1 Cropping System
2 Cropping Pattern, Types
3 Major cropping system.
4 Classification of farmers based on the land owning.
5 Conclusion
3. INTRODUCTION -
System means a set of elements/component that are inter-related and
interacting among themselves.
The objective of any cropping system is efficient utilization of all
resources ( land, water etc), maintain stability in production and
obtaining higher profit.
4. Cropping System -
Cropping pattern and its management to derive benefit from a given resource
base under specific environmental condition.
It changes when place and environment are changed, it means cropping
system is location specific.
5. Cropping Pattern -
It is the types and arrangement of crops in time and space or yearly
sequence and spatial arrangement of crops on a given area.
Crop rotation practice by a majority of the farmer in a given area or locality.
6. Types of Cropping System -
Mono Cropping -
A system of growing the same crop on the same land year after year.
Cropping intensity is always 100%.
Multiple Cropping -
Growing of two or more crops on same field in a year.
It is the intensification of cropping in time and space dimensions.
7. Sequential Cropping -
In this system, growing of two or more crops in quick succession on the
same piece of land in a farming year.
Example – Just after the harvesting of Maize, Potato is sown and just after
digging of Potato, Chilli is sown.
8. Relay Cropping -
Growing the succeeding crop when previous crop attend its maturity
stage.
sowing of the next crop immediately after the harvest of the standing
crops.
Example – Sowing of Lathyrus before harvesting of rice.
9. SOME MAJOR CROPPING SYSTEM OF INDIA

10. Apart from different cropping system prevailing in Chhattisgarh
we have consider the economic status of the farmers.
Indian Farmers Classification
In India farmers were categorized into following categories based on
land owning status -
1. Landless farmers : No land in his or her name.
2. Marginal farmers : Less than 1 hectare land.
3. Small farmers : 1-2 hectare land.
4. Semi-medium farmers : 2-4 hectare land.
5. Medium farmers : 4-10 hectare land.
6. Large farmers : more the 10 hectare land.
11. CONCLUSION -
So the cropping systems are generally practiced but the economic condition of
farmer is to be considered for prescribing a particular cropping system for a
particular farmer of a particular area.
A best cropping system can help the farmer getting more benefit with ecological
sustainability.
So for higher productivity and higher benefit cropping system plays a crucial
role.
