausted which results from them to slow down
production which is bad the company. Without robots, employees are stuck with doing hard and
even time consuming labor which can slow down production. Industrial robots can help a lot of
companies make labor less harsh. Bill Lydon states Automation has allowed us to compete on a
global basis and it has created jobs in Southwest Michigan. If it had not been for automation we
would not have beaten our Japanese, Chinese, and Mexican competitors ( IFR press release 1).
This quote shows that robots not only help companies create more employment, they can also help
companies beat competitors. Which are very beneficial to them because it can help companies build
a good reputation because of the quality and popularity of their products. Without robots to help
companies beat their competitors, they could be beaten by them and

Essay on Theory and Practice in Post-Colonial Literatures
Theory and Practice in Post Colonial Literatures Introduction More than three quarters of the
people living in the world today have had their lives shaped by the experience of colonialism. It is
easy to see how important this has been in the political and economic spheres, but its general
influence on the perceptual frameworks of contemporary peoples is often less evident. Literature
offers one of the most important ways in which these new perceptions are expressed and it is in
their writing, and through other arts such as painting, sculpture, music, and dance that the day to
day realities experienced by colonized peoples have been most powerfully encoded and so
profoundly influential. What are post colonial... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because there is a continuity of preoccupations throughout the historical process initiated by
European imperial aggression. We also suggest that it is most appropriate as the term for the new
cross cultural criticism which has emerged in recent years and for the discourse through which this
is constituted. In this sense this book is concerned with the world as it exists during and after the
period of European imperial domination and the effects of this on contemporary literatures. So the
literatures of African countries, Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, Caribbean countries, India,
Malaysia, Malta, New Zealand, Pakistan, Singapore, South Pacific Island countries, and Sri Lanka
are all post colonial literatures. The literature or the USA should also be placed in this category.
Perhaps because of its current position of power, and the neo colonizing role it has played, its post
colonial nature has not been generally recognized. But its relationship with the metropolitan centre
as it evolved over the last two centuries has been paradigmatic for post colonial literatures
everywhere. What each of these literatures has in common beyond their special and distinctive
regional characteristics is that they emerged in their present form out of the experience of
colonization and asserted themselves by foregrounding the tension with the imperial power, and by
emphasizing their differences from the assumptions of the imperial centre. It is this

My Life For Rebuilding 90 s Model Cars
My husband and I have a strong passion for rebuilding 90 s model cars such as civics,
hatchbacks, Acura s, Mitsubishi Eclipse s, Celica s, etc. We do two project cars a year, and
have done so for the past four years. We used to be able to find older vehicles that were still in
good condition, the upholstery was in good condition, and there wasn t much wrong mechanically.
About two years ago we started to notice the lack of maintenance and time people would actually
put into their cars. From experience, a car will not run if not properly taken care of and serviced in
the correct time frame.
Normally when my husband and I get a vehicle we always start under the hood. First, check the
oil. Without oil, people run the risk of seizing and locking up the engine and then it becomes a lot
more expensive than just a few quarts of oil. Most people I have noticed, don t know how often to
change their oil. When using regular blend oil, it should be changed around every 3,500 miles.
When purchasing synthetic oil, which is used in most vehicles today drivers should change it
around 7,000 miles. After checking the oil, we check the tire pressure to ensure the correct lbs. of
pressure required for the type of tires and vehicle we have. Other fluid levels to check include the
coolant reservoir, anti freeze levels, as well as transmission and brake fluid. Aside from fluids,
when my husband would perform a tune up on a vehicle new to us, he would also check the spark
plugs and wires

Reactance Window Drying
Reactance Window drying: Reactance Technology is a novel drying system. It uses circulating
water at atmospheric pressure as a means to carry thermal energy to material to be dehydrated.[2]
Infrared Zone Drying: It uses infrared energy applied to a thin film of product in a series of zones.
This allows product to be maintained at a low temperatureto avoid damage while in its liquid state.
DRYING FUNDAMENTALS Drying involves the removal of moisture in thermal drying; this is
achieved by give the heatto the product. The heat increases the vapor pressure of the moisture in the
product above that of the surrounding air. Pressure and thermal cause the moisture, liquid and
vapor, to move to the surface of the product. Evaporationtakes place and water vapor is transferred
to the surrounding air. This air may become saturated but the process of drying continues if this
moist air is replaced by less saturated air. In a crop there is a combination of free and bound
moisture. Free moisture is water that can move through the product in an unrestricted way. Its
movement is not dependent on the internal structure of the crop. The vaporization evaporation
process is at a maximum when there is sufficient free water in the product to replace that
evaporated at its surface. As this moisture is evaporated the moisture content of the product falls
and the product temperature is close to the wet bulb temperature of the drying air. This period in

Criticisms and reforms or murder and manslaughter
Despite some recent reforms, there are still criticisms to be made of the current law on murder and
voluntary manslaughter. Consider relevant criticisms of that law, and suggest any reforms that may
be appropriate.
Despite recent reforms on the law of murder and voluntary manslaughter; including the special
defence of diminished responsibility and loss of control, there are still inconsistencies present
making the law unsatisfactory. This area of the law is in dire need of reform ; as pointed out by
the Law Commission in their 2006 report; Murder, Manslaughter and infanticide. The report stated
how The Law governing homicide in England and Wales is a rickety structure built upon shaky
foundations.
One of the main areas pointed out by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For this reason I agree with the Law Commission s proposal that a D can plead the defence of
duress if they had no realistic opportunity to seek police protection and showed the courage of an
ordinary person.
Currently if a D aged 18 or over is convicted of murder, the judge must pass a mandatory sentence
of life imprisonment. For offenders aged 10 17 found guilty of murder, the judge must order that
they are detained at Her Majesty s Pleasure. The fact the sentencing is mandatory and the judge
has no discretion leaves a lack of ability to sentence according to blameworthiness, unlike all other
offences which have discretion in sentencing; Gotts. This lack of differentiation between
blameworthiness is further emphasised by the Government s sentencing guidelines laid down in
the Criminal Justice Act 2003. Under this act in cases of murders of police officers or murders
involving firearms D should receive a 30 year sentence. However, in cases like that of Martin
(Anthony) such a sentence would appear unjust.
With regards to the issues mentioned above the Law Commission proposed that murder should
be reformed by dividing it up into two separate offences; first degree murder; and second degree
murder. First degree murder would cover cases where the D intended to kill and where D
intended to inflict serious harm and was aware of the risk of death. Second degree murder would
include cases where the D intended to do serious harm but was not aware there was a risk of

Essay The history of video games
In the beginning........
The first real video game was made in 1958, by a physicist named William Higginbotham. It is a
table tennis like game and is played on an oscilloscope, a device used for visual displays. While
some big name games, company s, and events have yet to happen, this is what sparked the video
game interest. These paragraphs will guide you through the many years of games. Lets a go!!
Early years (1961 1972)
Things start off when the first interactive computer game SpaceWars (made in 1961) is visited by
the eventual founders of Atari Nolan Bushnell Ted Dabney attempt to make an arcade version of
the game in 1970. In 1971 they succeed, but the public finds it too hard to play. In 1972, a console

It was superior in graphics, but was considerably more expensive ($299). This is just the first of
many companies Atari will have to compete with. Let s see how long Atari will last.
Hits and misses, plus a crash. (1981 1984)
To start off, we go 1981, the beginning of the first video game magazine, Electronic games, made
by Arnie Katz and Bill Kunkle. 1982 introduces the Atari 5200. The next year is much more
eventful. It starts off with a video game market crash, and several companies go bankrupt.
However, there is good news and its name is Nintendo. The Japanese company is not willing to
release the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in America because Atari rules a large part of
the market. Instead, they decide to offer Atari the rights to release the product in the U.S. The plans
fall through and we do not see Nintendo until 1985.
Consoles galore!!! (1985 89)
If the title didn t give it away, there will be a lot of new devices to play on, plus a now game
only company that made a lot of consoles before it went game only will be introduced. So back on
the timeline........... We start off at 1985 where a Russian programmer named Alex Pajitnov makes
the popular game, Tetris. As said above, the NES is released. If you want to play some of its games
now, try this link: www.nescafeplay.com/main/
Now, on to 86. In order to rival the NES, Sega (now stuck with making games) releases the Sega
Master System

A Palace In Time Heschel Analysis
As a dimension widely considered inextricable from human existence as a whole, concepts of time
and temporal existence often intersect with those of sacredness and spirituality. Indeed, many
religions equate time to mortality, with the temporal representing the irreligious and worldly
confines that precede eternity, Heaven, or Enlightenment. Contrarily, within the introductory
chapter of his text The Sabbath, entitled A Palace in Time, author and Jewish mystic Abraham
Joshua Heschel eloquently proposes the glorification of time as an inherently divine element.
To Heschel, time evokes divinity. The sabbatical observance and glorification of the seventh day
runs adjacent to that of God, who, accordingly, did not lackadaisically rest on the seventh day but
rather deliberately built the Sabbath and its underlying concept of menuhah abstractly defined by
the author as tranquility, serenity, peace, repose, and perhaps most importantly the essence of good
life. Heschel conceptualizes the Jewish Sabbath as a recurrent, sanctified moment in time by which
holiness exudes; essentially, his conception of sabbatical observation does not equate to the
popular, non theological understanding of Sabbath as rest and ... Show more content on

Instead, Heschel emphasizes the importance of the Sabbath as a moment of celebration of the
majesty of holiness in time, a day by which observant Jews carve out holiness in the experiential
moments of time amid the materialism of tangible space. Time particularly, sabbatical time thereby
does not undermine the practical importance of labor and civilization, but instead grants meaning to
these spatial elements. In short, as Heschel asserts, It is not a thing that lends significance to a
moment; it is the moment that lends significance to

Literary Analysis Of Miss Brill
In the short story Miss Brill an elderly woman sits in a park, romanticizing about all the possible
scenarios that are taking place around her. This story has many central themes, the main one, of
course, being perception. Miss Brill is a very perceptive woman, which is continuously
showcased by her being able to pick up on, and closely observe, the different narratives
transpiring in the park. Miss Brill was able to see the humour in these performances , however,
ironically, she failed to see that she herself was the subject of a joke. Through continuously
romanticizing reality, and focusing only on one s own point of view, one runs the risk of
becoming oblivious to the way others view one s self. Aforementioned, Miss Brill, an elderly
woman, sits in a park within walking distance of her residence, and observes. That is essentially
the sum of the story, the shortened version. This is because she is likely very lonely, as shown by
the author, literally in the name, Miss Brill. Not Ms. Brill, not Mrs. Brill, but Miss, which is done
to emphasize that she is unmarried. The purpose of this is to point out that she doesn t have anyone
of significance in her life and that she is probably lonely. This is important because it points out
why someone, in their right mind, would want to sit around a park all day and watch people.
Except she doesn t just watch them, she dreams up narratives and ponders the possible
conversations they re having, and gives them a role to fill in her

The Issue Of Illegal Immigrants
No matter what a person s ethnicity or race may be, every person has thoughts, feelings, values,
aspirations, needs, and desires. People are uncomfortable if someone else s values and culture are
different from their own. The term for a group or community fearing another person s perspective
and lifestyle is called ethnocentrism. Ethnocentrism is the reason that American citizen s highly
debate and criticize illegal immigration, arguing that illegal immigrants are drug addicted thieves
who thrive off of stealing American s jobs and harming the United States labor force and the
economy. As the immigration rate progressively rise s it simultaneously concerns those who favor
strict immigration laws and believe that illegal immigrants are harming the United States. However,
these assumptions are hardly fact based and people fail to acknowledge that immigrants are human
beings who only want to help and support their families. The reality is that without illegal
immigrants, the United States would economically suffer.
Actual data shows that immigration has a generally positive impact on a county s economy, what
with immigrants doing work, paying taxes, spending their money in the country and all that. Even
parts of our infrastructure on which the economy depends are owned by foreigners. Places where
strong anti immigrant policies have been enacted usually suffer economic downturns as a result. It
seems like stopping immigration to improve the economy is like hacking your foot

The Foils of Hamlet Essay
A foil is a minor character in a literary work that compliments the main character through
similarities and differences in personality and plot. In William Shakespeare s play Hamlet , the
main character, Hamlet, has three major foils. These foils are his close friend Horatio, Fortinbras,
Prince of Norway, and the brother of his love, Laertes. These three characters contradict and
enhance Hamlets major characteristics. Hamlet s friend Horatio is a foil for him because he
brings out the revenge and betrayal in Hamlet. He is a listener for Hamlet. Horatio seems to be the
only one who is sympathetic of Hamlet concerning the death of his father and his mother s quick
remarriage. He is very loyal to Hamlet. Horatio, through... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Laertes also brings revenge and betrayal out of Hamlet. Though an enemy, Laertes is a foil to
Hamlet. Laertes helps in the development of Hamlet through the similarities they share. These
include anger over the death of their fathers, and desire to exact revenge. Betrayal is also relevant
because Laertes betrays Claudius in the end, revealing his plan to kill Hamlet. Hamlet betrays his
father by verbally abusing his mother, against the wishes of his father. The differences between the
two men are very strong. Hamlet would not kill Claudius in the church because he was praying.
Laertes, however stated that he would kill Hamlet in a church, praying or not. Another difference is
that Hamlet cannot be a man of action and a man of thought at the same time. He does not use his
mind when he acts. He just acts. When he is pondering something, he is unable to act out his
thoughts, and keeps quiet. Laertes, however, is able to act while thinking. He finds out that Hamlet
killed his father and immediately devises a plan to kill him. This flaw makes Hamlet dangerous to
himself, and is ultimately his downfall. Through the different minor characters, the true feelings
and personalities of the main character in a novel or a play come out. Hamlet s weaknesses,
strengths, thoughts, and desires came out because of his relationships with others. Without Horatio,
Fortinbras, or Laertes, the small aspects of Hamlet s

Mystery and Menace in Black Veil and Signal Man Essay

essay is trying to achieve. Word Count.
Compare how Dickens creates a sense of mystery and menace in the
Black Veil and the Signal Man . Explain how he uses these theories to explore his theme?
The opening of both stories are quite different. The Black Veil is written in the third person and
The Signal man is written in the first person narrative. The Black Veil creates an atmosphere of
cosiness and warmth which is created by the items of clothing which are worn by the doctor.

His physical appearance is overcast a dark sallow man, with dark beard and rather heavy eyebrows.
Dickens description likens him to a ghost
the fixed eyed saturnine face . angry sunset is used to add a fiery red light to his dark valley,
which is shown with phrases such as his figure was foreshortened and shadowed , and again
adding an element of mystery because the narrator says I had shaded my eyes with my hand
before I saw him at all to first of all, introduce the spectre s gesture, but also to give the
impression that the light doesn t reach the valley, but skims the top and he has to block it out to
see into the darkness, and by using the word angry , he makes the sunlight seem almost
intimidating in itself. He first plants the idea of the Signalman not being all he seems, in the
readers minds when he says, as the Signalman looks down the Line, There was something
remarkable in his manner of doing so, though I could not have said, for my life, what. But I know it
was remarkable enough to attract my notice which suggests that he is not entirely normal. When the
narrator asks about a path into the valley, he says the signalman
looked up at me without replying here, he seems to be somewhat preoccupied and maybe wary of
him. Dickens uses the phrase skimming away over the landscape , which sounds ghostly, to
describe the vapour given off by the train.

Existentialism in Literature and Science
Existentialism is the philosophical approach or theory that emphasizes an individual s existence as
a free and responsible being determining his own development through acts of the will (
Existentialism ). What does that mean exactly? To make it easier to understand, that means humans
as people are shaping their own destinies with every choice they make. That seems quite obvious,
but to further understand the meaning of existentialism, it must be analyzed through the impacts it
has had on both literature and scientific theories alike. The literary movement of existentialism is
seen heavily in Franz Kafkas The Metamorphosis and Albert Camus The Stranger. In The
Metamorphosis, the movement of his existentialism is gradual. Gregor Samsa, the protagonist,
hates his job and he wishes to be free of all his social suffering. This is seen when he is
transformed into a monstrous vermin (Kafka 3). His transformation symbolizes him being free of
the social afflictions but his human like qualities also fade away and his meaning of lifeis taken
away as well. Gregor now hardly ate anything anymore. Only when he accidentally passed the
food laid out for him would he take a bite into his mouth just for fun, hold it in for hours, and then
mostly spit it out again (45). After his family abandons him and he is ready to die, there really isn t
a meaning to life by that time. The Metamorphosis emphasizes that one must interact with society
in order for there to be a meaning to

The play was first preformed on a Sunday night in December 1928. By 1929 it was being shown at the Savoy Theatre where it ran for two years. Later I will be studying the characters of Stanhope and Osborne, and how they link in with the title Journey s End , and I will also examine the idea of journeys. It starts at the beginning of the play, with him complaining of neuralgia. Stanhope doesn t believe that Hibbert really has neuralgia, but thinks he is using it as an excuse to get out of the front line. Later, Hibbert tries to leave, to go see the doctor so he can go home, but Stanhope confronts Hibbert who still tries to leave. Stanhope threatens to shoot Hibbert, who stands there and shows courage by telling Stanhope to shoot him. This is a turning point in Hibbert s journey. Stanhope has realized that Hibbert may not actually have neuralgia, but may just be terrified of what may happen in the war. Stanhope tells Hibbert that he is terrified of what may happen, and in that moment, Hibbert decides to stay, and to fight on. That is the major event in Hibbert s journey. Hibbert s journey went from being scared to showing courage and bravery by staying. His journey ends in the big German attack at the end of the play. Trotter s journey is simpler, and mostly revolves around food, and where his next meal is coming from. Back home trotter is a keen gardener, and has grown a prize Hollyhock. His journey ends in the big German attack at the end of the play. Raleigh s journey is, and has been, strongly influenced by Stanhope, and his presence in Raleigh s life. The National Institute on Drug Abuse explains that the main component in marijuana plants is a chemical known as delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC. THC in marijuana is what causes users to become high once they have smoked or ingested it. What most people do not understand about marijuana is that THC is not the only component found in marijuana. Also, she believes that if a student is misbehaving in class, to threatened them by saying I will flunk you in the class. Sports Equality The nine principles of sports governance each play an important role in the operations of sports entities, but I believe the two most important policies are Solidarity and Transparency and Communication. Solidarity, in relation to sports, refers to fair distribution of revenues so that competitions are not one sided and all teams have the opportunity to recruit talented athletes. The NFL and NBA do a very good job with solidarity. Both of these leagues have revenue sharing, which helps improve competitive balance across the league. (Miller) If these two leagues didn t have revenue sharing and no salary cap, all the best players would drift towards the larger market teams because they generate more money. In contemporary society art doesn t exist to win any popularity contests, it exists to please the viewer, and is often deemed art by highly acclaimed art critics who don t speak from a popular culture standpoint. It is of large consensus to the medical community that any strong predictor of the time showing phenotypic characteristics of HIV from the original transmission of the disease can be predicted through assessing and evaluating the set point viral load (SPVL). Depending on the subsequent viremia in the blood, biologists and medical professionals can strongly predict the severity of the infection and future clinical outcomes. Researchers used a large data set of HIV genome sequences of over 2028 selected participants in the study. Cohorts were broken down by age, sex, and mode of transmission. Using the data results, the heritability of SPLV was calculated using common methods, which included the Brownian motion model, parametric bootstrapping, and the OU model. Results: Based on the SPLV of the sample size used for the study, it was determined that there is a strong correlation between viremia and the genetic makeup of the virus with viral loads ranging from 20% to 30% with the cohorts in the study. Thus, up to 30% of the variation in viral load is explained by the viral genetic variation. When looking at the cohorts CD4 (cells that the HIV virus kills), the heritability cell count is 11%. This result shows that this percentage is determined by the virus s genotype. In addition, the hypothesis that inconsistencies of the varying heterogeneity of SPLV in different studies were a result of differences in viral genetics, differences in the host s genetics, and calculation error as a result of incorrect methods were examined. After an assessment of the results of the study, and the different methods uses, it can be determined that the difference in SPLV heritability is not a direct result of genetic differences between large populations. On the contrast, it was confirmed that there is a significant variability in viral load of an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Invisible Man attempts to illuminate the social entrapment of Black Americans, while Brave New World cautions against an over reliance on technology and the amorality it can potentially inspire. At a deeper level, however, both books are also about the status of the individual in society, and it is here that there is a remarkable similarity between the two novels. The universal in the novel and isn t that what we re all clamoring for these days? is reached only through the description of the specific man in a specific circumstance (Graham and Singh, 9). Huxley says something along the same lines in the forward to the anniversary issue of Brave New World when he says the theme of Brave New World is not the advancement of science as such; it is the advancement of science as it affects human individuals (Huxley, 16). Both statements suggest that Ellison and Huxley are more concerned about the state of the individual than the state of society, and this is an important distinction for one of the more subtle points of both novels is that the health of society is determined by the health of the individuals of which it is composed. The sickness inherent in both societies becomes apparent early on. In Invisible Man, Ellison erects a classed society in which a select group of people use the narrator for their own selfish purposes, refusing to see the inherent individual worth beyond the color of his skin. Lysistrata And Aristophara Although Aristophanes Lysistrata is a form of Old Comedy, which satirizes the life of the polis, and Thomas Dekker s The Shoemaker s Holiday is a form of English renaissance comedy, both plays evoke the comic process of role reversals or inversion. Inversion creates humor through the mixing up of expected hierarchies by placing the lower caste members of society on top. Thus, role reversals offer short term liberation by reimagining the way of life, which creates the possibility to mediate polarized interests. For example, in Lysistrata, Aristophanes exploits the status of women as social outsiders and inverts their role to construct an alternative model to civic government. Using evidence from the play, discuss how Racine s Phedre reinforces the stereotype of woman as a destructive force in nature, known as a femme fatale. Phedre The play, Phedre, by Jean Racine presents the attitude of men toward women in the Age of Reason and political Absolutism. Political Absolutism, is a state which is governed by a ruling class namely a monarch with complete authority; however, Age of Reason is often depicted by rationalism within religion, society, philosophy and not by reason. The logic for men often represents logic, order, and strength. However, women constitute the emotions of weakness and disorder which is a negative connotation for women which existed in the Age of Reason and political Absolutism. Jean succeeds in building her play based on the stereotype of woman as a destructive force in nature, known as a femme fatale. Mainly, Racine uses quasi thinking in influencing her characters such as Theseus and Hippolytus who represent logic and order, and Phedre, the main character, which is driven by emotions and subsequently suffers from tragedies because of her actions. However, the plan remains a hard sell in public schools where teachers have deliberately turned down its implementation. Although the incentive program boosts individual performance, it undermines the effort of other staff members since; there is no universally accepted criterion that is used to gauge teachers performance apart from student test scores. Apparently, the lack of incorporation of teachers in formulating the incentive plan is assumed to contribute to its failure. Survey findings show that teachers need non cash incentives such as promotions. Pay for Performance Remains Controversial in Public Schools Introduction Pay for performance has become acceptable to many organizations; however, it remains a hard sell in public school systems where teachers need to be paid based on the student s test scores. For instance, in Minnesota, 60% of all pay increases are anchored in performance rather than the automatic rise in seniority. Similarly, Denver designed an incentive program that awards teachers with bonuses for excellent student performances and for receiving national teaching certificates. The idea of ensuring that more effective teachers are paid more than less effective teachers has been received ceremoniously in some states while the concept continues to generate controversies in other states. According to a common argument, intellectual property rights spark innovation, creating positive economic growth and benefits for all. Because the marketplace comparison is an economic one, there is a tendency to tie intellectual propertywith the marketplace of ideas. The key argument arises whether ideas intangible resources, can be protected as property using the same concepts and social processes that protect tangible property. Intellectual property rights are monopolies, in the sense that they indirectly take away labor in order to preserve energy flows. Imagine what the future may be like in fifty years with continual technological advances and the possibility of creating intelligent machines that can construct roads, plant and produce foods, and even build homes. Eventually, individuals will have little to no contribution in these processes. These technologies will eventually appear as perpetual motion because individuals will receive something for spending little to no time or energy. The ability to attain knowledge of something s existence encompasses philosophical ideas from a priori and a posteriori truths to ideas about universalism. Abstract ideas with concrete uses, such as shapes and numbers, are effective vehicles for such a discussion. I believe that mathematical objects exist as a priori truths and because they follow an axiomatic truththeory. The truth theory applied however, is unique to the metaphysical object being discussed. A statement such as 3+4=7 is considered a mathematical truth, as if the mathematical objects 3, 4 and 7 exist and facts can be made about them. (Note that nominalists would not agree that numbers exist in this sense however, as nominalist theories are often motivated by empiricist standpoints, which find no place for the existence of non spatiotemporal objects.) A potential problem with this is that one finds that mathematics has a hierarchy of abstraction, resulting in a plethora of more conceptual mathematical objects that become difficult to engage with. A given fact such as Fermat s Last Theorem: No three positive integers a, b, and c can satisfy the equation a^n + b^n = c^n for any integer value of n greater than two which requires 150 pages to prove and consumed 7 years of Andrew Wiles life to do so. The concepts that unfold from such a proof can be known because they are derived from the axioms of mathematics in logic , which was first fully established in logicism in 1884 by Gottlob Frege (see Thinking About Mathematics by Stewart Shapiro (2000), p.107 115). We used to be able to find older vehicles that were still in good condition, the upholstery was in good condition, and there wasn t much wrong mechanically. About two years ago we started to notice the lack of maintenance and time people would actually put into their cars. From experience, a car will not run if not properly taken care of and serviced in the correct time frame. Normally when my husband and I get a vehicle we always start under the hood. First, check the oil. Without oil, people run the risk of seizing and locking up the engine and then it becomes a lot more expensive than just a few quarts of oil. Most people I have noticed, don t know how often to change their oil. When using regular blend oil, it should be changed around every 3,500 miles. When purchasing synthetic oil, which is used in most vehicles today drivers should change it around 7,000 miles. After checking the oil, we check the tire pressure to ensure the correct lbs. of pressure required for the type of tires and vehicle we have. It uses circulating water at atmospheric pressure as a means to carry thermal energy to material to be dehydrated.[2] Infrared Zone Drying: It uses infrared energy applied to a thin film of product in a series of zones. This allows product to be maintained at a low temperatureto avoid damage while in its liquid state. DRYING FUNDAMENTALS Drying involves the removal of moisture in thermal drying; this is achieved by give the heatto the product. The heat increases the vapor pressure of the moisture in the product above that of the surrounding air. Pressure and thermal cause the moisture, liquid and vapor, to move to the surface of the product. Evaporationtakes place and water vapor is transferred to the surrounding air. This air may become saturated but the process of drying continues if this moist air is replaced by less saturated air. In a crop there is a combination of free and bound moisture. Free moisture is water that can move through the product in an unrestricted way. Its movement is not dependent on the internal structure of the crop. The vaporization evaporation process is at a maximum when there is sufficient free water in the product to replace that evaporated at its surface. As this moisture is evaporated the moisture content of the product falls and the product temperature is close to the wet bulb temperature of the drying air. Despite recent reforms on the law of murder and voluntary manslaughter; including the special defence of diminished responsibility and loss of control, there are still inconsistencies present making the law unsatisfactory. This area of the law is in dire need of reform ; as pointed out by the Law Commission in their 2006 report; Murder, Manslaughter and infanticide. The report stated how The Law governing homicide in England and Wales is a rickety structure built upon shaky foundations. One of the main areas pointed out by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For this reason I agree with the Law Commission s proposal that a D can plead the defence of duress if they had no realistic opportunity to seek police protection and showed the courage of an ordinary person. Currently if a D aged 18 or over is convicted of murder, the judge must pass a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment. For offenders aged 10 17 found guilty of murder, the judge must order that they are detained at Her Majesty s Pleasure. The fact the sentencing is mandatory and the judge has no discretion leaves a lack of ability to sentence according to blameworthiness, unlike all other offences which have discretion in sentencing; Gotts. This lack of differentiation between blameworthiness is further emphasised by the Government s sentencing guidelines laid down in the Criminal Justice Act 2003. Under this act in cases of murders of police officers or murders involving firearms D should receive a 30 year sentence. However, in cases like that of Martin (Anthony) such a sentence would appear unjust. With regards to the issues mentioned above the Law Commission proposed that murder should be reformed by dividing it up into two separate offences; first degree murder; and second degree murder. First degree murder would cover cases where the D intended to kill and where D intended to inflict serious harm and was aware of the risk of death. Second degree murder would include cases where the D intended to do serious harm but was not aware there was a risk of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hits and misses, plus a crash. The Japanese company is not willing to release the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in America because Atari rules a large part of the market. Instead, they decide to offer Atari the rights to release the product in the U.S. The plans fall through and we do not see Nintendo until 1985. Consoles galore!!! • 42. A Palace In Time Heschel Analysis As a dimension widely considered inextricable from human existence as a whole, concepts of time and temporal existence often intersect with those of sacredness and spirituality. Indeed, many religions equate time to mortality, with the temporal representing the irreligious and worldly confines that precede eternity, Heaven, or Enlightenment. Contrarily, within the introductory chapter of his text The Sabbath, entitled A Palace in Time, author and Jewish mystic Abraham Joshua Heschel eloquently proposes the glorification of time as an inherently divine element. To Heschel, time evokes divinity. The sabbatical observance and glorification of the seventh day runs adjacent to that of God, who, accordingly, did not lackadaisically rest on the seventh day but rather deliberately built the Sabbath and its underlying concept of menuhah abstractly defined by the author as tranquility, serenity, peace, repose, and perhaps most importantly the essence of good life. Heschel conceptualizes the Jewish Sabbath as a recurrent, sanctified moment in time by which holiness exudes; essentially, his conception of sabbatical observation does not equate to the popular, non theological understanding of Sabbath as rest and ... Instead, Heschel emphasizes the importance of the Sabbath as a moment of celebration of the majesty of holiness in time, a day by which observant Jews carve out holiness in the experiential moments of time amid the materialism of tangible space. Time particularly, sabbatical time thereby does not undermine the practical importance of labor and civilization, but instead grants meaning to these spatial elements. In short, as Heschel asserts, It is not a thing that lends significance to a moment; it is the moment that lends significance to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Literary Analysis Of Miss Brill In the short story Miss Brill an elderly woman sits in a park, romanticizing about all the possible scenarios that are taking place around her. This story has many central themes, the main one, of course, being perception. Miss Brill is a very perceptive woman, which is continuously showcased by her being able to pick up on, and closely observe, the different narratives transpiring in the park. Miss Brill was able to see the humour in these performances , however, ironically, she failed to see that she herself was the subject of a joke. Through continuously romanticizing reality, and focusing only on one s own point of view, one runs the risk of becoming oblivious to the way others view one s self. Aforementioned, Miss Brill, an elderly woman, sits in a park within walking distance of her residence, and observes. That is essentially the sum of the story, the shortened version. This is because she is likely very lonely, as shown by the author, literally in the name, Miss Brill. Not Ms. Brill, not Mrs. Brill, but Miss, which is done to emphasize that she is unmarried. The purpose of this is to point out that she doesn t have anyone of significance in her life and that she is probably lonely. This is important because it points out why someone, in their right mind, would want to sit around a park all day and watch people. Except she doesn t just watch them, she dreams up narratives and ponders the possible conversations they re having, and gives them a role to fill in her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Issue Of Illegal Immigrants No matter what a person s ethnicity or race may be, every person has thoughts, feelings, values, aspirations, needs, and desires. People are uncomfortable if someone else s values and culture are different from their own. The term for a group or community fearing another person s perspective and lifestyle is called ethnocentrism. Ethnocentrism is the reason that American citizen s highly debate and criticize illegal immigration, arguing that illegal immigrants are drug addicted thieves who thrive off of stealing American s jobs and harming the United States labor force and the economy. As the immigration rate progressively rise s it simultaneously concerns those who favor strict immigration laws and believe that illegal immigrants are harming the United States. However, these assumptions are hardly fact based and people fail to acknowledge that immigrants are human beings who only want to help and support their families. The reality is that without illegal immigrants, the United States would economically suffer. Actual data shows that immigration has a generally positive impact on a county s economy, what with immigrants doing work, paying taxes, spending their money in the country and all that. Even parts of our infrastructure on which the economy depends are owned by foreigners. Places where strong anti immigrant policies have been enacted usually suffer economic downturns as a result. It seems like stopping immigration to improve the economy is like hacking your foot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Foils of Hamlet Essay A foil is a minor character in a literary work that compliments the main character through similarities and differences in personality and plot. In William Shakespeare s play Hamlet , the main character, Hamlet, has three major foils. These foils are his close friend Horatio, Fortinbras, Prince of Norway, and the brother of his love, Laertes. These three characters contradict and enhance Hamlets major characteristics. Hamlet s friend Horatio is a foil for him because he brings out the revenge and betrayal in Hamlet. He is a listener for Hamlet. Horatio seems to be the only one who is sympathetic of Hamlet concerning the death of his father and his mother s quick remarriage. He is very loyal to Hamlet. Horatio, through... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Laertes also brings revenge and betrayal out of Hamlet. Though an enemy, Laertes is a foil to Hamlet. Laertes helps in the development of Hamlet through the similarities they share. These include anger over the death of their fathers, and desire to exact revenge. Betrayal is also relevant because Laertes betrays Claudius in the end, revealing his plan to kill Hamlet. Hamlet betrays his father by verbally abusing his mother, against the wishes of his father. The differences between the two men are very strong. Hamlet would not kill Claudius in the church because he was praying. Laertes, however stated that he would kill Hamlet in a church, praying or not. Another difference is that Hamlet cannot be a man of action and a man of thought at the same time. He does not use his mind when he acts. He just acts. When he is pondering something, he is unable to act out his thoughts, and keeps quiet. Laertes, however, is able to act while thinking. He finds out that Hamlet killed his father and immediately devises a plan to kill him. This flaw makes Hamlet dangerous to himself, and is ultimately his downfall. Through the different minor characters, the true feelings and personalities of the main character in a novel or a play come out. Hamlet s weaknesses, strengths, thoughts, and desires came out because of his relationships with others. Without Horatio, Fortinbras, or Laertes, the small aspects of Hamlet s ... Dickens description likens him to a ghost the fixed eyed saturnine face . angry sunset is used to add a fiery red light to his dark valley, which is shown with phrases such as his figure was foreshortened and shadowed , and again adding an element of mystery because the narrator says I had shaded my eyes with my hand before I saw him at all to first of all, introduce the spectre s gesture, but also to give the impression that the light doesn t reach the valley, but skims the top and he has to block it out to see into the darkness, and by using the word angry , he makes the sunlight seem almost intimidating in itself. He first plants the idea of the Signalman not being all he seems, in the readers minds when he says, as the Signalman looks down the Line, There was something remarkable in his manner of doing so, though I could not have said, for my life, what. But I know it was remarkable enough to attract my notice which suggests that he is not entirely normal. When the narrator asks about a path into the valley, he says the signalman looked up at me without replying here, he seems to be somewhat preoccupied and maybe wary of him. Dickens uses the phrase skimming away over the landscape , which sounds ghostly, to describe the vapour given off by the train. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Existentialism in Literature and Science Existentialism is the philosophical approach or theory that emphasizes an individual s existence as a free and responsible being determining his own development through acts of the will ( Existentialism ). What does that mean exactly? To make it easier to understand, that means humans as people are shaping their own destinies with every choice they make. That seems quite obvious, but to further understand the meaning of existentialism, it must be analyzed through the impacts it has had on both literature and scientific theories alike. The literary movement of existentialism is seen heavily in Franz Kafkas The Metamorphosis and Albert Camus The Stranger. In The Metamorphosis, the movement of his existentialism is gradual. Gregor Samsa, the protagonist, hates his job and he wishes to be free of all his social suffering. This is seen when he is transformed into a monstrous vermin (Kafka 3). His transformation symbolizes him being free of the social afflictions but his human like qualities also fade away and his meaning of lifeis taken away as well. Gregor now hardly ate anything anymore. Only when he accidentally passed the food laid out for him would he take a bite into his mouth just for fun, hold it in for hours, and then mostly spit it out again (45). After his family abandons him and he is ready to die, there really isn t a meaning to life by that time. The Metamorphosis emphasizes that one must interact with society in order for there to be a meaning to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
