The Southwest Is A Region Of The United States
The southwest is a region of the United States that makes our country unique. Without the
southwest, we would undoubtedly lack the spirit, hope, beauty, and truth that this vast region brings
to the rest of the United States as a whole. The southwest represents many things, such as
journeying, racism, violence, the clashing and cooperation of cultures, and spirituality, as well as
primitivism and pastoralism. All of these elements that the Southwest is comprised of is perhaps
the reason why the rest of the country feels so captivated by it; why the southwest is considered a
place to find yourself or to regenerate ; and why literature and film regarding the Southwest has
been and continues to be of the most popular genres. The westernfilm was one of the most popular
during the first half of the twentieth century. Audiences far and wide were mesmerized by actors
such as John Wayne and Roy Rogers, and their roles as heroes who fought to tame the American
frontier. This very concept, taming the frontier , gives way to a larger theme that was prevalent in
many western films and literature of the southwest: ubi sunt, or rather where are those who came
before us? . Director Sam Peckinpahs The Ballad of Cable Hogueportrays this idea better than any
other western film; the concept of ubi sunt is undeniably the film s overarching theme, clearly seen
through its components.
By conquering the frontier, characters in western films portray how they, as well as society at this

Change School Lunch
Why would you choose something the students will most likely disagree on when you can keep
what you have now. Why would you change the menu to healthier food when they are reason why
you should not. It is a bad choice to change the school lunch because the students might not eat the
food the type of foodyou are switching it to. For example, students will not eat the food if you do
decide to change it. They might not eat the food because they might not like it. They might not like
the taste of the certain food you are feeding them. Not eating the food can also led them to hate
eating healthy food everyday. The reason for that is they eat it everywhere they go including school,
at home, and anywhere else they go. The students also worry about they next day everyday. The
students can worry about it throughout the school day and ask themself if they are going to get
something different for once. When the students do not eat they can be consequences for it.
Next is it being a waste of time fixing the food. It is a waste of time because it is not getting
eaten by the students. The reason why it is getting wasted and thrown away is because they do not
like the food you switched it to. Some people may believe that it is a good idea to change school

Purpose Of The Sugar Act And The Stamp Act
The Sugar act and the Stamp act were two British laws that were passed by the British
Parliament. The sugar act was passed in the year of 1764 and in 1765, a year later the Stamp act
was passed. Both of these laws, the Stamp Act and the Sugar Act were created to raise a revenue
for the British. The Stamp Act was passed by the British Parliament and it meant that all taxes
were imposed on all of the American colonists. The Stamp Act was being targeted to regulating
trade and commerce. The Stamp Act required that all of the American Colonist pay tax on every
printed paper that was being used. Printed paper included things such as legal documents, licenses,
newspapers, and even playing cards to all be taxed. The tax money that was being collected by the
Stamp Act was all being used to help pay for the 10,000 troops that were to be located on the
American frontier by Appalachian Mountain.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Sugar Act was a revenue raising act that was passed by the British Parliament. The purpose
of the Sugar Act was to lower the tax on molasses to be able to persuade the importers to buy
more molasses from the British colonies instead of smuggling it from the French and the Spanish
colonies. The Molasses Act colonial merchants requires to pay a tax of six pence per gallon on
the importation of the foreign molasses. The Sugar Act then reduced the rate of tax on molasses
from six pence down to three pence per gallon. The Sugar Act also taxed additional foreign goods
such as wines, coffee and cambric. The Sugar Act was designed to maintain commerce and

Arguments Against Young Earth Creationism
Creationism View
When one is discovering a personal worldview, it is important to learn about how that perspective
looks for the beginning of time and the end of time. As a Christian, it is especially important to
understand what stance one should take on creationism. Looking at Genesis 1 2, one can see why
there is much controversy amongst the Christian community because there are several different
ways one can interpret these chapters. For example, some people believe the world was created in
six 24 hour days and these individuals are known as Young EarthCreationists. While others know
as Old Earth Creationists, believe that the earth was created over a longer period of time. Overall,
the main debate for the point of view on creationism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On this day, God planted the seeds into the world making His garden. Someone who believes in
Young Earth Creationism would believe that God sped up the process so everything would be
completed within 24 hours. According to Genesis 1:12 it says, the land produced vegetation:
plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to
their kinds. And God saw that it was good. (NIV). This scripture states that the land produced
vegetation which means that God did not speed up the process of making the vegetation grow
faster. Instead God let the earth do the work of growing. Going on with the argument against
Young Earth Creationism would be to look at the scriptures in Genesis 1:24 31 and Genesis 2:7
8. Here it talks about the sixth day of creation, on this day animals were created, Adam, and God
planted the Garden of Eden. Genesis 2:15 states that all the cattle, the birds of the sky, and every
beast in the field to Adam to name. God put Adam to sleep, took a piece from this side and
formed Eve. Adam exclaimed, Now at length (NIV). At length means now at last, indicating that
it has been a long period of time that Adam had gone without Eve. As humans we desire
connections with other human beings and we desire love. For Adam to become lonely within
just a few hours would not seem plausible. If we consider a day in time through the Old Earth
Creationism perspective; a single day relates to a thousand years, then it would seem more
plausible that Adam grew lonely during this period. Also, back in the Garden of Eden there were
over ten thousand animals. For Adam to name every single one of them in only a few short hours
would not make sense. (Old Earth

Operation Sovereign Borders
This report is directly concerned with the Australian Government s policies under Operation
Sovereign Borders, its Regional Resettlement Arrangement with Papua New Guinea (PNG), and the
Memorandum of Understanding with the Republic of Nauru, which remove, lesbian, gay, bisexual,
transgender and intersex (LGBTI) irregular maritime arrivals to countries where their fundamental
reason for seeking asylum persecution on grounds relating to their sexual orientation and/or gender
identity is sufficient cause for further persecution, and even criminal sanction, in the recipient
country. This report reveals that by transferring LGBTI asylum seekers to countries which intend to
persecute them on the same grounds for which they originally sought asylum, Australiais breaching
its international human rights obligations by directly undermining the principle of non refoulement .
To address these concerns and ensure that the rights of LGBTI asylum seekers are protected, the
Commission recommends that the Australian Government adopt an on shore processing solution
for irregular maritime arrivals. Due to the vulnerable position of sexual minorities in detention, the
Commission also urges the Government to implement community detention arrangements for all
LGBTI asylum seekers awaiting refugee status determination s (RSD). In addition, increased
opportunities for judicial review following negative RSD s, improved independent monitoring, the

should be screened for cervical cancer. Women age 30 65 should have a Pap (Papanicolaous)
smear done every three years or Pap smear in combination with human papillomavirus (HPV)
testing every 5 years (American CancerSociety [ACS], 2016). HPV is the leading cause of cervical
cancer. Smoking doubles a woman s risk of developing cervical cancer and it also weakens the
body s immune system to fight the HPV virus (ACS, 2017). Cervical cancer is the 4th most
commonly diagnosed cancer among women worldwide and the 14th in the U.S. (Kessler, 2017).

The study was done by performing a Pap smear, followed by a visual inspection with acetic acid,
and a colposcopy on all the subjects. Biopsies were done to those who had an abnormal result. A
histopathological diagnosis was used as gold standard for women for whom biopsies were
taken (Saleh, 2014). A larger study involving 256,648 women in multiple clinical practices in
the U.S. comparing Pap test alone vs co testing with HPV and HPV test alone showed that a
positive co test result has a better sensitivity (98.8%; 4040 of 4090 co tests) for diagnosing CIN3
than either a positive HPV only test (94%; 3845 of 4090 HPV only tests) or a positive Pap only
test (91.3%; 3734 of 4090 Pap only tests; P .0001). A high sensitivity means that the test is
capable of detecting those who have the disease. A positive Pap only result had a slightly better
specificity (26.3%; 66,145 of 251,715 Pap only tests) for diagnosing CIN3 than a positive HPV
only test (25.6%; 64,625 of 252,556 HPV only tests) or a positive co test (10.9%; 27,578 of
252,558 co tests; P .0001) (Blatt, Kennedy, Luff, Austin, Rabin, 2015). When performing a test
simultaneously like a co test, the specificity usually decreases because both tests have to show
negative results for the individual to be considered negative and the sensitivity increases because
an individual will be considered positive when either of the tests show positive. The results of the
three tests are very similar. This shows

Essay Locke vs. Williams
John Locke Vs. Bernard Williams
In this essay, I will be explaining John Locke s case of the prince and the cobbler and Bernard
Williams s second description of the A body person and the B body person. Bernard Williams has
the correct analysis of the situation where the body is part of self identity since it is inevitable for
us to fear future pain.
John Locke claims that memory is the key to identity, so as far [as] someone s memory goes, is
so far the identity of the person. (Campbell) First, Locke explains the concept of body swapping in
terms of the prince and the cobbler: the transfer of memories between the body of the prince and
the body of the cobbler would mean the people have swapped bodies. (Campbell) In this example,
the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, you are also told that you will have other another person s memories and character
traits. Surely, not remembering that you will be tortured and having your memories replaced by
someone else s memories, would not comfort you very much. Williams claims that this would
not alleviate your fear in the least since you can imagine not remembering whom you, where you
are, why you are there, and finding yourself undergoing torture. If anything, this would increase
your fear; and even more important is that it would still fear the future. Williams says that
nobody has changed bodies; all that has happened here is that there are two unfortunate
individuals, both has gone mad. (Campbell) The prince now has delusions of being a cobbler
and the cobbler has delusions of being the prince: same human being, same person. Williams
claims that if I, the prince, chose my body to be tortured, I would be selecting my own future
pain, even though a set of delusions (Campbell) has taken me over. Williams says this is an
equally legitimate way of describing the situation as Locke s way of describing it; the description
given seems to matters a great deal here. The two cases are related in that they are the same exact
situation. Locke and Williams both use two people in which they will swap memories. However,
the way they describe it, makes it entirely different. Locke

smoke ventilation Essay
Smoke Ventilation
Firefighters, lately defined as heroes, have a very exciting job and do some pretty amazing things.
My main interests however, is how firefighters ventilate heat and smoke from a structure fire. What
pieces of equipment do they use? How do they use those pieces of equipment? Why ventilation is
so important and why do they take certain precautions when using their equipment?
Growing up in the woods has made my life a lot more different than an average city slicker. You
see, I have a thing about fire. It is one thing that is very interesting to me. Some things that are
interesting about fire is that it grows very fast and it is very dangerous, but that never ... Show more

Ventilation removes heated air, smoke and gasses and replaces those with cooler air to help fight
a fire. In more simple terms it takes out bad air and brings in good air. If a firefighter can do that
then they have the ability to enter the structure to try and fight the fire from the inside rather from
the out side. There is a lot of good things the Smoke Ventilation does which helps firefighters to
gain access into a structure.
Ventilation is one of the first things that a firefighter will do when dealing with a structure fire. It is
the beginning step to try and control a fire. There are four different kinds of ventilation, vertical,
horizontal, natural and forced. Depending on the situation firefighters determine which way they
are going to approach the structure fire. Planning the ventilation process is very important when
dealing with safety, to the best of my knowledge. Something can and may go wrong if ventilation is
not planned and coordinated correctly.
Ventilation plays a big part in strategy and tactics and is something that firefighters always consider
when they have to deal with a structure fire or any type of situation that involves smoke, heat and
gas. When ventilation is done correctly it has many advantages that help firefighters to control the
situation. The

Essay On Mcl
Coming Back From an MCL Injury
When it comes to your ability to move around, participate in sports, and simply walk, your knee
joints are vital. The knee itself is made up of multiple ligaments, bones, and tendons and of all of
these different parts that need to work together to make the joint work. One of these parts is called
the medial collateral ligament or MCL. It is responsible for adding a little more stability to your
knee and leg as well as preventing your knee from bending in dangerous directions. If you are
noticing some pain in the inside portion of your knee or possibly you feel unsteady on one or both
of your feet you may have injured your MCL.
Symptoms
Your medial collateral ligament is on the inside part of each leg and... Show more content on

These may be signs of damage to your MCL and if you find yourself experiencing some of these,
you should probably have your knee and leg checked out by a medical professional.
Causes
Damaging the tissue of MCL can be common in sports, especially contact sports such as football.
Injuring this part of your knee may also commonly be the result of a direct hit or impact on the
outside of the lower leg and/or knee, which can cause the tissue on the inner side of the leg and
knee joint to stretch or even tear in more traumatic situations. This ligament can also end up being
damaged if the joint becomes hyperextended causing the tissue to stretch and possibly tear.
Treatment
Recovery from an MCL injury is not always fun but there are some things that you can do to help
speed it along and maybe make it a little less painful. Rest is usually always helpful when healing
from just about any injury and MCL injuries are no different, so rest as much as possible and try
to stay off your feet when you are able to. Using a compression brace on your knee might help to
improve blood flow and reduce swelling and it may also aid in reducing the pain you are probably
living with through the healing process.
Another thing that you might want to consider to aid in treating your pain may be ice. Icing the
area of your leg and knee that hurts could lower the level of pain you experience and it could help
lower the amount of swelling

indicator is also a good tool for comparing the current market to markets in the past because it has
been around for many years. The physiological importance that the Dow holds also increases its
significance greatly. The Dow is one of the highlights in financial news and even people not
familiar with the stock market have heard of it. The importance of the Dow in financial news
has a large influence over many people. The NASDAQ also holds a lot of significance as an
economic indicator. The main significance of the NASDAQ composite index is that it is a
representation of the stocks that are traded on the NASDAQ stock exchange. There is no other
exchange that has its own popular index. This index is also very important because it represents
a large portion of tech and innovative companies. The NASDAQ is a very good indicator of how
the tech segments of the market are doing. The NASDAQ composite index is also the NASDAQ

significant because of how people base the state of the stock market on the state of the index. The

Disadvantages Of Mutual Funds
Mutual funds are investment plans that let you to pool your money together with additional
investors to purchase a collection of securities that might be difficult to recreate on your own.
This is often referred to like a portfolio. The price of the mutual fund, also recognized as its net
asset value is determined by the total value of the securities in the portfolio, divided by the number
of the fund s unsettled shares. This price varies based on the value of the securities held by the
portfolio at the end of every business day. Note that mutual fundinvestors do not really own the
securities in which the fund invests; they only own shares in the fund itself.

that there are so many warning signs presented to Jonathan Harker as he makes his way to
Transylvania and at the beginning of his stay at Count Dracula s house. For example, all the
superstitious reactions from the villagers, the very strange ride up to the castle, the lack of servants,
and Count Draculas odd demeanor. All of these things should cause alarm in Harker, yet he

Assessing the Impacts of Hurricane Katrina and the Macondo...
Oil spills are usually associated with environmental disasters; because of this the Oil Pollution Act
of 1990 and related policies have inadequate amount of tools that will help humans deal with these
accidents. When the Macondo blow out happened, we had to assess the impact that it also had on
human health, mental and physical because it had affected a large area. The Macondo spill
unfortunately happened less than five years after Hurricane Katrina damaged Louisianaand
Mississippi coast. Clearly, a lesson that was learnt from the oil spillwas that the nation wasn t
prepared for widespread, poor effects on human health and mental well being. Most of the
communities along the Gulf had resided there for the majority of their lives or at least 20 years; this
oil spill had worried the residents about payments, money issues, and the stability of their
communities, which in turn affected their health.
From what happened during Hurricane Katrina and now the oil spill, speakers Sharon Gauthe and
Gracie Scire are really trying to stress the importance of the need for additional community mental
health services. The citizens are trying to cope with physical ailments and stress and even though
the health agencies issued personal protective equipment guidelines for response workers and
created a registry of these newly trained personnel, they missed the crucial window for screening
their baseline physical health before the workers were directly exposed to oil products; Industry and

In document B and C, separation of powers of the three branches, legislative, judicial, and
executive, ensures that not one power is greater than the other. However, as a form of checks and
balances, the branches should not be separated to the point of having no constitutional control over
each other. Madison stated Liberty requires that the three great departments of power should be
separate and distinct. (Federalist paper #51) but ..they may be a check on the other (Federalist paper
#51) meaning that the three branches have separate powers, but are able to have constitutional
control on each other. For example, Legislative branch can approve the presidential nomination,
override a president s veto, and impeach the president from the executive branch while the senate
confirms the president s nominations for the judges and remove them from the office from the
judicial branch . While, the executive branch can veto the congressional legislation from the
legislative branch and nominate judges for the judicial branch. The judicial branch can declare
presidential acts unconstitutional in the executive branch and declare laws unconstitutional to the
legislative branch. (Document C). Framer guarded against tyranny through separation of powers
but still being able to check on each other and having constitutional control on each other. The
branches should be separate and distinct as if they were together, it would be given too much
absolute power to one group. Checks and balances illustrates how the constitution guarded against
tyranny because the three branches have fair opportunity to stop the other branches from
committing an unconstitutional act. Additionally to how checks and balances the constitution from

The Rise Of Silas Lapham
Realism is the theory of writing in which the ordinary, familiar, or dull traits of life are portrayed
in a straight forward manner that reflects life as it actually is. Multiple works of literature show
some type of Realism. Realism started its rise in the United States in 1865 and ended in the
early 1900 s. Realistic writers would set their stories in specific American regions trying to
capture the local traditions before they would be forgotten. They wrote about the grim realities
of everyday life. These grim realities are shown in Mark Twain s The War Prayer. Twain exhibits
the truth about warfare and all the chaos that happens while fighting. Mark Twain was not blind
when it came to the realities of war in the United States. Mark Twain was not the only great
Realist of his time. William Dean Howells, Henry James, and George Eliot were other successful
Realist writers during the 19th Century. Howells was an early advocate of Realism. Howells wrote

ended in a financial crash. George Eliot was another successful Realist writer. Eliot believed that

connection has not been dealt with fully. Yeats s later work can, more accurately be read and

connection with Nietzsche is not simply a matter of literary influence; both of them are united by a

Essay On Landlords
Saving Drains From Tenant Tyranny: 10 Ways Landlords Can Keep Their Plumbing Clog Free
Owning rental property can be rewarding and lucrative, but it can sometimes be one headache after
another, especially if tenants misuse or abuse your apartments. Clogged pipes are one instance
where being a landlord can literally drain your time and money to no end. Here are 10 helpful ways
to avoid that mess, once and for all.
1. Specify Who Is Responsible For Clogs In The Lease
You should include a clause in the lease your tenants sign, indicating if they or you will be
responsible for drain cleaning and clogs. Failure to include this information will likely leave you
on the hook every time a slight issue arises with drains. Be sure to read this ... Show more content

This preventative action, too, will work in your favor if the next tenant tries to complain that
persistent clogging is a result of your inaction.
4. Stock Up On Drain Screens For Your Tubs
Drain screens are cheap and easy to store and while you don t want to make a habit of buying
things your tenants should be buying themselves, having extra screens on hand may be worthwhile
if doing so prevents those annoying and often time consuming clogs. You could limit the number of
free screens you provide each tenant, but since you can t force them to buy their own, giving them
away will likely save you money and time in the long run.
5. Equip Washing Machine Hoses With Lint Catchers
If you own washing machines on the property, be sure and equip them all with lint catchers. This
will eliminate a lot of added debris from entering the system and potentially causing more clogs.
6. Never Rinse Your Carpenter Tools In The Sinks
Whether you or hired professionals take care of re grouting, caulking and other carpentry jobs at
your rental units, make sure no one ever uses the sinks to rinse tools off. Even when it s only done
occasionally, all that goop going down the drains can add up to costly clogs later.
7. Clean Pop Up Stoppers Regularly
All of your bathroom sinks should have pop up stoppers in them and it s a good idea for you (or

I took a new approach with this project, where I thought about what type of room I was making
the shade for, as a person will have different lighting needs for each room, and shades should vary
based on that purpose. Many of the designs I saw were similar in their shape, but it was the
decoration that varied. I took a bedroom light shade as my challenge, where I wanted to make a
shade that could create a soft light, where the light would not shine directly down, but rather
flow to the ceiling and around. The shape itself was quite simple; a truncated cone which would
hang from the ceiling, with a smaller cone placed inside. The idea was that the majority of the
light would reflect back towards the ceiling, where it could fill the room, while a small amount
would come through the small gap between the cones. With this project, I made a similar task
for myself, to make a Christmas themed lantern. This was to explore the possible functions of
lighting and lamp shades, as well as how form follows function, so while my plan was to create
a decorative lantern with a Christmas look; it wasn t difficult for the form to create itself. I
sketched a winter village on some card with a black pen for the shade, many pin sized holes were
made in specific locations to highlight the drawing, and it was then made to a cylinder where I
made a cap to block the light. The light

Synopsis Of A Poem Rhyme
Hye Jung Yang
Dr. Solomon
ENGL 2530 C
April 2, 2015
History of Rhyme These days, many songs repeat the same sounds again and again. Also,
singers and songwriters say it is really important to create songs that are catchy and that
everyone can sing along to easily. Most songs that are popular worldwide are easy to remember
because they constantly repeat the same sounds. The repeating sound is referred to as rhyme ,
and according to Cambridge dictionary it means two or more words with the same final sound,
or the use of such words, especially at the end of lines in a poem or song. The Billboard charts
show weekly population of songs or albums in the United States. If a song were placed in high
rank on this chart, it would mean the song is popular in world not only in the United States but
worldwide. After learning this, I checked some of the song lyrics that had high ranks, and I
noticed the songs have a lot of rhymes. Moreover, Songs are not the only type of media that uses
words that rhyme. As Paul Muldoon said fifty percent of television ads use rhymes. The rhyme is
around us at all times. People just do not realize because rhyme comes naturally to everyone. I
actually thought the word Rhyme scheme was created in the twenty first century. However, I
realized that is not true after I learned about the sonnet in class. Usually, sonnets use rhymes a lot.
There are two major rhyme schemes on sonnet: Petrarchan (or Italian) sonnet and Shakespearean (or

Heather King doesn t have any resources that the operations department needs, thus she doesn t
have any power to direct their actions.
Heather King is making demands to Dennis Green and Sandra Mirano, but she is not their
superior and they are not in the same department. Dennis Green and Sandra Mirano s manager is
Bob Shaw. An employee should only have one manager. Dennis Green s behavior of verbally
attacking Heather King is inappropriate and unprofessional given that Heather King has a higher
rank, but his behavior is understandable. He may have just been acting out of frustration from
having to deal with different managers. As the purchasing manager, he does have a need to feel in
control of his responsibilities. Heather King had reasons to bypass Dennis Green, but by doing so,

M1 Abrams Tank Research Paper
The topic of this paper will be a brief history on the production and combat operations of the M1
Abrams tank. A very versatile and combat effective piece of equipment added to the United States
Army s inventory. It is young compared to the total age of the United Stated military, but it is a
tried and true piece of equipment. The Chrysler Corporation has had ties to military tank
development and production that go all the way to World War II. However, the M1 Abrams
Main
Battle Tank came into production much later. In 1973, the Department of Defense realized it had a
greater need for a new and improved tank model. Thus, the Chrysler Defense Division began
developing tanks to compete with the M60. In 1976, the XM 1 prototype... Show more content on

Free Speech For Sale Essay
Under the constitution, every American has the right of free speech, but does free speech matter
if no one can hear it? Free Speech for sale reveals the painful truth that free speech, and the
certainty that one will be heard, is guaranteed only to those who can afford it. And corporations
can afford it. Whether through purchasing massive amounts of advertising for political purposes,
or by owning the companies that bring people the news, powerful corporations are able to drown
out the voices that disagree with them and it s all perfectly legal. To me, this situation calls into
question how true our democracy really is. Are we as the voters receiving the thorough
information we need to make decisions? Or are we being fed censored or... Show more content on

The news organizations they own barely bothered to report on this pending legislation even as
the corporate owners (NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox) were lobbying Congress hard for what
amounted to a corporate giveaway estimated to be worth $70 billion. This definitely deals with
special interests, and what a corporation, or in this case corporations, will do to protect them. The
act was passed because of the corporations giving money to members of Congress. Sure it may
seem a bit manipulative, but it is totally legal under the constitution.
Media corporations have been merging into fewer (and larger) entities which are better able to
control the flow of information to the public. Because of their size and power, they can prevent
unfavorable coverage of their activities in the media outlets they own. In 1983, 50 corporations
controlled the vast majority of all news media in the U.S. In 1992, fewer than two dozen of these
corporations owned and operated 90% of the mass media; controlling almost all of America s
newspapers, magazines, TV and radio stations, books, records, movies, videos, wire services and
photo agencies. Now only 5 huge corporations Time Warner, Disney, Murdoch s News
Corporation, Bertelsmann of Germany, and Viacom (formerly CBS) now control most of the
media industry in the U.S. General Electric s NBC is a close sixth. Democracy can t exist without
an informed public. We rely on unbiased news from independent

Essay on Discrimination in The Merchant of Venice
Discrimination is a resounding theme in The Merchant of Venice (Meyers). All of the characters
are affected by inequality. This inequity is evidenced clearly in Shylock, the Jewish usurer. He is
treated with scorn and derision by all the characters. Shylock s misfortunes stem not from poor
attributes or even a poor background; it stems from the fact he is Jewish, and what is more, he is
impenitent of that distinction. If he had been more daunted by Christian influence, he might have
been forgiven, as Jessica is subjectively exonerated. He is not contrite and it is believed that his
appalling birth cannot be absolved (Bonnell).

As it is, all she can do to maintain her father s estate is to follow the decrees of the lottery to the
letter. If she refuses to follow all of the instructions of the lottery, she loses her inheritance. Portiais
no fool; she comprehends the importance of financial security, a quality that is woefully wanting in
her male counterparts.
The cycle of hatred and animosity are evident in The Merchant of Venicemost clearly through
Jessica s deplorable treachery of Shylock (Blanchard). The theft of his money and jewels was
considered by the Christians a credit to her integrity rather than the consummate maliciousness
it truly is. She is absolved from any culpability for her betrayal of Shylock; she is praised for her
ability to deceive and defraud her father in a culture that sanctioned paternal piety (Picker). She
marries the Christian Lorenzo in hopes of improved egalitarianism; she soon discovers that this
will not be the case. Her profound guilt and strict upbringing as a Jewish female are revealed in
the conversation between herself and Lorenzo: Jessica: I am never merry when I hear sweet
music. Lorenzo: The man that hath no music in himself, Nor is moved with concord to sweet
sounds, Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils The motions of his spirit are as dull as night, And
his affections are as dark as Erebus. Let no such man be trusted.

Unstructured Data
Abstract Resumes are shared online significantly due to the widespread presence of the job
websites. Normally, resumes do not have a structured format, which makes it difficult for the
organizations to parse and extract information automatically. In this research, a novel methodology
is presented for converting the relevant information from resume and the corresponding sentiments
from Twitter to a structured format. Initially, the relevant information is extracted from the resume
files. The behavior pattern from Twitter for each candidate is also extracted using sentiment
analysis on their posts. Finally, this is combined with the extracted information from the resume

Also, most organizations and companies receive thousands of resumes from job seekers online. It
is difficult to extract relevant information from a resume because of its unstructured and
nonstandard structure. Also, it comes in different file types such as PDF, DOC, etc. This makes
the information extraction even more challenging. With the dramatic growth of social media, a
considerable amount of data becomes available to be exploited by many companies,
organizations, and researchers based on their interests. The candidate s behavior pattern could be
extracted from the social media where candidates share their opinion on various topics of interest.
In this research, the focus is to combine the candidate s information extracted from resume with
the sentiment analysis from Twitter and to convert to a structured format. This will give the
organization with a better understanding of the candidate. This paper includes the following
sections: Section II provides related work for analyzing and structuring resume data as well as
extracting data from Twitter. The methodology for extraction of data is given in Section III.
Section IV discusses the simulation results and Section V contains the conclusion and future work.

Essay on The Tale of Genji by Murasaki Shikibu
Being a student interested in the field of biology, one knows that studying life in the past plays an
important role in the history of organisms that lived on this earth. Similarly, being Japanese,
studying the past of how Japanese were plays an important role in Japanese history. Despite all the
general aspects of life that have changed from the Heian period, the one idea that has definitely not
changed is the romantic relationships between a man and woman. Though the general concept is the
same, from reading The Tale of Genji, it is what was considered the ideal woman and ideal man that
were both surprising and thus worth discussing. Written around 978 by Murasaki Shikibu, The Tale
of Genji, regarded as the world s first... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, as To no Chujo pointed out (Shikibu 21), women that are high rank, have a lot of
people that serve them and make them look better than they are so that a man cannot really
know what kind of personality she may have. Middle rank women on the other hand, have less
hidden about her, and so one can tell what kind of woman she is. This is probably because
middle rank women do not have as much pressure to look good as high rank women have and
because they are not expected to be as great. Thus in this way they are not pampered as much
and in a sense show their true colors. From this it can be concluded that the ideal woman if it
were possible, would be someone that was high rank, but also had a good personality that was not
just made to seem good but her servants. For a woman to have a good personality is definitely an
understandable character, but what constituted good personality and character? The Chief Equerry,
an older man with more experience in matters with women in comparison to To no Chujo and
Genji, explained that the woman s main duty is to look after her husband and the household
(Shikibu 23). Thus the ideal woman would be one who was educated and smart enough to take
care of the household including preparing a fresh set of clothes after her husband returns from
journey, and keeping the house tidy and clean. She should not have to ask her husband for every
little thing that needs to be done because that would just waste

Abstract
Background: Although endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy (ETS) offers permanent cure of palmar
hyperhidrosis (PH), compensatory hyperhidrosis (CH) often complicates the procedure. We
analyzed the outcomes of 2 months interval unilateral sequential sympathectomy (S ETS) in
comparison with bilateral simultaneous sympathectomy (B ETS) notably regarding compensatory
and associated planter hyperhidrosis in treating patients with PH.
Methods: Four hundred and seven patients with intractable palmar hyperhidrosis were randomly
assigned into two groups: B ETS group (204 patients), and S ETS group (203 patients).

It s Time To Stop Animal Testing And Killing Animals
Stop all testing and breeding of any animals of all kinds. Animal testing is not beneficial because
they cause animals pain. They breed animals for testing and for research for checking if an
experiment goes right. Most animals are killed during the testings. We shouldn t have testing
because of that. Giving animals pain isn t right. Scientists use needles and don t relieve the pain
they caused the animal. Animals that are given little to none to relieve the pain many animals may
still might experience the pain. U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulate the
developments of new medications to be used on animals that might be later used to help humans.
People breed animals for testing and that s not right. Scientists purchase the animals from breeders
to be used in research. Primates, dogs, cats, are less than 1% of the animals used in testings. Also,
scientists buy purpose animals from USDA licensed breeders or they ... Show more content on

confined to barren cages, socially isolated, and psychologically traumatized. In conclusion,
scientists and researchers shouldn t test on animals because it hurts them hurts them. When
scientists make animals have pain and the react to it they continue to cause them more pain. Most
scientists and researchers buy and breed animals to do tests on them and they shouldn t because it
isn t right and they have no right to do so. When most animals are tested on they die or get really

  • 3. The Southwest Is A Region Of The United States The southwest is a region of the United States that makes our country unique. Without the southwest, we would undoubtedly lack the spirit, hope, beauty, and truth that this vast region brings to the rest of the United States as a whole. The southwest represents many things, such as journeying, racism, violence, the clashing and cooperation of cultures, and spirituality, as well as primitivism and pastoralism. All of these elements that the Southwest is comprised of is perhaps the reason why the rest of the country feels so captivated by it; why the southwest is considered a place to find yourself or to regenerate ; and why literature and film regarding the Southwest has been and continues to be of the most popular genres. The westernfilm was one of the most popular during the first half of the twentieth century. Audiences far and wide were mesmerized by actors such as John Wayne and Roy Rogers, and their roles as heroes who fought to tame the American frontier. This very concept, taming the frontier , gives way to a larger theme that was prevalent in many western films and literature of the southwest: ubi sunt, or rather where are those who came before us? . Director Sam Peckinpahs The Ballad of Cable Hogueportrays this idea better than any other western film; the concept of ubi sunt is undeniably the film s overarching theme, clearly seen through its components. By conquering the frontier, characters in western films portray how they, as well as society at this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Why would you change the menu to healthier food when they are reason why you should not. It is a bad choice to change the school lunch because the students might not eat the food the type of foodyou are switching it to. For example, students will not eat the food if you do decide to change it. They might not eat the food because they might not like it. They might not like the taste of the certain food you are feeding them. Not eating the food can also led them to hate eating healthy food everyday. The reason for that is they eat it everywhere they go including school, at home, and anywhere else they go. The students also worry about they next day everyday. The students can worry about it throughout the school day and ask themself if they are going to get something different for once. When the students do not eat they can be consequences for it. Next is it being a waste of time fixing the food. It is a waste of time because it is not getting eaten by the students. The reason why it is getting wasted and thrown away is because they do not like the food you switched it to. The sugar act was passed in the year of 1764 and in 1765, a year later the Stamp act was passed. Both of these laws, the Stamp Act and the Sugar Act were created to raise a revenue for the British. The Stamp Act was passed by the British Parliament and it meant that all taxes were imposed on all of the American colonists. The Stamp Act was being targeted to regulating trade and commerce. The Stamp Act required that all of the American Colonist pay tax on every printed paper that was being used. Printed paper included things such as legal documents, licenses, newspapers, and even playing cards to all be taxed. The tax money that was being collected by the Stamp Act was all being used to help pay for the 10,000 troops that were to be located on the American frontier by Appalachian Mountain.... • 6. Arguments Against Young Earth Creationism Creationism View When one is discovering a personal worldview, it is important to learn about how that perspective looks for the beginning of time and the end of time. As a Christian, it is especially important to understand what stance one should take on creationism. Looking at Genesis 1 2, one can see why there is much controversy amongst the Christian community because there are several different ways one can interpret these chapters. For example, some people believe the world was created in six 24 hour days and these individuals are known as Young EarthCreationists. While others know as Old Earth Creationists, believe that the earth was created over a longer period of time. Overall, the main debate for the point of view on creationism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On this day, God planted the seeds into the world making His garden. Someone who believes in Young Earth Creationism would believe that God sped up the process so everything would be completed within 24 hours. According to Genesis 1:12 it says, the land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. (NIV). This scripture states that the land produced vegetation which means that God did not speed up the process of making the vegetation grow faster. Instead God let the earth do the work of growing. Going on with the argument against Young Earth Creationism would be to look at the scriptures in Genesis 1:24 31 and Genesis 2:7 8. Here it talks about the sixth day of creation, on this day animals were created, Adam, and God planted the Garden of Eden. Genesis 2:15 states that all the cattle, the birds of the sky, and every beast in the field to Adam to name. God put Adam to sleep, took a piece from this side and formed Eve. Adam exclaimed, Now at length (NIV). At length means now at last, indicating that it has been a long period of time that Adam had gone without Eve. As humans we desire connections with other human beings and we desire love. For Adam to become lonely within just a few hours would not seem plausible. If we consider a day in time through the Old Earth Creationism perspective; a single day relates to a thousand years, then it would seem more plausible that Adam grew lonely during this period. Also, back in the Garden of Eden there were over ten thousand animals. For Adam to name every single one of them in only a few short hours would not make sense. (Old Earth ... • 7. Operation Sovereign Borders This report is directly concerned with the Australian Government s policies under Operation Sovereign Borders, its Regional Resettlement Arrangement with Papua New Guinea (PNG), and the Memorandum of Understanding with the Republic of Nauru, which remove, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) irregular maritime arrivals to countries where their fundamental reason for seeking asylum persecution on grounds relating to their sexual orientation and/or gender identity is sufficient cause for further persecution, and even criminal sanction, in the recipient country. This report reveals that by transferring LGBTI asylum seekers to countries which intend to persecute them on the same grounds for which they originally sought asylum, Australiais breaching its international human rights obligations by directly undermining the principle of non refoulement . To address these concerns and ensure that the rights of LGBTI asylum seekers are protected, the Commission recommends that the Australian Government adopt an on shore processing solution for irregular maritime arrivals. Due to the vulnerable position of sexual minorities in detention, the Commission also urges the Government to implement community detention arrangements for all LGBTI asylum seekers awaiting refugee status determination s (RSD). In addition, increased opportunities for judicial review following negative RSD s, improved independent monitoring, the development of guidelines on LGBTI ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Ceervical Cancer Case Study Good Evening Dr. Anttila and Class, Based on Shelby s age, smoking, and medical history, she should be screened for cervical cancer. Women age 30 65 should have a Pap (Papanicolaous) smear done every three years or Pap smear in combination with human papillomavirus (HPV) testing every 5 years (American CancerSociety [ACS], 2016). HPV is the leading cause of cervical cancer. Smoking doubles a woman s risk of developing cervical cancer and it also weakens the body s immune system to fight the HPV virus (ACS, 2017). Cervical cancer is the 4th most commonly diagnosed cancer among women worldwide and the 14th in the U.S. (Kessler, 2017). This year the cervical cancer prevalence was estimated to be 256,078 and incidence was 12,820 in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The study was done by performing a Pap smear, followed by a visual inspection with acetic acid, and a colposcopy on all the subjects. Biopsies were done to those who had an abnormal result. A histopathological diagnosis was used as gold standard for women for whom biopsies were taken (Saleh, 2014). A larger study involving 256,648 women in multiple clinical practices in the U.S. comparing Pap test alone vs co testing with HPV and HPV test alone showed that a positive co test result has a better sensitivity (98.8%; 4040 of 4090 co tests) for diagnosing CIN3 than either a positive HPV only test (94%; 3845 of 4090 HPV only tests) or a positive Pap only test (91.3%; 3734 of 4090 Pap only tests; P .0001). A high sensitivity means that the test is capable of detecting those who have the disease. A positive Pap only result had a slightly better specificity (26.3%; 66,145 of 251,715 Pap only tests) for diagnosing CIN3 than a positive HPV only test (25.6%; 64,625 of 252,556 HPV only tests) or a positive co test (10.9%; 27,578 of 252,558 co tests; P .0001) (Blatt, Kennedy, Luff, Austin, Rabin, 2015). When performing a test simultaneously like a co test, the specificity usually decreases because both tests have to show negative results for the individual to be considered negative and the sensitivity increases because an individual will be considered positive when either of the tests show positive. The results of the three tests are very similar. This shows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Essay Locke vs. Williams John Locke Vs. Bernard Williams In this essay, I will be explaining John Locke s case of the prince and the cobbler and Bernard Williams s second description of the A body person and the B body person. Bernard Williams has the correct analysis of the situation where the body is part of self identity since it is inevitable for us to fear future pain. John Locke claims that memory is the key to identity, so as far [as] someone s memory goes, is so far the identity of the person. (Campbell) First, Locke explains the concept of body swapping in terms of the prince and the cobbler: the transfer of memories between the body of the prince and the body of the cobbler would mean the people have swapped bodies. (Campbell) In this example, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, you are also told that you will have other another person s memories and character traits. Surely, not remembering that you will be tortured and having your memories replaced by someone else s memories, would not comfort you very much. Williams claims that this would not alleviate your fear in the least since you can imagine not remembering whom you, where you are, why you are there, and finding yourself undergoing torture. If anything, this would increase your fear; and even more important is that it would still fear the future. Williams says that nobody has changed bodies; all that has happened here is that there are two unfortunate individuals, both has gone mad. (Campbell) The prince now has delusions of being a cobbler and the cobbler has delusions of being the prince: same human being, same person. Williams claims that if I, the prince, chose my body to be tortured, I would be selecting my own future pain, even though a set of delusions (Campbell) has taken me over. Williams says this is an equally legitimate way of describing the situation as Locke s way of describing it; the description given seems to matters a great deal here. The two cases are related in that they are the same exact situation. Locke and Williams both use two people in which they will swap memories. However, the way they describe it, makes it entirely different. Locke ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. smoke ventilation Essay Smoke Ventilation Firefighters, lately defined as heroes, have a very exciting job and do some pretty amazing things. My main interests however, is how firefighters ventilate heat and smoke from a structure fire. What pieces of equipment do they use? How do they use those pieces of equipment? Why ventilation is so important and why do they take certain precautions when using their equipment? Growing up in the woods has made my life a lot more different than an average city slicker. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ventilation removes heated air, smoke and gasses and replaces those with cooler air to help fight a fire. In more simple terms it takes out bad air and brings in good air. If a firefighter can do that then they have the ability to enter the structure to try and fight the fire from the inside rather from the out side. There is a lot of good things the Smoke Ventilation does which helps firefighters to gain access into a structure. Ventilation is one of the first things that a firefighter will do when dealing with a structure fire. It is the beginning step to try and control a fire. There are four different kinds of ventilation, vertical, horizontal, natural and forced. Depending on the situation firefighters determine which way they are going to approach the structure fire. Planning the ventilation process is very important when dealing with safety, to the best of my knowledge. Something can and may go wrong if ventilation is not planned and coordinated correctly. Ventilation plays a big part in strategy and tactics and is something that firefighters always consider when they have to deal with a structure fire or any type of situation that involves smoke, heat and gas. When ventilation is done correctly it has many advantages that help firefighters to control the situation. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Essay On Mcl Coming Back From an MCL Injury When it comes to your ability to move around, participate in sports, and simply walk, your knee joints are vital. The knee itself is made up of multiple ligaments, bones, and tendons and of all of these different parts that need to work together to make the joint work. One of these parts is called the medial collateral ligament or MCL. It is responsible for adding a little more stability to your knee and leg as well as preventing your knee from bending in dangerous directions. If you are noticing some pain in the inside portion of your knee or possibly you feel unsteady on one or both of your feet you may have injured your MCL. Symptoms Your medial collateral ligament is on the inside part of each leg and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These may be signs of damage to your MCL and if you find yourself experiencing some of these, you should probably have your knee and leg checked out by a medical professional. Causes Damaging the tissue of MCL can be common in sports, especially contact sports such as football. Injuring this part of your knee may also commonly be the result of a direct hit or impact on the outside of the lower leg and/or knee, which can cause the tissue on the inner side of the leg and knee joint to stretch or even tear in more traumatic situations. This ligament can also end up being damaged if the joint becomes hyperextended causing the tissue to stretch and possibly tear. Treatment Recovery from an MCL injury is not always fun but there are some things that you can do to help speed it along and maybe make it a little less painful. Rest is usually always helpful when healing from just about any injury and MCL injuries are no different, so rest as much as possible and try to stay off your feet when you are able to. Using a compression brace on your knee might help to improve blood flow and reduce swelling and it may also aid in reducing the pain you are probably living with through the healing process. Another thing that you might want to consider to aid in treating your pain may be ice. Icing the area of your leg and knee that hurts could lower the level of pain you experience and it could help lower the amount of swelling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For example, all the superstitious reactions from the villagers, the very strange ride up to the castle, the lack of servants, and Count Draculas odd demeanor. All of these things should cause alarm in Harker, yet he continues on with his task anyway. I wonder what makes him ignore these obvious signs? Essay On Landlords Saving Drains From Tenant Tyranny: 10 Ways Landlords Can Keep Their Plumbing Clog Free Owning rental property can be rewarding and lucrative, but it can sometimes be one headache after another, especially if tenants misuse or abuse your apartments. Clogged pipes are one instance where being a landlord can literally drain your time and money to no end. Here are 10 helpful ways to avoid that mess, once and for all. 1. Specify Who Is Responsible For Clogs In The Lease You should include a clause in the lease your tenants sign, indicating if they or you will be responsible for drain cleaning and clogs. Failure to include this information will likely leave you on the hook every time a slight issue arises with drains. Be sure to read this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stock Up On Drain Screens For Your Tubs Drain screens are cheap and easy to store and while you don t want to make a habit of buying things your tenants should be buying themselves, having extra screens on hand may be worthwhile if doing so prevents those annoying and often time consuming clogs. You could limit the number of free screens you provide each tenant, but since you can t force them to buy their own, giving them away will likely save you money and time in the long run. 5. Equip Washing Machine Hoses With Lint Catchers If you own washing machines on the property, be sure and equip them all with lint catchers. This will eliminate a lot of added debris from entering the system and potentially causing more clogs. 6. Never Rinse Your Carpenter Tools In The Sinks Whether you or hired professionals take care of re grouting, caulking and other carpentry jobs at your rental units, make sure no one ever uses the sinks to rinse tools off. Even when it s only done occasionally, all that goop going down the drains can add up to costly clogs later. 7. Such examinations of history show that lessons can be learned from the varying disciplines focused on the forms and functions of designs; where different designers take different standings on what is the appropriate form for the desired function. Burkey Belser, an information designer, discusses contemporary design, and that The mirror has shattered and fragments of design movements are now strong, moving in parallel streams . (Belser 2002) This statement shows the drift caused in design through history and the increase in individualism that now exists. Examples can be seen in all aspects of design, where... I took a new approach with this project, where I thought about what type of room I was making the shade for, as a person will have different lighting needs for each room, and shades should vary based on that purpose. Many of the designs I saw were similar in their shape, but it was the decoration that varied. I took a bedroom light shade as my challenge, where I wanted to make a shade that could create a soft light, where the light would not shine directly down, but rather flow to the ceiling and around. The shape itself was quite simple; a truncated cone which would hang from the ceiling, with a smaller cone placed inside. The idea was that the majority of the light would reflect back towards the ceiling, where it could fill the room, while a small amount would come through the small gap between the cones. With this project, I made a similar task for myself, to make a Christmas themed lantern. This was to explore the possible functions of lighting and lamp shades, as well as how form follows function, so while my plan was to create a decorative lantern with a Christmas look; it wasn t difficult for the form to create itself. I sketched a winter village on some card with a black pen for the shade, many pin sized holes were made in specific locations to highlight the drawing, and it was then made to a cylinder where I made a cap to block the light. • 38. Synopsis Of A Poem Rhyme Hye Jung Yang Dr. Solomon ENGL 2530 C April 2, 2015 History of Rhyme These days, many songs repeat the same sounds again and again. Also, singers and songwriters say it is really important to create songs that are catchy and that everyone can sing along to easily. Most songs that are popular worldwide are easy to remember because they constantly repeat the same sounds. The repeating sound is referred to as rhyme , and according to Cambridge dictionary it means two or more words with the same final sound, or the use of such words, especially at the end of lines in a poem or song. The Billboard charts show weekly population of songs or albums in the United States. If a song were placed in high rank on this chart, it would mean the song is popular in world not only in the United States but worldwide. After learning this, I checked some of the song lyrics that had high ranks, and I noticed the songs have a lot of rhymes. Moreover, Songs are not the only type of media that uses words that rhyme. As Paul Muldoon said fifty percent of television ads use rhymes. The rhyme is around us at all times. People just do not realize because rhyme comes naturally to everyone. I actually thought the word Rhyme scheme was created in the twenty first century. However, I realized that is not true after I learned about the sonnet in class. Usually, sonnets use rhymes a lot. There are two major rhyme schemes on sonnet: Petrarchan (or Italian) sonnet and Shakespearean (or English) Sonnet. Both ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How can the communications between the operations department and Elegante division be improved for better coordination? II. The company is directed by Ralph Nolk and has four distinctive product lines each headed by a general manager. Heather King is the general manager of the Elegante Division in Toronto, Canada. Heather King is making demands to Dennis Green and Sandra Mirano, but she is not their superior and they are not in the same department. Dennis Green and Sandra Mirano s manager is Bob Shaw. An employee should only have one manager. Dennis Green s behavior of verbally attacking Heather King is inappropriate and unprofessional given that Heather King has a higher rank, but his behavior is understandable. He may have just been acting out of frustration from having to deal with different managers. As the purchasing manager, he does have a need to feel in control of his responsibilities. Heather King had reasons to bypass Dennis Green, but by doing so, she became a threat to his territory. When people feel threatened, they can become hostile and angry. III. Alternatives and Evaluation of Alternatives Alternative 1: Heather King can bring up the issue to Ralph Nolk. As the Managing Director superior to Bob Shaw, Ralph Nolk has the formal power to influence the operations department to coordinate with Heather King. Ralph Nolk has the resources that the operations department needs, thus he has power over their actions.

Free Speech for sale reveals the painful truth that free speech, and the certainty that one will be heard, is guaranteed only to those who can afford it. And corporations can afford it. Whether through purchasing massive amounts of advertising for political purposes, or by owning the companies that bring people the news, powerful corporations are able to drown out the voices that disagree with them and it s all perfectly legal. This definitely deals with special interests, and what a corporation, or in this case corporations, will do to protect them. The act was passed because of the corporations giving money to members of Congress. Sure it may seem a bit manipulative, but it is totally legal under the constitution. Media corporations have been merging into fewer (and larger) entities which are better able to control the flow of information to the public. Because of their size and power, they can prevent unfavorable coverage of their activities in the media outlets they own. In 1983, 50 corporations controlled the vast majority of all news media in the U.S. In 1992, fewer than two dozen of these corporations owned and operated 90% of the mass media; controlling almost all of America s newspapers, magazines, TV and radio stations, books, records, movies, videos, wire services and photo agencies. • 43. Essay on Discrimination in The Merchant of Venice Discrimination is a resounding theme in The Merchant of Venice (Meyers). All of the characters are affected by inequality. This inequity is evidenced clearly in Shylock, the Jewish usurer. He is treated with scorn and derision by all the characters. Shylock s misfortunes stem not from poor attributes or even a poor background; it stems from the fact he is Jewish, and what is more, he is impenitent of that distinction. If he had been more daunted by Christian influence, he might have been forgiven, as Jessica is subjectively exonerated. Essay on The Tale of Genji by Murasaki Shikibu Being a student interested in the field of biology, one knows that studying life in the past plays an important role in the history of organisms that lived on this earth. Similarly, being Japanese, studying the past of how Japanese were plays an important role in Japanese history. Despite all the general aspects of life that have changed from the Heian period, the one idea that has definitely not changed is the romantic relationships between a man and woman. Though the general concept is the same, from reading The Tale of Genji, it is what was considered the ideal woman and ideal man that were both surprising and thus worth discussing. However, as To no Chujo pointed out (Shikibu 21), women that are high rank, have a lot of people that serve them and make them look better than they are so that a man cannot really know what kind of personality she may have. Middle rank women on the other hand, have less hidden about her, and so one can tell what kind of woman she is. This is probably because middle rank women do not have as much pressure to look good as high rank women have and because they are not expected to be as great. Thus in this way they are not pampered as much and in a sense show their true colors. From this it can be concluded that the ideal woman if it were possible, would be someone that was high rank, but also had a good personality that was not just made to seem good but her servants. For a woman to have a good personality is definitely an understandable character, but what constituted good personality and character? The Chief Equerry, an older man with more experience in matters with women in comparison to To no Chujo and Genji, explained that the woman s main duty is to look after her husband and the household (Shikibu 23). Thus the ideal woman would be one who was educated and smart enough to take care of the household including preparing a fresh set of clothes after her husband returns from journey, and keeping the house tidy and clean. She should not have to ask her husband for every little thing that needs to be done because that would just waste ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
