Cylinders are 3D shapes with circular bases of radius r that are parallel to each other and separated by a height h. The surface area of a cylinder has three components: the area of the two circular bases, which is 2πr^2, the lateral surface area between the bases, which is 2πrh, and the total surface area, which is the sum of the other two areas, or 2πr(r+h).

 Cylinder are 3d solid shapes with congruent circular bases that lie in
parallel planes.
 The length from Point a till Point b is the height
of the cylinder.
 The bases are circular faces at the top
and bottom of cylinder and the radius
is the half line from point as shown in
the figure.

4. Surface Area of a
Cylinder.
The surface area of cylinder is sum of the areas of the
circular faces and the lateral surface .
Area of the two circular faces = π r2
Lateral surface area
=2πrh

5. Lateral surface area of
a cylinder.

In the above figure the lateral surface area is in the
shape of a rectangle with length as the circumference
of the base circle 2π r2
and the breadth as height of
the cylinder h.
So,
therefore the lateral surface area of cylinder =
2πr*h

6. Total surface area of
cylinder.
The total surface area of a cylinder is 2(area of the two
circular faces) + Area of the lateral face.
Therefore the total surface area of a cylinder =2(π r2
) + 2π r = 2π r(r+h).
