Should Have
When pasta becomes your everyday love, and you want to enjoy each bit of it, right from
preparing the dish to relishing it with your favourite drink, it's time that you buy the pasta
cooking tools. Pasta cooking tools make cooking the dish convenient and quick.
Kitchen equipment is not only required to make fresh pasta but also to cook the pasta easily
and perfectly. You must be thinking that you have sufficient tools to cook pasta, but for the
art of cooking pasta that not only satisfies your appetite but also makes you a social media
star, use pasta cooking equipment. We are enlisting some important yet common pasta tools
with their use for you to understand their role in making the dish appetising.
Stockpot – Stockpot or deep pot is an essential tool for boiling pasta. This tool is overlooked,
especially in Indian kitchens, as it is considered replaceable by any pot. A deep pot is
important as it provides the right temperature for the pasta to boil. It holds sufficient water
that does not let pasta stick together and become slimy and provides pasta stock to bring-up
the flavours of your dish.
Colander – Colander is yet another cooking tool that is imperative for making a restaurant-
like pasta dish at home. Wondering that important? Yes, colander strains hot water from pasta
instantly and maintains the texture of the pasta equally. A stockpot with colander strainer is a
good option to keep away the mess of pouring boiling pasta water.
Tongs – Use tongs over a spoon or spatula to toss the pasta. Tongs help in mixing pasta with
sauce gently and equally. It does not let pasta break, and the pasta gets covered in sauce
equally. Tongs are not only suitable for tossing pasta while cooking, but they are also useful
for plating and serving noodle pasta or spaghetti pasta.
Spider Strainer – Many would suggest picking a spider strainer rather than a colander. A
spider strainer comes handy for stirring the pasta while boiling, as well as straining the pasta
and directly putting it in the pan for mixing with the sauce. Spider spoons are good for long
pasta as they hold them well and drain water quickly.
Pasta Spoon – Pasta spoon is a must-have kitchen tool. Its shape allows stirring pasta from
edges of the pot without breaking them. They hold long pasta well, and the hole in the centre
keeps pasta dry by allowing water to drain away. This makes pasta testing for al dente easy.
The centre of the spoon is for holding small pasta, and so pasta spoon is suitable for all kinds
of pasta.
Saucepan – Be wise in selecting the saucepan for a pasta dish. A saucepan must be picked
according to the quantity and shape of pasta, as well as according to the sauce for pasta. A
small pan with a large portion of pasta will not allow easy mixing and a large saucepan with
small quantity will hold the required temperature. Long pasta is likely to cook well in a broad
pan and pasta with heavy and creamy sauces requires deep saucepan.
Ladle – Ladle is a long spoon-like kitchen tool used for stirring sauce and stock. A long
handle prevents getting burned by steam or boiling water or stock. It is suitable when using a
stockpot and stirring small pasta. It holds a good amount and comes handy for pouring stock
and sauce from pot to pan or from pan to serving dish.
Cheese Grater – Cheese is the soul of pasta and shredding cheese in the right size matters a
lot. It changes the texture and flavours of the dish. Pick a grater with multiple grating sizes
for different pasta dishes requires a different type of shredding. Parmesan requires small and
petite shredding, while for lasagne, long and thick cheese shredding will be good.
Serving Dish – Serving pasta in a bowl is a big no-no. Use a deep plate to serve pasta as it
has room for serving an appropriate quantity of sauce. A deep dish with broadsides is suitable
for serving pasta with a portion of toasted bread as a side dish or rather making it a complete
pasta meal. A flat serving plate is good for serving past with dressing or minimal gravy and
adding lots of assorted grilled vegetables to the pasta.
